Nokia Launches Internet High-Speed Packet Access

Today at CTIA Wireless 2005, Nokia launched the Nokia Internet High Speed Packet Access (I-HSPA) solution, a network innovation enabling higher performance and more cost-efficient broadband wireless access. Nokia I-HSPA, based on existing WCDMA, is specifically designed for high-volume packet data use cases and complements fully mobile 3G.

Amid poor sales and increasing competition from rivals Sony and Nintendo, Nokia is continuing to work on new designs for its N-Gage video gaming cell phone. Cutting prices to spur sales growth in the US, the company has suffered slow sales amid strong criticism from the gaming community.


Nokia Brings Live TV To Phones

Today, test users are able to view real-time TV and radio programs on a Nokia 7710 smartphone equipped with a special accessory to receive mobile TV broadcasts. The Nokia smartphone also enables direct links to the Internet for access to background information on TV programs or sports results. Test users have access to MTV, YLE and Nelonen programs as well as international theme channels such as CNN, BBC World, Euronews, Eurosport, ViVa Plus and Fashion TV. The pilot continues until 20 June 2005.

This makes Volkswagen the first automaker to offer its customers a factory-fitted automotive communication solution that supports the Bluetooth SIM Access Profile. The handset integration product provides compatibility with a wide range of mobile phones from various manufacturers. A mobile phone holder is also offered as an option for users who wish to charge their phone in the car.

Nokia today unveiled three new mobile phones, further strengthening its portfolio of mid-range feature rich, voice-centric handsets. The highlight of this announcement is the Nokia 6230i camera phone, which adds a megapixel camera and push to talk functionality to the highly popular Nokia 6230. The Nokia 6230i and the Nokia 6021 are expected to start shipping in the second quarter and the Nokia 6030 in the third quarter of 2005.

Featuring a classic design accented by bright stainless steel trim, a 1.3-megapixel image sensor, a color screen displaying over 262,000 colors, integrated LED flash and Nokia's exclusive XpressPrint printing solution, the Nokia 6682 imaging smartphone is among the most advanced imaging phones for the Americas market. Besides high-quality photography, the Nokia 6682 imaging smartphone supports a wide range of productivity tools, such as always-on e-mail delivered over high-speed EDGE networks, office document viewers, upgraded synchronization for PC users, and the optional Nokia Wireless Keyboard. The Nokia 6682 imaging smartphone, designed for the Americas market, is expected to be available during the 2nd quarter of 2005.

Designed for ease-of-use, the active slide covering the back camera of the Nokia 6680 provides fast and intuitive camera activation as well as effortless switching between cameras during a video call.

At the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, Nokia today introduced the Nokia 6681 imaging smartphone, an elegant and versatile productivity and entertainment tool featuring an organizer, a 1.3-megapixel camera, a full Internet browser, a music player and easy printing with the Nokia XpressPrint solution. The tri-band phone for GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 and EDGE markets provides an enhanced mobile user experience. The Nokia 6681 imaging smartphone is expected to be available in April 2005 with an estimated, unsubsidized sales price of approximately 450 euros.
