I upgraded to my enV the day after Black Friday after having had a Razr since April (the Razr V3c, that is, so I didn't even have music capabilities). So far, I love it.
I have to start by saying that this phone isn't for everyone. For instance, my parents are repulsed by the mere mention of a phone that does not flip open to make calls and consider the QWERTY keyboard a feature impossible to master. This phone is for the textaholic and nimble fingered.
THE SIZE: This is no Razr. But you have to realize though that when you have a phone with two seperate screens, a 2.0 mega pixel camera and a QWERTY keyboard, you aren't going to be able to fit that in a small package. It is smaller than I imagined though and is smaller than T-Mobile's Sidekick 3 as well as the old V. I'm happy with the size.
THE SCREEN: The outside screen is noticeably small. When navigating the menu via the front screen the menu is cramped, showing only three lines of each menu, and doesn't have all of the features the inside screen has. To me this is okay because all I need this screen for is a quick look at the time/date, to text and make calls. You can take and view pictures, videos and listen to ringtones and music from the front screen. I was actually surprised at what you could do on this little screen.
The inside screen is really nice. It"s about the same size as the Razr's screen except sideways so you have more of a widescreen effect. The screen quality is crystal clear. Every picture or graphic looks crisp and clear. I have no complaints about the screen size. Get It Now is easy to navigate and the menus feel spacious and layed out.
When you open the screen, the hinges have to two stopping points. One is at a 90 degree angle which is good when you're sitting and if you keep pushing it lays flat which is useful when you're laying down.
CAMERA: As a wanna-be photographer, I've had to have a camera on every phone I've ever had. Most of the time this is a disappointing feature which was only good to take and send self portraits to friends and prove that I was there (like a concert). To ask for a detailed photo would be a joke. Having had several camera phones I think I can say that this phone takes amazing pictures for a picture phone.
I was skeptical about the 2.0 mega pixels but my skepticism was halted with the first picture I took. I could actually see textures other than grainy, poor quality textures. My friend and I were stunned at the quality. This has got to be one the best camera phones out there. There is a feature that enables you to send pictures to a Bluetooth enabled printer which I have not tried but I think this would be useful if you don't want to invest in a MicroSD card (which i recommend if you are big picture snapper).
I love how the entire screen becomes your view finder instead of just a segment. You can easily turn on the flash by hitting the F key on the keyboard.
My only complains about the camera is the slow response when using the auto-focus mode but given I was using the Razr camera before, this doesn't bother me, however, I can see harsher critics finding this to be a pain. The lens cover is cheap. Not gonna lie. I'm worried I might wear it out the way I play with it (its a nervous habit thing, open, close, open, close).
PHONE: Having two phones in one is great. I can do all call/texting functions on the outside display that I can do on the inside. This is good when I want to quickly text someone without opening the whole phone.
To use the speakerphone, all you do is open the phone and hit the speaker button. Once the speaker is turned on, reverting to speaker phone mode is as easy as opening the phone.
Call quality is great so far. I have only had two conversations where people have had to say, "What?", because they couldn't understand me clearly.
Silencing the phone is simple, as with most LG phones, holding the * key puts it in manner mode and two side buttons on the outside edge allow you to adjust the volume as high as you want or down to silence.
MUSIC PLAYER/SPEAKERS: I only have a few songs on my MicroSD but so far I am impressed by the sound quality. The stereo speakers have a nice sound for a phone. Don't expect any bass or dynamic sounds though. When used with the headphones that come with the Music Essentials Kit is sounds like a high end MP3 player but is no iPod.
The ringtones will play through the two speakers whether the phone is open or closed. When the phone is closed it results in sound being blasted into the keyboard of the phone. When your phone rings it may not blow you away but it still sounds good.
FINAL COMMENTS: I really love this phone and would recommend it to the younger crowd (which I am a part of) or those that are avid texters or want a phone and a toy (which I am also a part of). I haven't covered all the features in this review but I can tell you that the camera is great, the speakers sound good, the phone works great, overall this was a solid buy. My experience with LG phones has been good and I don't regret this purchase at all.

I upgraded to the LG VX9900 about 3 weeks ago. My previous phone was a Samsung SCH-a950, which i loved. I am an text message freak and wanted a phone with a QWERTY keyboard. my only reason to not get this phone was the fact that is was not a flip phone , but that complaint was quickly removed once i brought the phone home.
Call Quality
I've had Motorola, Samsung, and Nokia phones for the last 5 plus years. I have never had a phone come in so clear. I'm sure Verizon has alot to do with it but it is still a great reception phone none the less.
Appearance
Besides the fact that it is burnt orange (i'm a huge Texas Longhorn fan) the appearance is nice. Nothing to complain about here, all buttons and soft keys are place with users in mind.
Camera
This 2.0 megapixel camera is amazing. Recently i printed a photo using the bluetooth transfer feature and found it to be great quality up to a 5x7 photo. once you try to move to a 8x10 the picture quality drops dramatically. But hey, this is a phone by the way. very impressive for a phone. the autofocus can be a bit nerve racking as when you have kids and are trying to keep them still, a photo can take 5-10 seconds to complete. Still though, it is a great camera, and the video is also great, i downloaded a video to my computer and it plays perfectly using quicktime player.
Text messaging
The great thing about this phone is that you can text message the old fashion way using the front keys or flip open the phone for qwerty keyboard use. The keyboard also comes in handy when emailing (Verizon charges $5 a month to use their emailing service, but i highly recommend it) I now have full email access for my aol and yahoo email accounts (text only though) Back to the text messaging. THIS PHONE IS DESIGNED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE TO TEXT MESSAGE. if thats not your cup of tea, get a different phone.
Music player
A huge improvement for me is the ability to play standard MP3 files without having to convert them to WMA file format as I had to do with my Samsung. This is truely an MP3 player. Don't waste your money on the music essentials kit as all you need is a micro SD card and a card reader and you can drop as much music as your card can hold.I personally own an IPOD and do not plan to use this phone for music, but i have about 150 songs on my card whenever i need them. The speakers are great for a phone.
Design
Although I don't really like the block phone design, it has grown on me. The external screen is very tiny but functional, the internal screen is vibriant and one of the nicest I've seen on a cell phone. Overal the phone design is above average. The biggest complaint i've heard is the fact that the phone doesn't sit flat on the table with the camera sticking out the back. Well this problem is trivial at best. who cares.LG has crammed a ton of features into a great phone.
OVERALL
Overall on a scale of 1 to 10 I give this phone an 8 1/2. The only complain I have is for Verizon and thats the interface of the phone.Although better then most Verizon phones, it is still limited and choppy. I wish Verizon would leave the phones alone. I would like a fresh interface with a new phone and unfortunately this something I'll haveto live with. Besides that this phone is great. outstanding in the 3 weeks i've had it.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL

I've had this phone for about a month now and I am quite pleased and impressed with its overall performance and improvements. There are, however, minor annoyances with the design and functionality.
Design- The VX9900's smoother and smaller form factor gives it a lighter and more comfortable feel in the hand. The phone remains durable and compact, making it able to withstand common drops and scratches. The internal screen is large and expansive, but the external screen is small and useless. I was impressed with the qwerty keyboard's new tactile design. A minor annoyance is it unable to rest flat on surfaces due to the camera lens bulge and hinge design.
Call Quality- The call quality was overall good and loud; voices on speakerphone had a rather metallic sound to them.
Features/Performance- The VX9900's features and performance were quite impressive. The EV-DO service and file transfers were quite speedy. The integrated MP3 player, VCAST service, and camera had a sluggish performance at times. I really like the loud, dual stereo speakers while talking on speakerphone, playing music, or watching videos. Battery life is impressive as well.
Camera- The 2.0 megapixel camera gives superior photo quality and the phone also has several photo editing options. Camera resolution ranges from 320x240 to 1600x1200. When closed, the camera ergonomics are that of a real digital camera; when open, the camera ergonomics are a bit awkward. I really wish there was not a lens cover for several reasons. The new lens cover adds a bulge, which makes it impossible for the phone to rest flat on surfaces. It also forces you to adjust the placement of your fingers while holding the phone open. The lens feels cheap and can easily be worn out or stuck if played with too much.
The LG enV is filled with rich multimedia features and a full QWERTY keyboard. There are several design and functionality issues, but then again, what phone doesn't? The pros definitely outweigh the cons, and I recommend this phone to anyone.

I originally upgraded my phone to the 8600 but decided to take it back and exchange it for the enV. Nothing against the 8600 (I wrote a review on it as well), but I decided that, considering my family & I use 2500-3000 text a month, the enV would be a more useful phone for me. This phone performs very well in every category. The size is slightly larger than it's predecessor (the 9800) in length but thinner so it seems to fit in my hands better. The front panel is well laid out, although I prefer larger number buttons than these. A customizable keyguard helps keep from accidently bumping buttons and making unknown calls. The front screen is average size, but seems rather small in relation to the software. It only shows 3 menu items at a time, but once you learn the menus by number it's not an issue. The inside is mostly black, with only silver accents on the speakers & the soft keys. The inside screen is large, bright and vibrant, near widescreen size. The QWERTY keyboard is easy to get use to, with the menu key, directional key, and 'send' & 'end' keys on the right side. It fits easily in my hands while typing text messages and all of the keys are accessible without stretching. One of the neat features about this phone is the speakerphone. Although you can't use it from the front, you can turn it on from the inside and leave it on so when you open the phone it's automatically in speakerphone mode. This is helpful in a situation where you're on a call and receive a text and need to respond to it. Probably the best feature of this phone is the camera. A whopping 2 megapixel camera takes unbelievable photos. It can be used from the front or inside. It has auto focus with 3 settings: one step (press the TAKE button once and it will focus then snap), two step (press the TAKE button once and it focuses, then press the it again to take the pic), and off (no auto focus). Other features are self timer (3, 5, and 10 seconds), white balance, color effects, night mode, and resolutions up to 1600x1200. You can send pics via bluetooth to bluetooth-enabled printers, although I have yet to be able to print one (a problem with my printer, not the phone). There's built in memory for pics and music, but it's minimal (around 45mb total) so a memory card is a necessity if you plan on taking many pics or using the mp3 player. The UI is really simple to use, at least in VZW mode. There's also a Communicator mode, but I haven't used it. I also haven't used the wireless email sync or any of the IM programs so I can't comment on them, but I'm sure they're easy to use if they keep form with the rest of the phone features. The stereo speakers sound rather good for tiny speakers, but don't expect any low bass frequencies. The charging port is on the bottom or left depending on if the phone is closed or open. I'm not too thrilled about LG's new charging ports/plugs. They seem a little flimsy and could easily break over time, but we'll see. The memory card and 2.5mm headphone jack are on the right or bottom, again depending on the phone being open or closed. I drive a rather noisy diesel truck during the day, and I've had some complaints of people on the other line hearing cracking or breaking up noises, but they stopped when I shut the truck off. This might be because of the speaker phone being on. Overall, this is by far the BEST phone I've had in every aspect. I'll probably never have a normal clamshell phone again. I love using the QWERTY keyboard for texting. If you are a heavy texter, I highly recommend the LG enV!

Pros:
-bright and clear screen resoulution
-sturdy and doesn't scratch easily
-speakers are cool very loud for music and speakerphone
-gets better reception than other verizon phones
-has another theme than just only verizon wireless theme
-easy to navigate
-camera is better than a lot of other mobile phones
-has the latest applications; vcast, email, etc.
-battery life is great, i use it all day and it never dies
-GPS navigator really works
-videos can be applied as wallpaper
-five-way navigation buttons can be customize unlike many other verizon phones
-has ringtone + vibrate unlike other verizon phones
phone can read out text, but louds scratchy
Cons:
-email is too expensive
-IM is okay but it show sending message everytime you send an IM unlike the SIDEKICK 3, which sends the message right away, also no need to refresh the list
-it has only music mode so i can't text, go on the web, etc. at the same time
-on the keyboard the enter button is useless
-i had a hard time trying to put music on my phone from my computer because i had windows media player 11 and vcast music is on 10, so i had to rollback to 10. i still had problems. sometimes it works, but most of the time i can't sync my music
-can't transfer pictures and videos to phone through usb only music
vcast drains a lot of the battery life
-verizon should have unlimited text messages because i go over 2,500 in like 2 weeks
-vcast video can only be store in the phone memory so you can have only a few videos at a time

From most standpoints, I'm more than happy with this phone. It's impressed me in size and capability, especially for the price.
Battery Life: After first draining the battery to auto-shutdown and fully charging the unit, the battery lasted me about 54 hours with fairly active use phone use with a bluetooth device. Significant photo/video and music use of course shortens that.
Functionality: Switching to the menu system of the enV from older LG phones was very simple. The interface is well laid out, with the vocal interface being especially nice. The POP3 email access is a nice feature, however requires a pricey subscription for use.
Camera: With a resolution maximum of 1600x1200, you shouldn't have trouble taking photos that are usable. There are some handy settings (various white-balance, focusing options, exposure compensation), however the delay for the "shutter" can be frustrating.
Music/Sounds: The sound through the dual speakers are very nice. It's disappointing however that you can not set text-tones specific to the contact as you can with ringtones. Also potentially disappointing is the inability to use uploaded MP3s as ringtones (unless I am missing how to do this).

I really liking my enV. The guys at the Verizon store said I would'nt be able to use to use my mac to transfer songs and movies to it and that I would need the"music essential kit." Turns out it wasnt so essential. I can transfer my files via bluetooth which almost seems faster then the usb cable that came with the kit. A guy at circuit city sold me the 2 gig micro card for only $80! And using quicktime to convert my movies to 3gp's has made them very small files so ive already been able to put like 10 full lenth movies on it and I still have like 2/3 of my memory left. The video qualitys not great but Its perfect for when your bored and all you have is your phone, like when your waiting in line or something. To transfer songs this way you have to put them in the sounds folder. It makes it so you cant fastforward/rewind but atleast you dont need to go through v-cast menu to access your music and then you could get by without the music essential kit at all. Also the headphones that come with that kit are bugged so you have to actually hold the button to hear music. All in all i love the phone, but I dont like the music kit. Does anyone know how I can hook normal headphones to the enV? Someone told me I could use my bluetooth headset but I dont like the idea of only hearing music in one ear. Any Ideas?

Pros:
-2 megapixel camera
-another interface than just on VZW
-speakers are loud
-speech to text
-thinner than the V
-very loud when talking on the phone
-Vcast video and music
-EVDO better than EGDE
-2 phones in one. before i had verizon and this phone i had t-mobile. i had the RAZR and the MDA, so having one phone that can sort of do what these two phone does is great.
-shutter for camera
-2 GB micro SD slot
-keyboard feels better than the SIDEKICK 3
-battery life is great
-Ringtone + Vibrate
Cons:
-it's a verizon phone so a lot of things on it is blocked, example, can't move music, videos, and pictures directly to phone. Cannot bluetooth ringtones like motorola phones on Cingular and T-Mobile.
-vcast video resolution should be bigger for the screen size
-wireless sync email cost too much. it doesn't work any different from a free email on the internet such as gmail
-main part of the phone doesn't work with the front closed part of the phone. like when texting on the main screen and you close it to continue texting if you don't want to use the main screen. it just delete the message so you would have to type the message all over again. i hope this make sense. lol. i'm confusing myself too.
-airtime charges on almost everything like when IM, sending picture messages, etc.
if they were to upgrade this phone it should have vcast mobile TV that is coming out soon. i'll buy it even though i would have to pay for the full retail price. overall a great phone.

I got this fone not even a week ago and I love it.
My mom gave it to me as a birthday present.
So, let me start. I come from a long range of fones. I started my contract with Verizon 2 years ago for my 15th bday, and my first fone was a Samsung a670. Loved it, but ended up dropping it in the toilet 11 months later ((whoops.))
Then I got an LGVX6000. Loved it, but this was a terribly flimsy fone. That fone actually made me HATE LG's. Less than a week of having it, and a hinge broke. ((I actually wrote this in a review for that model on this site.)) I kept the fone for a few more months, broke it even worse, and got a good ol' Nokia brick fone. The 2128i to be exact. That fone was actually wonderfull, but I became less and less satisfied with it. It was a great fone and all, but I like having gadgets. This one had no camera, no web or IM capabilities, nothing fancy. When I got it I was at the point where I didn't care - I needed a fone that worked and was durable.
Just after Christmas I bought myself yet another Samsung a670, because for Christmas, my aunt and uncle bought my mom the light pink Razr, and they had forgotten my gift and got my hopes all up, because they gave the boys the same things, the younger ones with cars the same sattelite radio, and my mom got the fone. all I got was a stupid gift card. I was jealous, and because my mom had gotten a new fone I had to have one too. It wasn't fair. So anyways, I bought myself the Samsung I missed oh so very much, and I used that one untill I got my EnV just a few days ago.
So, I have had my fair share of experience with fones. Gone through 4 fones in 2 years - and on the 5th! Let me say the EnV is definitely EVERYTHING I look for in a fone. Untill I heard of the EnV, I was actually considering ending my contract with Verizon and going to T-Mobile so I could get a Sidekick 3. Then I saw the EnV and fell in love.
I went online and did my research. I noticed The V - came here and read some reviews and saw that people were incredibly displeased with that fone. It worried me about the EnV. Once I found some reviews on this site with the EnV and saw how phenominal it was, my mind was leaning more towards the EnV. ((I was considering getting a chocolate, but I'm not big with having MP3 players on a fone - battery drainer, plus I have an iPod.))
So now that I have my EnV I couldn't be happier. The camera is absolutely AMAZING. I can't believe it. I read that the capabilities of the EnV are far better than the SK3, which pleases me as well.
I'm not one to read the user manuals, because with my past in fones, I catch on pretty fast, but this fone has too much for me to handle on my own - as does the user manual.
There's a few things I can't stand about this fone though - I agree with everybody else, the front screen is pretty much useless and it's so small. I don't really like how it goes completely black either, so there's no quick way to check the time/date. I do love the design of the front though - very typical cell-fone like, which is what I always look for in a fone.
Another thing that really grinds my gears is that I can't figure out how to activate the speakerfone and I can't figure out how to activate one-touch dial. I've been looking through the manual all day today and I still can't find ANYTHING about activating the speakerfone. I assumed it was the 1 key, because yanno. it had the face with the sound coming out of the mouth, but when I made a call and pressed it or held it down it just tried to say it was going to call voicemail.
One more thing that ticks me off, is that when I go to websites I can't log in. Of course, I try to use this fone with Myspace, since it lets me surf the web and whatnot, but it takes SO LONG to scroll through everything and once I try to log in it does nothing. Same with every other website I'm a part of in which you have to log in to. And when the miracle happens when I am able to get on the web, I can't leave a comment or send a message or email on any site. It's really disappointing.
Also, last night I was trying to look at a website in which you DON'T have to be a member of, and every time I went to the site it restarted my fone. It shut off, then came back on. I really can't figger out what the deal is with that.
But mostly, I wanted this fone for the texting/IM capabilities. I'm not a very big texter, but I'm always on AIM and alot of the time I'm talking to people. My only problem with that is that it only loaded one group out of my whole buddy list, and I can only type 133 characters. That does create some static with my fun, but I think the bigger "staticy" issue here is the fact that I only get 500 texts a month, and I'm sure I've used about two thousand since I got this fone!
The inside screen is totally amazing. I still get so giddy and warm inside when I open my fone and see the screen. I love how the letters glow light blue and the buttons with words on them glow this light green color and the soft keys at the top glow orange. It's very versatile and unique.
The camera lens cover does feel a bit cheap. I try not to fidget with it too much, but whenever I leave my fone unattended my boyfriend snatches it and starts taking pictures of everything and leaves the lens open. I do like the idea of it, so that the lens doesn't get all scratched up and whatnot, but it's so darn fun to spin the little wheel thingy.
I don't like that the lens cover makes it impossible to keep the fone on a flat surface. If I have it on my desk or something and I try to text or IM, I get nervous that it'll crack or break from it wobbling around so much while I type.
I also don't necessarily love the location of the camera button, or the fact that you have to wait like 30 seconds after pressing it before you can see what picture you took ((especially hard when you have it on manner mode!)), or the fact that if you hold it down for more than 3 seconds it goes into video mode. I'd really rather if the actual camera lens and battery area switched places if the camera button is located where it is, because with the fone closed, if I try to take a picture my fingers get in the way, and if I hold it any other way I get scared I'll drop it.
Also, my fone didn't come with a USB cable. And none of the cables I have will fit. AND I can't figure out where the heck it would go if I acquired one! Nor did it come with a headset, which I don't really care much for, and I know you buy those seperately. I'm not sure if you can record a song on the fone and turn it into a ringtone, but regardless - I don't have a USB cable for this fone so I'm out of luck there.
The battery life on this thing is totally amazing. I can be on AIM chatting with people all day and at the end of the day I'll have 2 - maybe even 3 bars left. Which last a good while. And if I go a day without using it so much, I don't have to charge it overnight.
All in all, regardless of its flaws, LG has finally managed to impress me and re-gain my respect. I'm trusting that this fone lasts me alot longer than my others have, and this is by far the greatest fone I've ever had in my life. I absolutely love it, and I highly reccommend this fone to anybody who's a textaholic or IM-a-holic. ((I myself am not a big talker, I'm bigger on IM'ing!))

Phone works great, the camera is excellent, but Verizons klunky user interface software really kills it for me. This is going to be a long two year contract.

This phone takes great pictures/Video being it has a 2.0 camera in it. There is no flash. It has the qwerty keyboard with dual speakers once you open the phone to the keyboard and it really woes the crowd when you show them the keyboard. But...
This phone wasn't for me. Sure you could load up a movie and watch it on this phone, if your bored. I text a good amount; but, found it hard to create text messages using this very tiny keyboard. And the the and keys are difficult to access while flyin' on the keyboard. Not to mention you need (2) hands just to type a message. Grant you can use the phone when it's closed but the screen is incredibly small on the front.
Never figured out how to get the speaker phone on, when the phone was closed so I could use it in the car while driving. (No I didn't look in the book.) And when talking on it, the sound was kinda muffled and not clear, even with the volume up.
I'm coming from a Motorola V276.
So I opted for the LG VX8600 instead, over this 9900 phone. Which I guess I'm just comfortable with a clam shell type phone over anything else. Heard too many griefs with the Motorola Razr & Krzr.
