Though consumers aren't wildly enthusiastic about mobile advertising, about 20% of wireless phone users in a recent survey would find some form of advertising on their mobile handsets to be acceptable, reports In-Stat. Of that group, roughly half were open to having advertisers subsidize the cost of premium services such as directory assistance, ringtones and messaging, the high-tech market research firm says. Bang & Olufsen and Samsung Electronics have announced that they have teamed up to develop a new mobile phone concept. The intention is to create a truly unique product, which breaks with conventional assumptions and expectations to offer users a new mobile experience.

Mobile phones could one day have the memory capacity of a desktop computer thanks to a microchip that mimics the functioning of the brain, scientists report today (9 September) in the journal Science.

Samsung Electronics announced that it has developed a 7.2 Megapixel CMOS image sensor (CIS). It is the world's first 7.2M-pixel CIS for compact cameras with the smallest pixel size. Motorola announced today that it has acquired from Melco Mobile Communication Europe (MMCE), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, a European team of i-mode design employees and a research center in western France. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
