Verizon has cut the price on some BlackBerry models to clear out inventory for the launch of the new BlackBerry Storm 2 in the coming months.
The Basking Ridge, N.J.-based carrier has aggressively dropped the price of the BlackBerry Storm -- widely considered Verizon's flagship phone and competitor to the iPhone -- from $100 to $50, the Pearl Flip from $80 to $40 and the Tour from $200 to $150.
The sale on the BlackBerry handsets clears the way for the new Storm 2, to be released around October.
While RIM has only confirmed that it is working on the Storm 2, it has not announced a release date, pricing or specs.
The Storm 2 reportedly adds Wi-Fi and has an improved SurePress typing system.
