BlackBerry is going high-speed as Cingular Wireless and Research In Motion (RIM) today introduced the BlackBerry 8700c, the first BlackBerry device to support high-speed EDGE network technology. Samsung today announced the availability of the multi-functional designed SGH-d307, which features a swivel display that morphs the clamshell phone into a virtual mini-laptop. Cingular Wireless today announced the availability of two enhanced services: Mobile Email and Mobile IM. Now, for the first time in the US market, Cingular customers can gain access to their existing email or IM accounts from AOL, MSN and Yahoo! through a set of simple, easy to use applications which can be accessed through a standard mass market phone.

The United States Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts has granted an injunction against Boston Communication Group, Inc. (BCGI) and Cingular Wireless, forbidding them from continuing to sell prepaid wireless services of the type that were found to be covered by Freedom Wireless' patents. Lucent Technologies and Ericsson today announced that it has completed upgrades of Cingular Wireless' third-generation UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) networks in Seattle, Phoenix, and Dallas/Fort Worth to support HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology. Cingular is now using the HSDPA networks to provide simultaneous voice and mobile high-speed data service for customers currently subscribed to its UMTS service in those markets.

HP and Cingular Wireless today announced the HP iPAQ hw6500 series Mobile Messenger, the first Pocket PCs in the United States to use Cingular's high-speed EDGE network.
Beginning on Oct. 31, Cingular will be the sole U.S. carrier for this sleek smart device, which delivers wireless email and an array of applications that offer users access to the digital content and services they need for truly effective global communication and mobile productivity.
The HP iPAQ hw6500 series is the first generally available Cingular-enabled device to have an integrated global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver. Cingular will sell two versions of the Mobile Messenger, the hw6515 featuring a 1.3-megapixel camera and the hw6510, which will come without a camera. The HP iPAQ hw6500 series also boasts a unique combination of digital wireless voice and data capabilities, including access to Cingular's nationwide EDGE network, built-in keyboard, and Bluetooth wireless technology.
Cingular's EDGE network is the largest and fastest national wireless data network in the United States, with availability in 13,000 cities and towns and along more than 40,000 miles of interstate highways.

Cingular Wireless and Nokia today introduced to the U.S. marketplace the EDGE-powered Nokia 9300 business device with BlackBerry Connect. Cingular is the first U.S. carrier to launch the popular BlackBerry wireless services on a third-party handset via the BlackBerry Connect licensing program from Research In Motion (RIM). RealNetworks today unveiled its Helix OnlineTV application for mobile and broadband providers and announced that Cingular has named Real as its end-to-end solution provider for the development and delivery of the carrier's next generation video service.
