AT&T said it plans to integrate a modified version of Opera's Web browser, giving users three windows to surf the Internet, on four new handsets -- the Samsung Mythic and Flight, and the Pantech Reveal and Impact.
The Atlanta, Ga.-based carrier said the new handsets can view the Web and bookmark sites from the homepage. A second window gives users information from nearby points of interest, maps, driving directions and traffic alerts. The third window delivers headlines from popular news, sports and entertainment sites.
"The new browser brings the best of the open Web," said Ted Woodbery, AT&T's vice president. "It's a rich hybrid experience that delivering local tools and bookmarking management."
The Samsung Mythic features a 3.3-inch touch screen display and AT&T's Mobile TV service. It also runs on Samsung's TouchWiz for quick access to applications like Facebook and Twitter.
The Flight has a textured design with ridges on the back for one-handed touch screen use. It slides open to reveal a QWERTY keyboard for texting.
Both the Samsung devices will be available in November.
AT&T also said the Pantech Reveal has an open-faced numeric keypad that slides up to reveal a keyboard. Both sets of keys stay active, giving users fast access to numbers and letters at the same time.
The Impact features an OLED touch screen that lets users send text messages, make calls and control their music without having to open the phone. Its screen has haptic controls that give a soft, tactile buzz each time a key is pressed. And a keyboard and second display screen slides out for a fuller typing experience.
AT&T said the Pantech Reveal will hit store shelves on October 18 but did not mention details of the Impact.
