Apple is investigating reports that its latest mobile operating system, iOS 4, causes problems for iPhone 3G owners, after receiving numerous complaints on its support forums and technology blogs.
There have been many users who say that the new mobile operating system makes the 3G "nearly unusable" -- running excessively hot with a significantly shorter battery life, amid a myriad of glitches such as frozen screens and slow response times.
"This phone has gone from being a dream to constantly annoying me," wrote an owner on Apple's support forums. "I would upgrade to an iPhone 4, but I'm feeling pretty angry that Apple has forced my hand by making my 3G unusable."
When the Cupertino, Calif.-based company introduced iOS 4 in mid-June, coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 4, it promised of a more powerful and stable operating system.
Apple, which has been answering mounting criticism over problems with the antenna on the iPhone 4, has yet to respond to the problems. Last week, it said it will give free protective covers, or bumpers, to buyers of the iPhone 4, in an attempt to alleviate reception problems caused by its wraparound antenna.
