Sprint today announced its voice-dialing service, Sprint PCS Voice Command, is available for free to customers who are blind, visually impaired or physically disabled. The free service, which allows calls to be dialed by speaking the desired contact or phone number, also includes 10 free directory assistance calls per month. Sprint PCS Voice Command is currently available to Sprint customers for $5 a month.

Sprint has entered into an agreement with Motorola to conduct joint wireless broadband technology testing and equipment trials in 2005 and 2006 to help substantiate next generation wireless network infrastructure requirements and consumer products for future wireless interactive multi-media services.

Sprint and Nextel today announced details surrounding the brand strategy and logo to be used upon completion of the companies' merger, expected in the third quarter of 2005, pending shareholder and regulatory approvals. The new go-to-market brand name of the combined Sprint Nextel will be Sprint, with the Nextel name continuing as a key product brand.

palmOne adds Bluetooth Dial-Up Networking, support for more Bluetooth car kits and other enhancements to the Sprint PCS Treo 650. Through the Updater software on the Treo 650, the permanent (ROM) software will be upgraded. Available from the palmOne support pages, the upgrade takes approximately 30 minutes.

Sprint and Novatel Wireless today announced availability of the Sprint PCS Connection Card by Novatel Wireless (Merlin S620). Designed to operate on CDMA 1xEV-DO (Evolution, Data Optimized) and 1xRTT networks, the card will support broadband-like speeds when Sprint EV-DO coverage is available later this year and is backwards compatible to provide 1xRTT throughput speeds in Sprint coverage areas where EV-DO service is not yet available.

Sprint PCS is planning a roll-out the first phase of its wireless high-speed data services beginning mid-2005, up to ten times faster than current wireless speeds using the technology of EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized). By year-end Sprint Wireless High-Speed Data service will be available to more than 130 million people. And by early 2006, when the national build-out is complete, EV-DO will be available in approximately 60 metropolitan areas, encompassing more than 200 strategic urban and suburban markets - covering approximately 150 million customers.
