HTC to Fight Apple Suit

"HTC strongly disagrees with Apple's actions," said Jason Mackenzie, HTC's vice president of U.S. business. "We plan to use all the legal tools we have at our disposal to both defend ourselves and set the record straight."Early this month, Apple accused HTC's devices, including the Nexus One, of infringing on 20 of its patents covering technology such as the iPhone's user interface, internal architecture and hardware. While the suit didn't name Google as a defendant, whose software powers several smartphones made by HTC, the case is seen by many analysts as an attack by proxy on the Internet giant and the latest outburst in an increasingly tense relationship between the two Silicon Valley juggernauts. Google and Apple are on a collision course as they both expand in the smartphone market. Earlier this week, Google released new versions of the Nexus One that runs on the 3G networks of AT&T and Sprint. A version for Verizon is also in the works. HTC wouldn't say what, or if, support would provided by the Internet search giant. A Google spokeswoman said the company was "proud" of all its Android partners, but wouldn't comment specifically on the case.
