LG LX5550 (VX5550) User Reviews

I have had this phone for about a year and a half now and it has had soo many different problems since I got it. I am on my third one now and when I told my us cellular tech about it she said yeah they had had a lot of complaints about it and I think discontinued it.

I love its outer display, the loud speaker phone and I love this phone in general when it works, i just wish it didnt have so many quirks and problems.

I can get a new phone in April of 2007 and I can't wait because although I liked this phone, im tired of not knowing if its going to work the next day or not.

This phone is really cool. Its "driving" mode function works very well. I also like the "announcement" feature which says out loud who's calling; that's really nice because then you don't even have to look at your phone to decide whether to take the call or not.

The other LG LX6000 has some features I would like to have, but I didn't get it because it was digital only, and that means you might lose your calls sometimes. Also, it doesn't have the driving mode feature.

I wish they could put both phones' features together; it would a very nice phone! I'm sure they will some day; hopefully they won't charge too much.

Seems like there's some real quality issues with this phone. The first one I had started to shut itself off constantly after the first two weeks. The second phone work great for about 4 months then the speaker phone quit rendering all of the voice command stuff unusable. The third phone, which I just got today and I'm taking back tomorrow, has a problem with the inner display which shows the graphics chopped up and/or distorted. In defense of LG, there is a possibility that the retailer could have taken a phone that was already returned by someone else out of the box by accident and given it to me. I didn't see the box opened before the phone was removed so I can't say for sure but I've had enough headaches with this model so I'm going to look into something else.

Looking at some of the Pros/Cons listed below it's quite apparent to me that this phone was really designed for women who keep their phones in their purses.

Pros:
- Loudest ringer/speaker phone I've heard. People jump when my phone rings!
- Good 1x reception. (Bell Mobility, Southern Ontario)
- Clear sound for both ends.
- Display is easy to read in direct sun.
- Voice commands work well even with a fair amount of noise in the background.
- External display is bright.
- On/Off sounds can be shut off.
- Vibrate function is very good.
- Stylish looks.
- T9 text function works very well
- Side buttons design seems to resist accidental button pressing.
- Comfortable fit and opening for larger hand.
- Animated menus can be turned off.

Cons:
- Can't use the speaker phone with the clam shell closed.
- Inadequate battery performance for stand-by mode. Seems like I've got to charge it every 2.5 to 3 days.
- Minimal success making calls in Analog mode.
- Too few games/apps are available.
- Quality issues.
- Voice dialing from address book only dials the default number.
- A few functions (including voice) do not work in analog mode.
- Girlie ring tones and animations.

I have had my LG LX5550 for about six months now. I have traveled extentsively throughout Mexico and Central America as well as the U.S. and have had no problems with reception, "drop-offs" or any other complaint that the others have shared.
Quite to the contrary, I find the sound volume crisp and clear. The speaker phone feature is the best thing since sliced bread for driving "hands-free."
Aside from the tech aspects, the phone is beautiful. I have the burgundy and silver model (Alltel) and it is simply gorgeous! EVERYONE compliments me on the phone. They want to to check out every feature! I am impressed by the "feel" of the phone and even the size of the buttons.
It is fully up-to-date with web and e-mail access and ample memory.
I like those cool "marque" like movements of the time display and those goofy little lights.
I change phones constantly, but I think I am going to stick with this one like I did with the Startac... As long as I could.
I recommend this phone!

(P.S. I use the Alltel CDMA phone, but my service provider is Verizon)

I still like this phone, but the speaker phone went out on this phone after only having it a couple of months. That means not only can't you use it for the speaker phone, but the ringer uses the same speaker, so I didn't know when someone was calling.

When I brought it in for repair under warranty, it took about two months to get it back. In the meantime, I'm stuck with a loaner phone I don't like.

Once I got it back, the phone worked fine. One of the things I find irritating is when you give it commands, it takes so long. The processor that controlling the voice recognition sounds like it could use a cup of coffee or two.

Overall, my experience with the phone has been very good and I would recommend it to my friends. I think once they get all the bugs out, they'll come up with even a better phone than they already have.

The Lg 5550 has some wonderful features. I would adore this phone if it worked. The screen displays gibberish, I can hear the caller but they can't hear me and vice versa, and it routinely drops calls in the middle of a full set of "tower bars." The sad thing is, I am not the only victim. I have two friends who bought the same phone and have had worse problems than I, and were treated like they had played catch with the phones when they took them in for service. They have not dropped their phones, but the salespeople insinuated they were lying.
