Verizon Wireless today launched a wireless service that lets parents check their children's whereabouts. Based on Global Positioning System (GPS) data, the Chaperone service also lets parents set up geographic limits and receive text alerts if their children, who also carry phones, go too far from home.

Verizon Wireless today launched their foreign language applications for Get It Now-enabled wireless phones, allowing travelers to brush up on their Spanish, French, Japanese, or German.
Customers can easily access SkyZone's Merriam-Webster Spanish-English Dictionary to search for more than 100,000 translations and 80,000 entry words and phrases in both languages. Costing a $3.49 monthly access, users can beef up their vocabulary every time they open their mobile phone.

Verizon Communications has informally approached Vodafone Group to purchase the company's 45 percent stake in Verizon Wireless. Under pressure amid AT&T's buyout of BellSouth for complete control of Cingular, Verizon has offered $40 billion to acquire the remaining shares.
