Samsung Electronics today announced that it is sampling Gigabyte (GB) MultiMediaCards (MMCs) with customers: 1GB and 2GB MMC plus cards, and the industry's first 1GB MMC mobile card. The higher densities and faster speeds of Samsung's Version 4.1 memory cards will allow consumers to gain higher performance from advanced mobile consumer devices, such as mobile phones, digital still cameras (DSCs), PDAs, MP3 music players and PMPs (portable multimedia players).

The number of aggregate digital images captured per month continued to grow another 18 points in 2005, largely driven through cheaper flash memory card prices and increased capacities, IDC found in a new study of U.S. digital camera owners' usage habits. As a result, the total number of average monthly prints is expected to increase by 29% in 2005. However, printing behavior is changing with home printing continuing to decline in favor of retail locations.

The CDMA Development Group (CDG) reported today that the number of CDMA2000 (3G) subscribers grew by 17 million in Q2 2005 to reach 185.6 million worldwide. In the first six months of 2005, CDMA2000 added more than 39 million new users and 73 million since June 2004. Yankee Group today revealed the results of the 2005 European Mobile User Survey. The results show that price has established itself as the number-one criteria for selecting a mobile service provider. However, advanced mobile data services are becoming more popular and will ultimately drive market leadership. Young people spark data adoption rates with more than one-third of 18 to 24 year olds spending 5 euros or more per month on data services.

Worldwide mobile phone sales totaled 190.5 million units in the second quarter of 2005, a 21.6 percent growth from the same period last year, according to Gartner, Inc.
