Verizon Wireless and Qwest Communications today announced they have completed the transaction, previously announced in July 2004, for Verizon Wireless to purchase Qwest Wireless' spectrum licenses and certain network assets for $418 million. These licenses will increase Verizon Wireless' capacity in key existing markets as well as expand the company's network into new markets.

Motorola announced that Gartner Inc. affirmed the company's position as the world's second-largest handset manufacturer. The company commented following the release of Gartner's 2004 Market Share Report. The report estimates Motorola's fourth quarter 2004 global market share to be 16.3% based on sales to end users.

Internet portal, Yahoo, has announced today the launch if its studio to develop video games for mobile devices. Taking on the $20 billion industry, it hopes to develop games for Verizon Wireless, and expand to other carriers. Acquiring Stadeon, Yahoo plans to create multiplayer games such as chess and poker, allowing consumers to play online against each other through their phones.

Sprint and Sierra Wireless today announced that the Sprint PCS Connection Card by Sierra Wireless (AirCard 580) is now available for sale through Sprint business sales channels. Designed to operate on CDMA 1xEV-DO (Evolution, Data Optimized) and 1xRTT networks, the AirCard 580 by Sierra Wireless will support broadband-like speeds when Sprint launches EV-DO service later this year and is backwards compatible to 1xRTT speeds in areas where Sprint EV-DO coverage is not available.
