Google has bought game developer SocialDeck, making it the fifth social-networking acquisition for the search engine giant since the beginning of August.
SocialDeck, which announced the deal on its website, creates games that users can play with friends using mobile devices or Facebook. Its technology allows gamers on different mobile devices to play together at the same time.
"The company has launched several titles for the iPhone, Facebook and BlackBerry," the company said.
SocialDeck is just one of a slate of recent gaming and social-networking acquisitions for Google.
Recently, Google acquired Angstro, whose software enables the "ability to home in on highly focused, relevant news across professional networks," and Slide, developer of social-networking software.
These buyouts, along with the recent purchase of SocialDeck, has fueled speculation that Google is building a new gaming-centered social-networking service to compete with Facebook.
