The Kyocera Koi (KX2) has a unique swivel form factor makes it stand out in a crowd and offers easy one-button operation of the camera, which can be used with the phone swiveled open or closed. Rotated closed, the Koi looks and feels like an actual digital camera, making it easier to use than flip phones for snapping pictures or recording video. The 1.2 megapixel camera phone also features a built-in flash and 5X digital zoom to expand picture-taking options, MPEG-4 video record and playback, and 16 megabytes of onboard memory for storing high and low resolution images.

Preface: First let me say that I didn't get my phone yesterday. I've used the phone for 2 weeks now and feel I've gotten a good feel for the KX2. Also, I've been using kyocera phones for the last 4 years by default! Company issued them to me! I furthermore will not insult your intellegence, you can make comparisons and read the info that this site provides you with ( I highly recommed you do that too!). So I will focus on what this site and other sites might not be telling you!
OK - I drive 40 - 60,000 miles a year. I needed a phone that would give me the "safest" possible features to operate a phone while driving. After throughly reading text manuels and making several calls to manufactures here is how I made my decision.
PROS:
1) Kyocera uses a command called the "wake-up" function. This command allowes me to make an outgoing call without taking my hands off the stearing wheel or my eyes off the road. I simply say, "wake-up" twice and the name of the person I'm calling from my contacts list. So far this has worked flawlessly. LG was far more complex in speaking commands and it required the use of one hand to open or touch the phone. This is what iced the deal for kyocera.
2) Kyocera has made some great strides to make their phone more user friendly. With the phone closed, I can do almost anything I need by using the outside button.
3) Assinging ring tones. I can now know who is calling from the different rings tones that I assign in my contacts list. I have a one ringtone dedicated to business calls, one for family calls, one for friends and one for people that I really don't wanna talk to at any given time (sounds rude, but as a business man its a feature that I've come to appreciate!)
4) Customizing: The KX2 can be set up to fit your personal lifestyle. This is a option that is cannot be emphisized enough. What I like and need in a phone might be something totally different than you. However, that is probably not going to be a problem with the different options that this phone can be setup to perform. Just take a moment and set it up the way you want!
5) Battery life and reception are adequate. Could be better, but could also be a lot worse. So far I really have no complaints.
CONS:
1) The keyocera phone only has 200 contacts available and only 40 of them can be used as a "voice dial". This must be increased to compete with LG or Motorola who offer 500.
2) No blue-toothe, games or MP3 abilities. I personnally don't want games or MP3 on my phone(for that fact, I really didn't even want a camera). However, LG and motorola do have them and at the same price I paid for my KX2. Once again, to stay competitive in the market kyocera is gonna gave to start including some other stuff. I also feel that blue-toothe is probably going to become a "must have" for cell phone users/drivers in the future. However, would you please tell big V that one!
3) The rubber insert for the hands free kit is sure to wear out after a year or so. I believe that kyorcera needs to "rethink" that cover.
4) The rest of my complaints of the phone are personal - basically like I said in the title. "This is not a pretty phone" However, that is a call you'll have to make for yourself. Personnally, I'd rather have an ugly phone that is extremely useful than a "pretty" phone that doesn't work!
Conclusion:
Kyocera is the best business phone on the market. you aren't getting games or MP3s for entertainment, the phone isn't going to be on the top ten "sexy" lists, and it does have some areas that need to be shored up to compete in todays market. But, it has the best hands free options of all phones on the market. Also, I found other quirks in the other phones as I talked to users of Motorola phones and LG phones. On a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being the best) I'd give this phone a definate 9.

-miniphotshop option after you've taken pictures
-HUGE well lit screen
-hi-res. camera
-most features accesible even when phone is closed
-optional scroll bar key used to scroll through lists, options, pic, etc. rather than up,down, left, right keys
-when closed, phone can be held sideways during camera use, immitating a real digital camera
-voice memo can record for up to 3 minutes (enough to record a song)
-brigh flash from camera
-clear video recorder
-INCREDIBLE voice recognition
-simple contacts menu
-8 beautiful color themes
-nice default ringtones if u cant/dont want to buy your own
cons
-swivel awkward to open with one hand
-you can only alter a photo after you've taken the picture
-huge front screen=accident waiting to happen (i'm waiting to shatter my screen)
-battery life SUCKS for amount of time i'm on the phone
-camera is phenominal in well lit places but not so good in not so well lit places
-video only records 15 seconds

Pros: This phone is extremely easy to use and set up. It has a big, bright, sharp display. The phonebook is more clear for multiple records for one contact than any phone I've had before, and the voice dial works really well if you record the names in your own voice. It also has some great accessories available from the Kyocera online store. One I particularly like is the hands-free/charger kit that can be used in different cars. The speaker can be heard very well, but use the clip on microphone rather than the "global" one. Road noise interfers too much. Another thing I like is that you can set the phone up to always be lit when it's charging. This is great for use with the car kit. The camera is decent, and having a flash is a big plus.
Cons: I prefer a flip phone to the swivel. The leather case doesn't fit as snug on a swivel. This phone is only available at Verizon right now, and I'd like to change carriers. The data cable/software is simplistic compared to Motorola's. It does the job, but it doesn't do it with much flair. Be sure to buy the official cable/software. I've read reports of problems with generic brands. Though Kyocera installs games on the phone, Verizon deletes them making you buy the games with Get it Now. I'd like to be able to make the ring louder, because I don't wear my phone. Voice commands don't work right with the mobile car kit.
Overall, you can't go wrong with this phone. It's not perfect, but in my opinion, it's the best phone on the market right now in its class.
