BlackBerry maker Research in Motion plans to release a Mac-compatible version of its desktop software -- able to synchronize devices to iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks -- in September.
Unlike rival Apple's iPhone software, which is available for both Windows PCs and Macs, RIM's BlackBerry program could only be installed on Windows.
The Waterloo-based company said its "BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac" allows users to install new applications and games and update devices when new software becomes available, backup and restore data (with automatic scheduling and optional encryption) and manage multiple devices on one computer.
Users can also select individual calendars to sync, see how much memory is available and choose which playlists they want.
Minimum system requirements are Mac OS X 10.5.5 and above.
