Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Ken Kutaragi has revealed plans of creating an accessory attachment to give cell phone and wireless functionality to its PlayStation Portable gaming system.
Stating plans for the adaptor were "in the near future," this development comes at no surprise. Largely speculated when Sony filed patent applications, the announcement confirms rumors that wireless add-ons were in planning.

Results from a University of York study showed using hands-free headsets reduce cell phone radiation by as much as 47%. The study, part of the UK's Mobile Telecommunications Health Research program, concluded that radiation was cut by nearly half when using a wired hands-free kit running up from the torso, rather than directly talking on a phone against the head.

Since Siemens announced it plans to abandon the cell phone market, it has been accepting offers from rivals companies to sell off its mobile phone division. Perhaps the most interested may be Korean manufacturer LG Electronics; however there have been conflicting reports.
Initially German news source, WirtschaftsWoche, reported LG and Siemens were in ongoing negotiations regarding the sell off of Siemens' sluggish division. However LG released a response stating:

Today, Motorola announced it beat expectations and rode strong fourth quarter sales to regain the No. 2 position from Samsung. Spearheaded by the RAZR V3, Motorola released a massive 20 phone portfolio resulting in a 34% increase in fourth-quarter profits; solidifying its position behind Nokia.

Plastic may be a thing of the past as handset manufacturers begin integrating computer chips into phones; storing account information necessary to make purchases similar to credit cards.
Already in use in Asia, North American trials are being held in an attempt to bring the technology across the Pacific. Advocates believe consumers will welcome the technology; making small purchases less bothersome.

After cutting 5,000 jobs, Siemens Mobile is prepared to leave the phone industry due to struggling profits and the increasingly competitive marketplace. Being the fourth largest phone manufacturer with 7.6% market share, Siemens is looking for a joint partner, much the Sony Ericsson agreement, to save its struggling division rather than abandon it completely.

It was only a matter of time before Asia's two most celebrated pop culture icons were combined; the cell phone and Hello Kitty. Motorola may have gotten an early Christmas present from rival cell phone manufacturer, Samsung. The Korean manufacturer reported that its fourth quarter profits were lower than expected, hurt by the recent price war with Finnish rival Nokia.
