With the recent popularity of the iPod and iTunes service, Motorola looked to Apple when designing a music phone. Planned to be released exclusively through Cingular Wireless, the new ROKR E1 features software that allows it to play songs purchased at Apple's iTunes website.
Suffering several setbacks with no concrete evidence it would ever come to market; service providers initially refused to carry it, afraid Apple would reap the benefits of music purchases at their expense.

Overall satisfaction performance with wireless service providers has decreased 10 percent over 2004, the biggest year-over-year change since the study's inception, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2005 U.S. Wireless Regional Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) Study(SM) released today.

Sprint Nextel today announced it has implemented a pricing and billing relief plan for customers directly impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
Sprint Nextel will automatically issue credits for monthly service for its wireless customers in the areas hardest hit by the hurricane. In addition, wireless customers in the affected areas will receive free long distance calling, roaming and text messaging and overage charges will not be applied.

Motorola and Apple today announced the availability of the world's first mobile phone with iTunes, enabling music lovers to transfer up to 100 of their favorite songs from the iTunes jukebox on their Mac or PC to their mobile phone. Vodafone launched a solar charger for mobile phones enabling users to recharge batteries anywhere where the sun is shining. As market leader, Apple prepares to upgrade its iPod products and launch Motorola's ROKR iTunes phone. A national study of 1,062 Americans finds that the average digital music player contains 375 songs.
