Struggling carrier T-Mobile said it added a 325,000 subscribers -- only 17 percent of which were contract customers -- in the second quarter.
AT&T and Verizon have attracted valuable contract-signing customers, while Sprint and T-Mobile are competing with smaller carriers for lower-profit prepaid subscribers.T-Mobile, the nation's fourth-largest wireless carrier, said it ended the quarter with 33.5 million customers. Its revenue fell to $5.34 billion from $5.47 billion a year ago. "In 2009, we're launching the best products and services we've ever brought to market," said Robert Dotson, T-Mobile's chief executive. "In the quarter, we unveiled devices like our new T-Mobile myTouch 3G with Google." The company hopes that its newly launched MyTouch 3G will increase sales and add contract subscribers through the remainder of the year.
