Perhaps good as a basic phone.

Reviewer: jredmon on Mon Jul 18, 2005

I have this phone currently, and while is a decent (cheap-o) phone, it has it's drawbacks.

Pros:
Solid construction - I've dropped it several times, and even once dropped it in a puddle of water with no ill effects (yet).

Get It Now - Not really a "pro", but I guess it's cool.

Cons:
The battery life on this phone is terrible. Maybe it's just my phone, but my battery lasts no longer than 90 minutes max. That's the longest it's ever lasted, and that's while the phone is PLUGGED IN. That's right, either my phone is screwed up, or the battery on this phone will die WHILE IT IS PLUGGED IN.

Kyocera Phantom (KX414)

Reviewer: scwills on Wed Jun 15, 2005

I am on a pre-pay service with Verizon. I really enjoy my Kyocera Phantom. I had another Kyocera without a color screen. the screen is a little small, but it is nice.
I wasn't too happy with the ringers in the phone itself. With 'Get It Now' you can choose your own ringers, or even make your own ringer with "Madmixer". You can also get games like TETRIS! and Solitare.

I find that there are a few downsides to the Kyocera Phantom......
~For instance, the battery does not have a long life. If you are a person who uses their phone alot, you may want to think twice.
~Secondly, the wallpapers are not that great, and I have only found GAC ringtones provide wallpapers.

Your basic no frills phone.

Reviewer: dokgene on Sun Apr 10, 2005

I used to have a Kyocera phone (2135) on the Qwest wireless network and I fell in love with the simplicity and functionality of that phone. That phone was the reason I went for a Kyocera phone on the Verizon network. But times have changed and the world has moved on. Some of my favorite features of old are gone or replaced due to the popularity of web browsing. And this phone just doesn't have the functionality or the performance to WOW me.

CONS:
- The three shortcut keys (using the directional buttons) are for web browsing or text messaging. For me these shortcuts would have been better if they went to recent call lists, contacts, key locks, sound, anything. For me, the web and messaging are useless because I don't use those functions.
- The reception isn't very good. Verizon tells me that I have some of the best tower coverage in my area, yet I sporadically get low signal strength, especially when my battery is getting low. When talking with someone, I always hear static in the background, which is very annoying and I haven't had this problem on previous phones. Frequent dropped calls.
- Battery life is poor. Kyocera claims this phone has talk time of 3.5 hours, standby of 180 hours (7.5 days). I might be able to eek out 3 hours of talk time, but I haven't had the battery last more than 3 days (1-2 days is the norm after a few calls). And the warnings before the battery is about to die are very few, usually one or two, then a very loud beep in your ear as it dies. To me this is annoying because I like to conserve my battery life by using it until fully discharged. I will counter this by getting a second battery from e-bay. **Watch out when taking the battery cover off, it digs under your fingernail…OUCH!
- No computer connection for data entry. This phone doesn't have a port to hook it up to your computer.
- The ringers suck, the screensavers suck, the wallpapers suck, the calendar sucks, and the screen is difficult to see without backlighting.

PROS:
- I love the speed dial buttons Kyocera has. You can program 99 phone numbers for speed dial. The best part of this, if you can remember where you put them, you can view the whole contact just by punching in the speed dial. For example; my folks are on speed dial 2, my girlfriend is on 21. If I punch in 2 and nothing else, it'll show me my parents contact and the rest of their numbers. If I then punch in 1, it'll show me my girlfriends contact and all of her numbers. To me it is such a convenience to have so many speed dials, and the shortcut to viewing the contacts is a bonus. One of the main reasons I came back to Kyocera.
- The phones rebate is hard to beat on Amazon. Let's face it, pay out $25, get $125 back! With that you can pay the first bill (which for Verizon turned out to be $131, watch out for Porting fees), buy extra batteries and booms, or just buy a different phone.
- The keypad buttons are easy to use, they are rubber, above the surface, and spaced well for my thick fingers.

Nice Phone. Some dumb design ideas......

Reviewer: YFNIMGCG on Thu Jul 22, 2004

I got the KX414 because I loved my ugly boring 2255. It never dropped a call (Sprint) and
never gave me problems. The 2255 brought up a most often called list with a single OK, and then an alpha listing. The KX414 takes 3 button presses (OK, Down, OK) just to get to the contacts! The Up/Dn/Left/Right button is pre-defined to "Get It Now" shopping and Web Browsing with the "Up" as "programmable - providing you like there useless choices. The 2255 could hold a call with 1 bar barely lit. The KX414 drops signals on 1-2 bars and the battery runs down quick! Sorry. Its a nicer looking phone, but I'm keeping my old 2255...

This phone is off the hook! I'm sorry...but the Verizon "Get it Now!" service is awsome! My old cell phone was an LG VX3100! Don't even try to tell me that a this phone isn't superior in EVERY way! I couldn't download anything! Now I can download a program that tells me the weather (weekly, and daily forcasts, barometer, fishing conditions apprx fish weight based on type of fish and you enter dimensions, AND a RADAR MAP which you can zoom in and out and change location by area code)! The features available on the phone that come standard still well exceed that of many others today. You can even by a new battery cover with a built in carrabeaner (one of those clips used for mountian climbing and such) clip so you can clip your phone to your belt without a case! It also doubles as a stand and folds back against the phone so you can just as easily put it in your pocket. It has a great signal...I couldn't make a call from my room with my old phone, my friend also had verizon, but had a motorola...an older one, and had 2 bars of service! Now I can make a phone call even if somebody else is on the phone because I have full signal strength! Plus it has interchangable faceplates! I win, you lose my phone rules, yours sucks end of story!
