HTC HD2

The Bellevue, Wash.-based carrier said the HD2 features a high-resolution 4.3-inch capacitive touch screen display with access to millions of eBooks, movies, television programs and more.

It is powered by Qualcomm's new 1GHz Snapdragon mobile processor for improved application speeds and runs Windows Mobile 6.5 software with access to Internet Explore Mobile browser with Flash support, "MyPhone" backup service and access to applications and games through Windows Marketplace for Mobile.

Additionally, the handset comes with a 5.0-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi and access to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Despite the growing enthusiasm surrounding Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 software, the company didn't give a projection of when, or if, the HD2 will be able to be upgraded to the new operating system when it is released later this year.

"We don't know when the first Windows Mobile 7 device is coming out," said Jon Eliav, a T-Mobile spokesman.

In recent years, the T-Mobile has been suffering from perceptions that its data network is inferior to those of rivals AT&T and Verizon. Hoping to reverse subscriber loss, the operator has been building out its new 4G network to compete for higher-paying smartphone buyers.

T-Mobile said the HTC HD2 will be available in stores starting March 24 and cost $200 with a two-year contract.
