The prevalence of mobile phone theft and other forms of mobile phone crime has become a widespread problem, according to a new survey conducted by Juniper Research, with 70 percent of young consumers surveyed associated in some way with a victim of mobile theft.
The findings support those by Halifax Home Insurance who claim that on average, one mobile phone is stolen in the UK alone every 12 seconds. Research In Motion (RIM) and Yahoo announced a parntership to offer search, e-mail, instant messaging, and news on BlackBerry devices.
Yahoo! Go for Mobile will integrate a full range of Yahoo!'s leading products into a single, comprehensive experience for BlackBerry users. From the Yahoo! Go for Mobile icon, BlackBerry users will have access to Yahoo! services, including real-time access to Yahoo!'s community, information and content services.
BlackBerry users will also be able to get real-time delivery of email sent to their Yahoo! Mail accounts. Enhanced wireless synchronization of sent and deleted items as well as read/unread message status provide users with more flexibility to manage their email accounts while on the go. Future development plans will also allow Yahoo! users to wirelessly import, modify and synchronize their Yahoo! Address Book and Yahoo! Calendar entries using their BlackBerry devices.

Research In Motion Limited (RIM) and NTP today announced they have settled the long-running patent dispute, averting a possible court-ordered shutdown of the BlackBerry system and a disruption of wireless service for millions of users.
RIM agreed to pay $612.5 million to resolve claims that its hand-held phone and e-mail device infringed on patents held by a Virginia company.

Judge James Spencer today said he would not impose an immediate injunction against Research In Motion (RIM), maker of the BlackBerry. RIM received a copy of a Final Office Action issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in the reexamination of NTP, Inc. Patent #5,436,960. This Final Office Action maintains the outright and complete rejection of all claims in the patent.

Research In Motion (RIM) today developed and tested software workaround designs for all BlackBerry handsets operating on converged voice/data networks in the United States. Today a federal judge ruled invalid a $450 million settlement between NTP, a small patent holding firm, and the maker of BlackBerry email devices, Research in Motion (RIM). The District Court ruled that the Term Sheet entered between the parties in March 2005 to settle the litigation was not an enforceable agreement.
