LG VX4650
Reviewer: Rich215 on Tue Dec 26, 2006
My family and I got a service plan over a year ago with 4 LG 4650's. They are great phones......except now for 1 big thing.
They all started having battery/charging problems at almost the same time....approximatley 7 months into useage. The phone does not know when the battery is fully charged. The charge will cut off even after a few minutes of it on...with a dead battery. So it states "CHARGE COMPLETE"....but the batter only charged for 15 minutes or so. A full charge on a dead batter should be 2-3 hrs of charge time. And also when your supposedly at 2,3,or 4 bars on the charge indicator....the phone will go dead on a 5-10 minute call!!!!!!
Also, not sure if people don't read the manual....or this phone had the vibrate added after the first batch? But it does have vibrate and it works fine!
Like the others have said, this is a great phone, but with this internal problem, this phone is driving us all to look at anything but LG phones.

beautiful phone with vibrate only
Reviewer: tim24 on Tue Jan 16, 2007
yes there is a vibrate only option. This is a feature called manner mode. It's also in the user manual. I got a braille coppy of the manual for my beautiful phone a month after I got it. to turn the manner mode on , hold down the star button for a fiew seconds. to turn off the manner mode option, hold down the star button again for a fiew seconds and then you will be back into normal mode.

the beautiful lgvx4650 for a blind cell phone user
Reviewer: tim24 on Thu Feb 01, 2007
As I said earlier, this beautiful phone from verizon wireless is vary accessible to customers who are blind or visually impaired. When I got this beautiful phone at the verizon wireless store, I was concerned that I was not going to get it, because it was on its last life cycle, but they kept it on hold for me and I was vary pleased to finally get it.
The reception is vary good, even at 1 bar.
I can simply look at my contacts list by pressing the right soft key and having my phone announce the contacts alphabetically, and i can decide if I want to call that person or not. Also for blind users of this phone, you can add a contact to this beautiful phone’s phone book with a voice command, as well as configure special features such announce mode, to turn on or off.
When I say adding a contact by a voice command, this does not mean recording a voice dial tag, but actually having this beautiful phone guide the blind user in adding a name and number in the actual phone book itself with spoken voice prompts! But first, it will ask you do you want to read? Create? or erase a contact. You simply say create or scroll to it and press ok. Then it will ask you to say a phone number. Then you say the phone number you would like to add to the contact list. Then it will ask, save number as home? Office? Mobil? Pager? Or fax. Say the label. If it is your friends home phone then say home. If it’s a cell phone , say Mobil. Now this is where it gets vary, vary fun. It will ask you type the name with the key pad. Wait 3 seconds to hear what you have entered. As you type the letters of the persons first and last name, the phone will announce the letters as you type them. Then, a recorded female human voice will announce the letters you just pressed, while a synthesized voice will tell you what you just typed. When you are done, just press ok to save the contact. Also at this time, this beautiful phone does not read out loud text messages right now as far as what I have found out when I tested it. But that’s not a problem, because I am just getting started with my new beautiful phone, as well as my new servis with verizon wireless.
because I am a blind cell phone user, I am glad to finally have a phone that I can work with, rather than a sited person doing all this stuff for me.
The battery life.
The battery life is vary good, especially if you are not going to talk on it for a long time. I will say yes, 3.17 hours of talk time, and 190 hours worth of standby time. That is pretty good. If you have any questions on this review, and also questions on how I new that this phone was accessible for blind people, feel free to reply with some questions you sited users may have. Also feel free to post your own opinions on what you think of this review.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this beautiful phone 10 out of 10.

Resetting phone, and voice command prompts are still present
Reviewer: tim24 on Mon Jan 22, 2007
Hi everybody, this is my fourth post. I would like to say, if you go to troubleshoot this phone as far as battery charging issues witch I had, and if you reset this beautiful phone back to its factory default settings, the voice command prompts are still present. This is vary good for someone who can not see the screen, and wants to enable the announce mode feature on this beautiful phone, with out going through the menus just to do it! When I reset mine back to its factory default settings I simply pressed the voice command key expecting not to hear the voice command prompts like my previous Sanyo scp4930 was. But, the results were the following. I pressed the voice command key, and it said please say a command. I was like yes! No more enabling the voice prompt for this feature like I had to do on the Sanyo phone with sited assistance!
someone also said that this phone has battery charging issues. Please note that if your outlets in your home are not compatible with the lgvx4650 charger, you may experience problems. The charger has to fit firmly into the outlet; otherwise, it will not make the correct contact needed to charge this beautiful phone’s battery. To resolve this, plug the phone’s charger into a surge protector and then, plug the surge protector into the outlet. Hope this helps. It definitely worked for me. Just make sure it’s firmly in the surge protector’s outlet on the device itself, otherwise, it will not make the correct contact to the charger to charge the battery in the phone. Let me know if this helps.

LG VX4650
Reviewer: tim24 on Tue Jan 16, 2007
Oh! Forgot to mention, this beautiful phone also has a voice command for voice mail. you simply say voice mail. The phone will tell you that you have 1 or 2 new voice mails waiting for you. call voice mail now? you can say yes, or no. If you say no, the phone will say, end of voice commands. Another beautiful feature of this beautiful lgvx4650 is thee ability for it to tell you that you have 1 or 2 mist calls after the caller hangs up, or the phone call goes to voice mail. Again, this beautiful feature is only available when this beautiful phone is in announce mode. There is one more way to get to this option. Press menu, voice, sound modes, then select announce mode, and highlight on or off. When on, the phone will tell you out loud that you have a new voice mail waiting for you, as well as how many calls you mist. This is vary useful if the blind cell phone user, like myself and others, can not see the phone’s LCD display. For thoughs of you that are sited, and have this phone, take time to study its beautiful accessibility features and try them out. Let me know what you think. I’m sure you have a blind son or daughter who has this phone, but don’t know about it’s beautiful benefits for a blind person yet.

the beautiful phone
The beautiful lgvx4650 is a beautiful phone that is vary accessible for blind people like my self who require text to speech. I just got this phone in November, 2006. I moved from Qwest to Verizon wireless because qwest did not have what I was looking for. For thoughs of you that can see the screen, and still have this phone here are some things it offers for blind people.
1. anounceing who’s calling. If you have the phone’s announce mode set to on, each time a new call comes in, the phone will announce call from the person’s name if you have them in your contacts, or digets of the caller. Stadis of signal strength. The phone will provide a read out of your signal strength in bars and battery level. And, when you press menu, the phone announces main menu.
There are 2 ways to activate announce mode.
Press the left voice command key and say announce. The phone will say, announce mode activated. Or press the left voice command key again. But this time, scroll to that option. Note. The phone will announce the command you are scrolling to. When you scroll to announce mode, press ok. The phone will say, announce mode deactivated. Also this phone can help blind people add a contact entry by a voice command as well. Ever since I have gotten this phone over the Sanyo scp4930, I can do more things than what I could not do on the Sanyo phone.
I would recommend this beautiful phone to any blind person who’s looking for a cell phone that has good accessibility and holds a charge.

For those who don't READ the VX4650 manual.
Reviewer: tngu77 on Thu Feb 16, 2006
1. First of all, this LG VX4650 rocks!
2. There IS a VIBRATE ONLY function; hold down the star (*) key (when flip open) or hold down the down key to the side (when flip closed).
3. The reception is SECOND TO NONE. I have been on I-10 (from Jacksonville, FL to Los Angeles, CA) and other parts of the country (VA, NY, GA, and TX) with this phone and I have crystal clear coverage throughout (4-6 bars out of 6 bars) in most cases. My phone sounds clear as a bell even at 1 bar!
4. Speakerphone? Outstanding. Clear as a bell.
5. Driving mode is very decent.
6. The only thing I don't like is the battery life. Battery life is approximately just over 3 hours. Recommended: Buy an extra battery and/or "extended life" battery.

not a bad phone
Reviewer: THEFSD on Mon Feb 27, 2006
In most of North and South Carolina as well as Georgia (i.e. the river styx), I've had crummy Verizon signal (Motorola, Kyocera, and LG). But, I've noticed something great with this phone. In speaker mode, I get an extra 1-2 (usually one) bars of signal strength! This is great cos I can finally get calls inside my apartment. I don't like not being able to quickly go to silent mode (kyocera 2325) or a seperate vibe function. Also the menu just looks funny (not bad, just odd), but you can't always like EVERYthing about a phone. The driving mode is freakin' great. I think that this a good phone if you drive alot. the speaker phone can sit a foot away from you and it picks up just fine. After three horrible phones, I'm finally content with one! YAY!

Vibrate Mode
Reviewer: alice89 on Tue Jun 27, 2006
Actually, there is a vibrate mode on this phone.
I'm not sure, but i don't think it's in the manual. It is visibile on the phone though. The star (*) button on the phone has a very small picture of a vibrate mode on it just above the word shift (used for text messages).
-To activate the vibrate mode, hold down the star button.
-Or-
-When the phone is closed, hold down the volume button on the side of the phone.
To disable the vibrate mode, just hold down either of those two buttons a second time.

LG VX4650
Reviewer: Rich215 on Tue Jan 09, 2007
Now after taking the phone to a Verizon service center 2 times.......these phones are fine!
Problem was.....the batteries. They replaced 3 batteries for free!!! (alittle loud complaining got that).
The service worker took out the batteries out of 3 phones and then told us.. "see this little area between the contact points.....it's colored pink". She then went on to tell us that this showed proof of water damage ???? None of the 3 phones was ever exposed to water of any kind. At that point one of us said...."WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??????? We went back and forth with the technition then after 5 minutes she then took them to her manager. She came back to tell us they would replace the batteries for free.
I think the pink color the little sensor now showed, meant that the battery was damaged due to overcharging. I try to always charge mine as directed....charge when dead...and take off when screen says charge is done. My battery was just slightly pink and white. The other 2 batteries were bright pink. Those two were from the users that always left the phone to charge overnight. That is too long! You have to take the charger off when the charge is complete, which is about 2.5 to 3 hrs from a dead battery. The charger and phone do not have a "peak charge sensor" to stop the flow to the battery. So the battery memory is shortened and internal chemicals are damaged with "junk corrosion".
I will have to contact LG directly and try to find out about this pink sensor deal and see if I can get an answer to the statement of "water damage" from the local service technition.
I really like this phone. It does exactly what I want!

Never had a Problem
Reviewer: ozodn on Fri Jul 07, 2006
This phone is great! Very sturdy and always a decent reception. In my area in the Puget Sound area in Wa there are only three dead spots that I know of and its only because of cell tower location and topography. My previous phone was a god-awful Kyocera SE-47 Slider, hard to use, VERY small buttons and the screen was easily scratched when putting and taking it out of your pocket due to it being a slider instead of the classic clam-shell. Both phones had the same vibrate button, only the SE-47 was on the POUND # key instead of the * like the LG. given the icon on the button I didn't need an explaination from the manual as to what the button did. I also really like the Vibrate and High feature when I'm driving around, if the music in the car is low enough I can hear the ringer, if not I can feel the vibrate mode too. GREAT feature. I charge my phone nightly and unplug it right before I get to work, even after a good 2hrs of talking I'll still have one bar of battery power left. The only gripes I have about this phone is the speaker itself for speakerphone, after about a month of using it on a medium volume setting the sound quality went to hell, its very hard to even understand what someone is saying. I also miss the feature on the SE-47 of having a Stop-Watch, the LG does have a quick timer but its not like the SE-47. I also don't like the lack of features but given its age and also the price (free upgrade) I can't really complain. I've wanted to get one fo the new Samsung Sch-A930's so I can carry around Mp3s but this phone is too durable and works too flawlesly for what I need to get rid of it. I don't know what the heck these other guys are doing with thiers who have complaints, maybe their phones are just lemons... who knows, but mine works great and I'd reccomend it to anyone who wants a basic phone that works really well and holds a charge.

LG 4650 or LG 4700
Reviewer: CIT on Sat Dec 03, 2005
Renewed a Verizon contract and received 2 of these phones. The phone is a hit with my son who uses one. I use mine for business. I find I cannot use mine or his in our basement, where we used a motorola flip phone and previous LG model on our last contract. We have a cabin in Minnesota with a tower 1-2 miles away. The reception shows 3-4 bars, but we have lots of deadspots and dropped calls, as well as people saying they get a recording when they try to call. We are on an extened roam with verizon when at the cabin. My only conclusion is it must be the phone. The previous two phones worked fine. This phone has a fixed arial, the previous two phones had arials that could be extended.

my last lg phone
Reviewer: zoobio on Mon Nov 21, 2005
Two phones ago I had an LG phone. It wasn't great, but I missed my old Nokia phone. After it started emitting an extremely high frequency whine into my ear, I trashed it and got a Nokia 3589i phone. Though it was a bit bigger and not at all sexy, it worked much better than my old LG phone. Well, this year, my wife and I each purchased an LG VX 4650 phone for 3 reasons: tri-mode capability (becoming hard to get), it didn't have a camera (can't use at work), and because it had a speakerphone. I looked on line for reviews before buying, and they were very positive. Unfortunately, those reviewers do not seem to know a good phone. This phone is absolutely horrible. Neither my phone nor my wife's phone can hold a call in anything but the strongest of signal areas. The display frequently lists full strength but then has intermittent audio and frequent dropped calls. I can use my Nokia 3589i (I kept it for a 3rd phone) in all the areas that I cannot use the LG VX4650. It is very frustrating, and now that I have had it for a month, I can no longer take it back. I strongly recommend against this phone. You will be miserable unless you live and use it right next to a tower.

LG VX4650
Reviewer: lm1430 on Mon Sep 12, 2005
After 7 years of using the same Motorola Sprint phone, I decided to switch to Verizon. I payed an extra fee to purchase this phone and after only 2 weeks, I have given up and I am returning it for another brand.
The phone will go dead (even in a 4 bar area) on almost every call I make. Several friends with LG phones and a Verizon representative have told me that this is a common problem. This is not a reception problem, this is a problem internal to the phone.
I love the menu layout and the backlight on the phone; however, this does not make up for the horrible reception and the phone going dead on every call.

Not Good
Reviewer: hoppus on Fri Jun 09, 2006
I purchased two of these phones, one for myself and one for my 89 year old Mother. The phones constantly drop calls, fade in and out, and generally provide poor service. This is my Mom's first cell phone (and her only phone service), and she is willing to fork out serious money to get rid of it and get a phone that's reliable.

Love it
Reviewer: jasminec on Tue Jul 12, 2005
I absolutley love this phone. It is not only easy to use, but the buttons are easy to push, and there are plenty of options.
My old phone wasn't worth using where I live due to the reception. But the 4650 picks up and I can use my cell now.
I highly recommend it!!!!

LG VX4650
Reviewer: hawaiianson on Tue Nov 22, 2005
I like the LG VX4650. Despite not having a camera, so far it has performed very well for me. I have not experienced 'dropped calls' as stated in other posts but then, I just got the phone in early November 2005. Being a little deaf, I like the fact that the ring tones is loud enough where I'm able to hear it. The color screen is nice and it's also great that I'm able to adjust the font size so that I'm able to see the numbers while dialing. Speaker phone operation is great (can even communicate with the screen panel in the closed position), and driving mode feature is awesome. Besides not having a camera, I'm disappointed that there isn't a "Vibe" mode only when opting to silence the ringer. I don't like the "Vibe & High" option when attempting to be discrete in certain situations. The only way to be discrete is by placing the phone in silent mode, but then I'd always miss calls because I can't tell when calls are coming in. The inner color screen is a little too small whenever I'm playing my Solitaire game, and am forced to use my glasses while doing so. All in all, the VX 4650 is a good phone for the price. My only gripe is not having a vibration mode when trying to be discrete.

Phone is garbage
Reviewer: halecj on Mon Jan 16, 2006
All because of the simple fact there is no vibrate only function.
Volume options are:
Silent
Low
Med Low
Med
Med High
High
Vibrate & High <--wtf??
If you have it on high volume, what good is vibrate supposed to do for you?
If you want it to vibrate to alert you of a call, why do you need any volume?
Don't buy this phone if you can help it.

beautiful phone still going strong after a year
Reviewer: tim24 on Fri Mar 21, 2008
The beautiful lgvx4650 phone is still going strong after a year. I've had the phone since November 2006 and 2007. But after my contract I’m going to get a new phone that is screenless and that is fully designed for the blind or low vision. This phone has vary good reception in area's where I have used it. Thee only thing I have noticed is that when you are on a call, it tens to get hot while in use, but it cools off after your done talking on it. So, in conclusion, if you are a blind cell phone user just starting out I would recommend the lgvx8350, because it has more menu announcements than the 4650, but it does not read text messages. But it will get you started in the right direction towards an accessible cell phone.
