Apple said the white version of its new iPhone 4 won't be available until the second half of July, as the company struggles with high consumer demand and unexpected challenges with manufacturing.
"White models of the new iPhone 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected," Apple said in a statement. The Cupertino, Calif.-based company did not specify what problems it encountered, but said the availability of the black models wouldn't be affected.Apple said it is still on track to ship the device to customers who preordered their iPhone 4 on June 15. The announcement comes just a day after AT&T said it would delay iPhone sales in its stores until June 29, five days after the official launch date. After taking over 600,000 preorders of the new iPhone in just one day, Apple and AT&T halted advanced reservations amid overwhelming demand and shortages in components. The iPhone 4 is thinner with a higher-resolution screen and longer battery life. It features a new operating system that can run more than one program at once.
