Verizon is the best in customer support, voice and data service but tends to be costly, while Sprint and AT&T ranked the lowest, according to a survey to appear in the January issue of Consumer Reports.
The consumer advocacy group said Verizon was the better choice in most consumers in the 26 cities it surveyed, but that one in five customers cited high cost as their top complaint.T-Mobile came in second in overall satisfaction and was considered a "good value" for some users. However, the carrier took low marks in voice, messaging, Web and email services. Sprint and AT&T tied for last. Sprint received low marks for customer service, while AT&T main weakness was voice. They both scored below average in every attribute except Web and texting. "America is in love with the cell phone, but they are lukewarm about cell phone service," said Paul Reynolds, an editor at Consumer Reports. "They're especially concerned about its cost in these tight economic times." Yet the magazine said 98 percent of iPhone users were satisfied enough that they would stick with AT&T, despite the carrier's below-par ratings.
