A British woman has shattered the world record for typing the world's fastest text message, beating the previous record by almost 10 seconds with a Samsung Galaxy S smartphone.
Melissa Thompson texted ''the razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human'' in 25.94 seconds.
The current official Guinness World Record holder, Franklin Page, wrote the same sentence in 35.54 seconds in March.
Thompson was out shopping with her boyfriend, Chris Davies, when they visited a Samsung roadshow. The company then invited her to take a chance at breaking the world record.
''I used to send a lot of text messages -- 40 or 50-a-day -- to Chris alone so we both knew I could type fast," said Thompson. ''But since we moved in together and I started my job I haven't been texting as much and, you could say, my fingers were out of shape. It's a real shock to find out that I'm the fastest texter in the world."
The Salford, England-based insurance company worker achieved her feat with the help of Samsung's new Galaxy S. The handset's "Swype" key pad enables users to type text messages without their finger leaving the screen.
Thompson's record is awaiting official confirmation by the Guinness Book of World Records.
