AT&T plans to sell four inexpensive messaging phones -- the Strive and Sunburst from Samsung and the Link and Pursuit from Pantech -- that has new online services to handle tasks associated with higher-price smartphones.
The Dallas, Texas-based carrier is rolling out new "cloud-based" services to enhance messaging, video and photo sharing, including a new group messaging feature, "AT&T Mobile Share" to transfer photos and videos with social networking sites and "AT&T Address Book" to sync contacts to an online address book. The company said the first phones to support these new services will be the Strive, a handset with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and Sunburst, a touch screen phone with "widgets" to customize shortcut, both from Samsung and the Link, a super-slim and light phone with a keyboard, and the Pursuit, a touch screen slider, both from Pantech. AT&T said it will begin selling the Strive for $20 and Sunburst for $40 both with a two-year service contract starting March 21. The Pantech Link and Pursuit will be available in the coming weeks.
