I have just gotten an LG VX4500 yesterday. I have spent some time learning to use the many features this phone offers. This review is after one day of getting to know the phone.

After coming from a Nokia 5165, this is a dream phone. The ringer is plenty loud and can be changed. There are in my opinion plenty of ring tones to choose from. Rings that sound like a ringing phone or different tunes. There are 499 memorys for contacts. There is room for more than one phone number per person and one can enter an email address as well. Icons are next to the numbers to let you know if it is a home number, fax, mobile, or work number. Nice feature. The contacts can be accessed by scrolling throgh an entire list or one can enter a letter or name and go directly to an entry. One can set up groups of contacts such as friends, family, collegues, business, school, and none. One can search by groups as well. Different ringers can be set for different groups or for each contact if one wishes. Very flexible in this regard.

I especially like the "driving mode". One can set the phone to be voice activated. It will recognize each number when spoken, a name from the contacts list, or one can give voice commands. The phone includes a small speaker for hands free use while driving. I used it once yesterday and with the phone about 3 to 4 feet from me, the person on the other end could here me fine. Of course a little louder when I moved it closer. The phone employes a short training session to recognize the user's voice which one need only do once. It seems to recognize numbers quite well. It will read back and ask for confermation before automatically dialing.

One can also set the phone to voice announce the phone number of the caller instead of a ring. It repeats until one answers the phone. Of course it has a vibrate and silent mode as well.

The display can be set to several different pictures, contrast and brightness can be set. The phone will do text messaging with some predetermined words in its data base or one can type ones own message. I have not used this feature yet.

The phone includes a "voice scheduler" where one can record a 10 second message as well as a text message to alert on to an event. The phone will ring with the ringer of your choice. One can set it to ring at the time of the event, 10 minutes before the event, 1hr. before the event or a couple of days before the event.

There are 4 alarm clocks which can be set. A calculator is included as well as a tip calculator. Handy if you are math challenged, and a world clock with different citys viewed by a line mobing accross a map.

There are other features of this phone I have not tried yet. My first impression is that this is a terrific phone. I was considering the motorolla T730 but research seems to indicate that it suffers from a short battery life. The VX4500 seems to be better from what I heard.

This is one feature packed phone in a small package. So far I am very happy with this phone.

Did I mention I love this phone? It does have a vibraton mode, I love the keys on the side of the phone because if you forget to turn the sound off during a meeting or something you just press anyone of those buttons on the side and it turns the ringer off while that person is calling. Love the speaker phone it has great sound. Awsome color screen with cool wallpapers. I very rarely drop calls, I get better reception than most people at my work, not to mention I work at a place that has many satellites around it that mess with the cell phone reception and mine works great. It is insanely durable I've dropped this little sucker too many times to count and it always works perfectly. My screen has never cracked or anything from my dropping it. The ringtones that came with the phone and the ones I downloaded are great they have great sound on this phone where as on my sister's sprint phone the same song sounds like crap. I've had this phone for over a year and I think I'll keep for a lot longer as I have yet to find a phone with out a camera with all of these great features. I recommend this phone to anyone who needs a phone without a camera. icon_wub.gif icon_w00t.gif

I have had my vx4500 for about a year and a half....of course now little things are going wrong with it. but all in all its been a really good phone and i would recommend it to anyone. The phone is very durable...mine has been dropped in water many times and turned out just fine....I drop it a lot and other than a few little scratches here and there, no problems have arose. The speaker quality is great...the ringer is loud (easy to hear) and when on vibrate mood it is very easy to tell you are getting a call. Some of the features are basic, but not every one needs fancy phones...following up on some of the reception comments and think it is probably your service and not your phone, i have traveled through a lot of the country and never had reception problems, come on i live in south dakota, and i get really good reception here, and there aren't many towers. All in all I have been very satisfied with the phone!

icon_exclaim.gif icon_exclaim.gif icon_exclaim.gif Ok so i have had my phone for about a year now and i had my phone in my pocket and somehow it fell out of my pocket on to my wood floors. Keep in mind this phone has not been dropped a lot of times but the minute it hit the floor the two hinges that keeps the battery on the phone broke off instantly! I know that a battery is not much to have to but but for a teenager it is hard to give up $30 that easily! Alought this phone does have many advantages such as speaker phone, lots of ringtones, txt messaging, vibration mode, driving mode, side buttons, and being easy to use there are lots of troubles that come with the phone.

icon_frown.gif Negitives...

1. phone gets very hot after a lond phone call and becomes uncomfortable to hold to ear

2. the battery does not last as long as you might be told-there is no way you can get away with not charging the phone over night and if you do you will not have very long until the battery is dead the next morning!

3. Many times i have accedentialy push the side buttons and turned off a phone call or the buttons have hit my purse-gone off silent mode and disturbed the people arund me

4. this phone scratches very very very icon_exclaim.gif easily!

Oh yea and if you are buying this phone for a teenager he/she might have a problem with the lack of "cool" wallpapers!

-hope i was helpfull,
Sb

Many people think that this phone loses reception to much and has to many dropped calls. Well if you research you'll realize that it's not only this phone. It's many other newer model phone. They use a new IS-2000 digital service. Where as you're older phones don't use that. The newer phones use this and almost all of them have bad reception. If you go to an old Nokia phone, say i5185, then you're going to get great reception. It's just a choice you make when deciding if you really want that new camera phone or color phone. It's not only with verizon either. Cingular and Sprint and many other carriers have the same problem. So please don't mistake it for being a problem with Verizon or the actual phone.

I've had my VX4500 for months now, after my Audiovox 9000 series died. It's my first flip phone, so it took me a while to get used to it. I have several complaints:

a. mode buttons on the outside. There are several buttons on the left outside of the case. I keep the phone in my front pocket. This means that when it rings and I pull it out, it's easy to accidentally put the phone into one of its modes or to change the ringer volume. Similarly, about 1 time in 5 when I go to use the phone, it goes into voice activiation mode because the buttons are almost impossible to miss when held normally in my right hand.

b. hot - The phone gets hot (well - let's say very warm) when talking for a while. It almost gets uncomfortable to hold to your ear.

c. poor reception in marginal areas. I live in the Philadelphia area and I chose Verizon because they have the best network for my standard corridors in the western suburbs. In 18 months, my Audiovox never dropped a call. With the VX4500, dropped calls have become a regular occurence. I've now gone back to not making calls on certain trips because it's so predictable. This is the reason I originally dumped AT&T and it's totally frustrating.

.....I would not have gotten the VX4500. Derfman and Kngfisher are RIGHT. The mode buttons on the outside of the phone cause problems. They are too easy to hit by mistake. Also, the phone does get extremely hot. But worst of all is the reception. I had a Kyocera with Verizon service and had no problem at all with phone calls at my home. With the VX4500, at least half of my calls are dropped and probably 80% of the remainder get poor reception. I hear about half the conversation. Since I am going to be working out of my home more, this will not do. Verizon refuses to replace the phone (except with another VXC4500) so I am going to go back to my old Kyocera.

I am ending my second year with this phone and aside from freezing errors within the first year and random shut down and restarts, I must say, it's been a trusty phone, for as much as I use it that is. I like the option of being able to set multiple numbers and even an email address for a single person, clasifying contacts into groups, and even setting individual ringtones for individual people. One thing I think is a blessing to the phone is the multiple alarm clocks, 3 to be exact, and a quick alarm if you only need 10 minutes, half hour, 1 hour or 3 hours for whatever reason.

I really like this phone. It is cool. There are only 2 cons.....

1. No Camera (that's why I have digital camera)
2. Bad Battery Life(iv'e had my phone for 2 years)

Here are the cons.....

1. LOUD and CLEAR speaker phone
2. Loud ringtones
3. Mobile Web
4. Get It Now
5. Voice Dial
6. Outer Caller ID
7. GREAT Reception
8. EASY to use

This phone is 10 times better than the SAMSUNG SCH a630, that phone is VERY uncomfortablt to talk on. I like this phone, I don't know what those other people are talking bout, but i LOVE this phone. LG rocks!!

As awsome as this phone is, I'm a little dissapointed that the rear speaker stopped working after one week of use.

I'm even more dissapointed that my Verizon rep tells me LG will only repair it under warranty and not replace it outright as a defective unit simply because I sent in the rebate form.

If I wanted to be treated like this, I would have bought a Sony/Erricson phone.

Still, hope springs eternal, and maybe it'll all work out.
