Apple Plans Music-Themed Event

Apple is holding a music-themed event next Wednesday, prompting speculation that the company may unveil a snazzier line of iPods or revamp its long-neglected Apple TV project.
The Cupertino, Calif.-based company sent email invitations -- featuring an acoustic guitar with an Apple logo-shaped sound hole -- to journalists for the San Francisco-based event.
Apple has traditionally held events in September to showcase its new iPod products and analysts are expecting a new digital music player, possibly with dual cameras for "FaceTime" video chat, first introduced on the iPhone 4.
The press conference also comes as Apple nears closing deals with major broadcast companies, such as ABC, NBC and Fox, which would offer video rentals of television shows for as little as 99 cents through iTunes. Apple is also reportedly working on a new media hub, to reinvigorate its Apple TV, that will simplify streaming to televisions.
