Verizon said it will release a Google Android update for the Motorola Droid -- to improve the camera's auto-focus feature and the phone's voice reception quality -- in the coming weeks.
The Basking Ridge, N.J.-based carrier said the Android 2.0.1 update offers new features such as multiple email accounts, shortcuts, an improved virtual keyboard, browser bookmarks with thumbnails and double-tap zoom. The company said the "minor platform release" and will be automatically pushed to users within the month. The Droid, featuring a touch screen and slide-out keyboard, is seen by many analysts as Motorola's last hope to revive sagging sales and its answer to the popular iPhone from Apple.
