Intel Branches Out with Mobile Software

Computer chip maker Intel said it is backing an open-source operating system for mobile devices, called Moblin, to look beyond its core business of microprocessors and into software.
Moblin, short for "Mobile Linux," has panel-based navigation to flip through running programs, widget-based social networking apps and a Firefox Fennec mobile browser.At the Intel Developer Forum, Chief Executive Paul Otellini also showed off the software that programmers can use to build application stores such as the one Apple offers on the iPhone. The company said it will let developers write applications that work on multiple platforms and different types of computers using Intel's processors.
