Nokia today said it will buy Enpocket, a U.S.-based mobile advertising company, in a bid to expand its role in Internet services. Nokia plans to leverage Enpocket's platform and partnerships with advertisers, publishers and operators, in addition to gaining a team with strong expertise in global mobile advertising.

Nokia said it and several other industry heavyweights support the creation of a common flash storage technology that removes the need for adaptors to accommodate different removable memory card sizes.
Nokia said Micron, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Spansion, STMicroelectronics, and Texas Instruments all support the new specification, dubbed Universal Flash Storage, or UFS.

AT&T today announced the availability of the Nokia 6555, a new handset engineered to take advantage of AT&T's high speed 3G network. Nokia said today its Nokia Maps application has been updated with an improved user interface and search functions, and a faster map download. The Nokia Maps service offers maps and routing in more than 150 countries, and is the handset maker's first step into potentially lucrative real-time positioning services, which it sees as crucial for its core business.

Nokia today warned that up to 46 million batteries used in some of its cell phones could be faulty and pose a risk of overheating.
The advisory applies to batteries manufactured by Matsushita from December 2005 to November 2006, the world's largest mobile phone maker said. Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. of Japan is one of several suppliers that have together made some 300 million BL-5C batteries.

Nokia today announced plans to outsource development of third-generation (3G) chips to STMicroelectronics and license out its modem technology, widening its supplier base and opening up the market. The world's top cell phone maker said STMicro would design and build 3G chips based on Nokia technologies for Nokia and other customers, freeing up research and development resources for other areas.
