AT&T is suing LG, Samsung and other major makers of LCD screens for cell phones, alleging they colluded to raise the prices it paid for 300 million handsets.
The Dallas, Texas-based company filed the suit in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, alleging a "long-running conspiracy" between 1996 to 2006, to fix, raise, stabilize and maintain the prices of LCD panels.AT&T said it purchased more than 300 million handsets for resale during the conspiracy period. Hitachi Displays, LG Display, Sharp, and Chunghwa Picture Tubes, all of whom were named in the suit, have already pleaded guilty to U.S. charges of illegal price-fixing, agreeing to pay $585 million in criminal fines.
