Got my LG L1400 a month ago...absolutely beautiful...no problems with it...apart from a small glitch with downloading games (which I discovered was a problem on Cingular's game download server which they managed to fix in a few days).
Picture caller ID is awesome though I'm still not entirely sure how many actual picture caller IDs I'm allowed to assign...Also if I assigned a picture for caller id...and it gets un-assigned...I can't seem to re-assign that picture to any phone number anymore. It effectively becomes just another picture in my gallery with no option to assign to phone no. I find that annoying because every time that happens...I have to retake the picture. I'm still trying to figure this out.
Music tones and Sound FX tones are awesome...mp3 songs and sounds for ringtones are beyond cool. And those ringtones can also be used for your alarm clock as well as Calender reminders.
The 2 colour displays are gorgeous...I like having 2 different wallpapers...as well as seeing picture caller id before opening my phone. Taking self portraits has never been easier. Hold down the photo button for a few seconds...the preview comes on...then click away.
Another minor gripe...the volume control buttons at the side of the phone are a little too flat and hard to feel in the middle of a conversation...no distinct nubs like my old (archaic) LG T510 where I can feel the buttons.
Also...I would have liked Yahoo IM on my Instant Messenger part of the phone (instead of just AOLs AIM). Apparently I can still use Yahoo IM but via the Media.net browser on the phone.
From what I know...you can assign 6 mp3/poly ringtones to the 6 caller groups...which I guess is fine. Its a bit unreasonable to expect 10+ ringtones for all your friends...too many different ringtones can be too confusing and would defeat the purpose of assigning ringtones so you can tell who is calling.
I downloaded 3 games which averaged about 60-70kb each...costed me $5-$6 depending on game...as well as the cost of the kbs needed to download it to my phone (at 1c per kb...thats about 60-70c per game)
The game variety is not as big as the name brands like Motorola...but its small selection seems to be slowly growing. It added 3 new games in the past month.
The look of the phone is beautiful...silver and sleek...surprisingly light...and the keys are big enough for my big fingers...I had gotten 2 Sony Ericsson T637s (which were free at cingular.com at the time) for my brother and mum...and as cool and slick as those phones were...their keys were just way too small for me.
Battery life seems good...lasts me around 2 days with average talking...and above average use of the games and camera...however I didn't actually let it go below 1 or 2 bars before re-charging...so it probably would have lasted longer. Plus I enabled ring AND vibrate so that probably saps a bit more power each time i get a call.
Its nice to have Infra-red...but I'm yet to use that. I wish there was a way to transfer pictures via the IR to my laptop. Apparently the IR is meant for transferring scheduling info and contacts to and from your computer...or connecting your laptop to the internet via IR link to the phone. Don't really use this feature...
Overall...this phone is great...no major gripes...lots of features you would expect on a $100+ phone but I got it for $30. Reception and sound seems pretty good.

After having this phone for a about a week or so. I would have to say that I like this phone.
Pros:
1) Clarity, excellent reception. Almost always at 5 bars (N.E. Ohio, USA)
2) Large TFT main display, excellent back lighting; clear and bright (though the keys of the phone itself are lit rather unevenly, esp. at the edges.) Bright full color OLED (organic electro-luminescence) on sub-display.
(i
3) Large keypad, makes for easier input for larger fingers (though not very tactile at times; some buttons seem rather flat and hard to find blindly.)
4) Camera's ease of use coupled with the ability to shoot self portraits while phone is folded.
5) Gradually increasing ringer volume while receiving a call (not blaring when phone first rings but after 3rd or 4th ring it is a full predefined volume. Takes the surprise out while sitting in a quiet environment.
However, there are few glaring annoyances.
Cons:
1) Cingular branding (5 instances) (wish they'd PAY me to advertise!)
2) Inability to change the screen saver on sub-display, (no screen saver on main display) sub-display scrolls the word Cingular with the Cingular logo horizontally across screen right to left.
Setting the sub-display to always on simply turns the unchangeable, unconfigurable screen saver on indefinitely. The sub-display information (clock, date, icons, wallpaper etc.,) will only stay on for about 7 seconds no matter what setting is used. In other words, the "always on" setting affects only the duration of the screen saver on the sub-display not the duration of the wallpaper. The wallpaper on the sub-display will always turn off after several seconds.
3) Lack of speaker phone.
4) Lack of supplied data cable (though one was not expected.)
5) Quality of ring tones degrade as the ringer volume is turned up (slightly distorted and tinny at full volume.)
6) The inability to recognize if the phone is actually powered on. Besides ringing, pushing of a button or lifting the lid, one is unable to tell if the phone is actually powered on!

i got the L1400 shortly after it's release. i had (still have) the 1200, and the only "complaint" i have in going from the 1200 to the 1400 is A). you can't switch between vibrate and tone modes with the flip closed by holding the volume up/down button. and 2). on the 1200, if i had a text/voice message, whenever i'd return to the main screen the notification would pop up. it doesn't on the 1400. the notifier only pops up when the flip is closed then opened. other than those two things, i have nothing bad to say about the 1400. works find with all my data connections to my laptop. love the color outter display, which is what i wanted in the 1200, but didn't know the 1400 was on it's way. otherwise i would have waited.

I am a new user to the LG L1400. I have recently upgraded and joined the 21st century after using the LG G4010.
In a short amount of time I've been able to discern that the advertised 9-day battery truly does not last 9 days. Try two if you have AOL IM signed on accidentally or leave the displays on too long.
Also, I was saddened that the voice recording feature could not be made into ring tones, or that I (again) could not customize a ring tone for one select person, but only for that group (family, friends, VIP, etc).
Also, the infrared port apparently does not work with Palms. How sad. I tried beaming contacts over to my phone and it did not work. It didn't even register as a device.
The guidelines for switching in between the "ent9" linguist application and the simple abc mode for IMs and photo naming is hard to remember to do. Personally, I don't carry my manual with me everywhere and having to do so, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of being "mobile."
That's all for now. You may hear more later once I've memorized the manual
Here's an update on the phone usage, since my last review:
I had the unfortnate experience of losing my entire address book. It was then that I realized that not only did some pictures get erased, others that stayed were no longer listed as photo ID pictures, for me to reassign to the newly-entered contacts. Some did.
When I'm online, I no longer have a way to go "back" on the browser. Now, I have to go to the starting home page, unless the page I'm on has a link to go back. Minor inconvenience.
Otherwise, it's a crisp, clean phone that offers little problems and a lot of rewards. The only other "problems" I've encountered involve leaving the phone on for too long--the phone does needs to be powered off about every 5 days or so, otherwise it starts to lose memory.
Also, since Cingular and AT&T have merged, I have had to call tech support to access the internet because passwords etc. were changed.
The swivel belt clip (accessory, purchased separately) has served really well and the camera's body shows resilience and takes a beating. I have no more complaints, only praises.

I've had the L1400 for about two months now and I absolutely love it. It has beautiful color displays on both screens, takes good pictures, nice big buttons, and i could go on... I even like the voice key tones, everyone thinks that's cool.
I guess the only problems I have are:
1) no speakerphone - how convenient that would be
and
2)it's extremely hard to hear the ringtones - it seems like it's just mainly the mp3's that i've downloaded which are hard to hear, but i don't understand why. So i always seem to miss calls cause i don't hear them, oh yeah and whenever someone calls you it has an increasing ringtone, meaning it starts out soft and then gets louder on the end. I wish i could change that but it seems as if you're not able to.
Other than those problems I've had a great experience with this phone
