Verizon plans to launch the Samsung Haven, a budget-friendly phone designed for the elderly, on July 29 for $40 with a two-year contract.
The Basking Ridge, N.J.-based carrier said the Haven has features a slim design with a large, easy-to-read 2.2-inch display with adjustable font size and a menu readout function for improved accessibility. It also has dedicated keys for Emergency 911 and "In Case of Emergency," which users can program with up to three contacts that first responders can easily find in the event of an emergency. In addition, the Haven has tools to keep people healthy, including a fitness trainer that gives stretching techniques, music to help relieve stress, and an application that stores medical information such as allergies and medications. Verizon today reported a loss for the April-June quarter as a result of a buyout and voluntary departure of 11,000 employees.
