With the push of a button, the Kyocera KX440 (KX444) becomes a walkie-talkie. It's just as easy to speak with more than one person at a time using the group call feature. And to be sure communication flows, the color display has on-screen icons that let you know your co-worlds are available to talk. Designed with a rugged rubber side grips and keypad, the KX4400 is perfect for the outdoors, providing long battery times with the 1300 mah Li-Ion high-capacity battery.

I've owned quite a few phones - starting with the luggables. Most recently a Motorola v400 (see review) and this one.
The key to excellent cell phone service is a good service AND a good phone. Finally I have both.
PROs:
-Excellent battery life - easily 5 hours talking and 2-3 days standby before the battery bar starts to drop. I'm bad and usually recharge before it gives out, but once a month I let it shut down before I recharge it.
-Incredible signal - never drops, almost always 4 or 5 bars, and keeps the connection even at 1 bar.
-Easy-to-use menus: doesn't require a thorough review of a manual.
-Speaker is excellent and LOUD. Don't turn the volume to 9, or you'll go deaf. In fact, I can hear this phone while my motorcycle is running!
-Buttons are small, but easy to push, even with gloves on. They have a definite 'depress' and 'click' feel, unlike most film-panel keypads.
- Extremely rugged: I dropped the phone down a mountain next to a waterfall, brushed it off, and it worked fine.
- Water tolerant: See above. You don't wanna know. Dried it and it worked!
CONs:
Only one programmable button. I'd prefer two.
Buttons push almost too easily - you'll want the keyguard on when not using the phone.
No toys - if you want the camera, PIM, mpegs, games, etc., go elsewhere.
Errata:
This is a push-to-talk phone. It works like Nextel in that mode. However, you must set up your push-to-talk colleagues from the Internet on the verizon wireless webpage, and of course, they must also have a PTT phone. There is a fee for PTT service, but I find it is worth the convenience with my wife and children (we all have KX444s).
Summary:
If you want a great cell phone, this is it. If you are looking for a toy that doubles as a cell phone, go elsewhere.
