Verizon plans to release the Samsung Rogue, an AMOLED widescreen handset, and the Samsung Intensity, a low-cost touch screen device, starting September 8.
The Basking Ridge, N.J.-based carrier said the Rogue features a 3.1-inch display with a widescreen aspect ratio for better video and photo viewing or more convenient Internet browsing.Its touch screen uses Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode, or AMOLED, technlogy for increased battery life and improved video and photo images. It also has a built-in 3.0-megapixel camera with flash, auto-focus and image editor and a widget bar for access to social networking sites like Facebook. The Intensity is a low-cost touch screen device with a 1.3-megapixel camera. Both handests offer a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, threaded messaging, access to Verizon's VCAST Video and Music services, stereo Bluetooth technology and a microSD expansion card slot. In June, Samsung said it plans to focus on the more profitable smartphone business -- pushing AMOLED touch screen devices like the Samsung Jet and Omnia 2. The Samsung Rouge and Intensity will be available starting September 8 for $100 and $30, respectively, with a two-year contract.
