T-Mobile today resumed Sidekick sales, a month after a server meltdown at Microsoft caused personal information to disappear from many of the phones.
The Bellevue, Wash.-based carrier also dropped the price on the handsets -- for instance, the top-of-the-line Sidekick LX is now $150, down from $175.Unlike most devices, Sidekicks can lose personal data when the batteries run down. As a backup, information stored on Microsoft's servers can be wirelessly retrieved. But when servers went down last month, users that ran down their batteries lost all personal data -- including contact numbers, pictures, email and other personal information. Microsoft managed to restore most of the missing data and T-Mobile provided $100 gift cards to affected customers. Microsoft took over Sidekick services when it acquired Danger, its handset maker, early last year.
