The new generation of color screens. LG released the VX6000 to become the flagship model for Verizon Wireless. The clamshell design has both internal and external displays for easy viewing. An internal 262k TFT color screen, and an external rolling OEL screen.
Other features include CMX-MIDI polyphonic ring tones, and a built-in 640 x 480 pixel CMOS camera, voice activated dialing, and Get It Now service. The VX6000 is released to compete in the high end cellular phone market.
Perhaps the biggest drawback with the VX6000 is beyond its control. LG designed this phone specifically for Verizon's CDMA network, incompatible with all other networks. But if you're a loyal Verizon subscriber, the you will want to read this review.
If you haven't committed to a service plan yet, then you might want to see what Verizon newest phone has to offer. So read on and see all the pros and cons from our review. This just may be the phone you've been looking for.
Design
The LG VX6000 is Verizon Wireless's flagship model. Unlike GSM phones, the VX6000 was specifically design to work with Verizon's CDMA network. This phone is incompatible with other CDMA networks.
CDMA varies with GSM and TDMA fundamentally based on how voice is transmitted through the airwaves. The inherent technical properties of CDMA makes voice quality more resistant to interference and noise. That results in cleaner and clearer voices.
The VX6000 voice quality is much better than GSM phones. It has to do more with the technology and service rather than to phone itself. But regardless, superior nonetheless.
So if CDMA is the better technology why didn't it take off? Well, simply put, because the rest of the world already had already settled on a standard. GSM's appeal was its ability to store customer information on a SIM card. So swapping phones was effortless. With Europe and Asia firmly embracing GSM, CDMA came too late and was always the minority. So the VX6000 is not compatible when outside the Verizon network. To many this may not be what they are looking for. If a world phone is needed, then GSM is the way to go.
From a hardware perspective, the VX6000 is stunning. With color internal and external screens, the VX6000 is sure to be a hit. As for ring tones, the phone is CMX 3.0 compliant. Midi files can to be converted to 16 bit mono wav and used for ring tones. As opposed to midis which is like storing a sheet music of notes to play. By using wav files, VX6000 has the ability to not only play music, but use voices, or real music from CDs.
Additionally, with the popularity of built-in cameras on cellular phones, the VX6000 does not disappoint. In a market filled with camera phones, the VX6000 is the first one to be released on the Verizon network. A built-in 640 x 480 pixel, 330k pixel resolution, CMOS camera is attached to the back. The camera as a whole performed well, but where it really shines is the versatility of the functions. In addition to a 4X digital zoom, the phone also comes with a wide variety of image adjusting filters and tools. And for the playful side, custom frames to add to your photos are available too.
So with all the great features what's not to like about the VX6000? Well... for one, the difficulty in sending content to your phone. Verizon has made it very difficult to transfer files from a PC to the VX6000. Coincidentally, it is extremely easy to use the built in BREW platform to download Verizon's online content... at a fee. Undoubtedly, people that buy this phone want to take advantage of all the colors and multimedia features. And if you want to customize it, it's going to take a couple bucks.
Another thing to consider is that the VX6000 does NOT have analog. It only runs on digital CDMA 800 / 1900 bands. So if you do frequent traveling to rural areas and use analog, then this will be a big setback.
Screen
Probably the first thing that caught your eye was the impressive seven-line 262k TFT color display. Many phones on the market are just releasing 65k color screens, when 4096 colors is still considered mainstream. But 262k colors is in a league of its own. Pictures does not do it justice.
Another plus is the TFT screen. TFT, as opposed to STN, has the circuit transistors placed on the glass at the pixel location instead of the need to scan the pixel location. This results in greatly increasing the response time and allows for very fast refresh rates. It comes in handy when playing action packed games, where fast refresh rates are needed.
The VX6000 also comes with a 96 x 38 pixel external organic electroluminescent (OEL) display. OEL displays were developed to consume less power than traditional displays. On the screen, you'll find the time, battery strength information, network signal indicators, along with caller ID and message icons when you have a call or message. Also, along the top of the screen a cool three color dot scrolls across the screen.
Controls
Overall LG designed a traditional keypad. Key spacing and ease of use when typing is excellent. On the side of the phone is a dedicated camera button, and two soft keys for additional controls.
One problem that was encountered with the keypad was the illumination. The VX6000 has a 7 second keypad light. When typing in the dark this isn't long enough for those situations when you fumble with the phone, and there is no way to change the delay settings.
Lastly, the VX600 includes a 4 way keypad for navigation. It's similar to all the other phones' keypads. Nothing LG could have really done to make it any different.
Battery and Charger
A lithium-polymer 950mAh battery is used with the VX6000. LG claims the battery will work for 2.5 hours of talk time and 110 hours of standby, however those numbers are maximum times. Realistically the times are much lower at two hours of talk time and seven days of standby.
When reading our reviews, you should view the test results of mobile-phone battery talk time and standby time as relative information only. Many variables, including carrier signal strength at your location, signal consistency (including incoming and outgoing calls), display and ringer settings, and battery charging methods and history, will affect performance.
When handset manufacturers and mobile phone carriers list talk-time and standby-time ratings, they usually include disclaimers about variable performance and often refer to the times they publish as maximum times. Some quote expected battery life ranges, and in this case you're probably safe to assume you'll experience at least the minimum rated range.
Note that manufacturers of dual-mode digital and analog handsets publish battery-life rates for both digital and analog modes, as analog mode consumes much more power than digital mode.
Storage
The VX6000 comes with an 1.6 MB of internal memory for storing pictures, ring tones, text messages, and games.
This is an average amount of storage. Nothing like the 5 MB in some Nokias, but not 500 KB like some other phones. There's enough room to store a few of games, backgrounds, and ring tones comfortably. But if you tire of the same thing, expect to clean out your phone from time to time.
Since the memory is dynamic, you can share memory between your ring tones, pictures, and games.
Connections
The VX6000 has a data cable attachment accessory for transferring files to your phone. Aside from that, transferring through WAP is the only other way possible. since the VX6000 doesn't have an infrared port or Bluetooth.
It seems that not many phones specifically made for North American markets have infrared capabilities. More so with CDMA than GSM, and espeically Verizon for that matter. It's very convenient that these service providers also provide an easy no hassle way to purchase multimedia with the few presses of a button.
Either way, expect to pay a few dollars to use the full benefits of the 262k color screen. There are ways of getting content off websites, but it's tedious for a reason.
Camera
Verizon claimed that their subscribers sent over 1 million picture messages the first month the feature was introduced. Due to the widely popular success of the launch, Verizon's flagship model, the VX6000 introduced a great camera phone
The VX6000 has a built-in CMOS camera. Although the resolution of the pictures are only 330k pixels, it comes packed full of options and features.
The number of camera options is amazing. For starters, you can get up close shots from far away with the 4x zoom in feature. If you want to take a self portrait of yourself to send to someone, there's a self timer. Add an artsy feel to the photos by using the built-in filters to add effects. Or adjust the image by changing the brightness, white balance, or resolution. Lastly, put fun frames around your pictures. The VX6000 comes with 5 preinstalled frames. For example, you can frame your friend's head on a strongman's body. If you get tired of them, upload custom frames for more versatility.
The VX6000 can take multiple shots at once too. The multishot feature allows you to take multiple pictures without interruption. However, if you put the resolution on high, you cannot take 5 or 3 simultaneous shots, the maximum is 2.
Overall the capabilities of the camera are very impressive. Perhaps the only thing missing that could have made it even better was a flash. But we're not complaining.
Contacts
The Contacts Menu is straightforward. The VX6000 has 500 phone book memory locations where you can store up to 5 phone numbers of up to 48 digits.
Store phone numbers as Home, Office, Mobile, Page, Fax, or None. Assign caller rings, or up to 99 names to speed dial.
The VX6000 also has a dynamic search. Dynamic search compares entered letters against the entries in the phone book and then displays a matching list in descending order.
Recent Calls
Allows you to view a list of the last phone numbers or Phone Book entries for calls you placed, accepted, or missed. It is continually updated as new numbers are added to the beginning of the list and the oldest entries are removed from the bottom of the list.
Messages
The messaging capabilities of the VX6000 are very good. Send and receive SMS, email, and chat messages. Add voices and pictures to messages. Other places claim the VX6000 has MMS. However, this is not MMS. The VX6000 uses QCP audio format and the pictures aren't framed in SMIL documents when text messages are sent. True MMS uses wav or amr sound formats. Compatibility issues arise when sending or receiving true MMS messages from other devices.
The VX6000 allows you to type quickly with T9 predictive text. Enter the first couple words and the VX6000 will predict what you are trying to type. Or if you're used to the old way, you have the option of using the much slower, ABC and 123 formats.
The VX6000 has a strong set of messaging features. It has what all phones nowadays are expected to have. And outshining the competition is difficult to do, aside from a built-in QWERTY keypad.
However, Verizon limits the VX6000's full messaging potential by forcing you to use their network to access email, and send picture messages among other things. If you're a novice or casual user, then this won't matter to you. But if you're a gadget loving person that knows the ins and outs of everything you own, these restrictions may be a drawback.
With Verizon's getALERTS and getTXT users pay 10 cents per message sent and 2 cents for each message received. Or choose bundled pricing options of $2.99 per month for 100 text messages and text alerts, $3.99 per month for 200 text messages and text alerts or $7.99 per month for 600 text messages and text alerts sent and received.
Get It Now
Get It Now allows you to do more than just talk on your phone. It is a technology and service that allows you to download and use applications on your phone. With Get It Now, it is quick and easy to personalize your phone to your lifestyle and tastes. Just download the applications of software available. from ring tones to games, and productivity tools. You can be assured that you can find something entertaining. Plus there are consistently new applications being created for your use.
You can download applications and use Get It Now anywhere on the Verizon Wireless network. getIM, getEMAIL and getBROWSING are $4.99 monthly access, plus airtime. Download charges for getTONES, getGAMES, getGOING, getPIX and getFLIX vary by application and airtime charges apply when browsing, downloading and using certain applications.
Most applications do not use a network connection while in use. While downloading an application, any incoming calls will automatically be sent to your voicemail.
Mobile Web
The MiniBrowser lets you view internet content via VZW with MSN. Access and selections within this feature are dependent upon your service provider. Web Messages displays a list of any browser messages. Prompt allows you to specify whether you want the phone to display warning prompts while using the MiniBrowser.
My Media
The My Media Menu stores all your backgrounds and pictures. Browse through to choose which ones to display as your background or incoming ring tone.
Tools
The VX6000 comes with some handy applications. The Calendar with Scheduler allows you to store appointments and tasks much as a standard organizer works.
With the Voice Memo, you can record short messages to remind yourself of tasks to do. One cool note: It's possible to record your own voice, music form a CD, or any other input source and use it as your ring tone. All you have to do is send the recorded voice file as a picture message to yourself and save it on the phone.
My Shortcut lets you set your own custom shortcuts for easy access. Other applications like the Notepad, Calculator and World Clock are self explanatory and straightforward.
Settings
Perhaps where most of the feature of the VX6000 lie. The Settings Menu allows you to access and change all the features of the phone.
The Sounds and Displays is where you can select how the VX6000 sounds and looks. Ring tones are CMX MIDI format and wallpapers for the phone are 120 x 160 pixels. In addition you can customize the look of the menu structure by changing font sizes, selecting one of five color schemes, or viewing menus in either icon or list menu style.
To get more wallpaper or ring tones, Verizon has BREW platform technology. BREW allows users to use the Get It Now feature to download content at up to 230.4 kpbs. Most applications are subscription based and run on average anywhere between $3-5. The BREW platform also functions as a gaming client. BREW games can also be purchased and downloaded. What BREW brings is the convenience of getting applications without having to navigate through WAP at the expensive of a view extra dollars. Depending if you're inexperienced or an expert, BREW could make your life easier or be a pain.
The VX6000 has the ability to function as a modem also. Connect a laptop to it and use the phone to send faxes or connect you to the internet. A LG1200 data cable and Verizon Dialer software is required for the connection.
Voice Services has many great features too. The VX6000 has voice dialing. Just record the voice dial command and save it. Train Words lets the phone learn how you talk. So it knows when you're issuing a voice command and when you're just talking. The Answering Machine saves your message when you're not around. But a great feature is you can listen in on the person while the phone is recording, just like a real answering machine. That way you can screen your calls before you pick up.
Sound Quality
The LG VX6000 has excellent sound quality. The frequency ranges were balanced and incoming and outgoing voices had sufficient clarity and accuracy. Overall no major complaints.
RF Performance
As for RF performance, the VX6000 does a good job too. Inherently, CDMA has better noise resistance than other technologies such as GSM, and TDMA. The way the voice is transferred though the air is less susceptible to interference than the other forms of multiplexing. So whether it's the actual hardware that's superior, or just the technology is unclear. However, overall the VX6000 has very good RF performance.
One thing should be noted. The VX6000 is an all digital phone, and hence no analog. Thus, the VX6000 will be unusable in rural areas where analog is only present . If you are on the road a lot and travel between major cities, then the lack of analog on the VX6000 will need to be considered.
Pros
- Brilliant 262k TFT color screen. When other manufacturers are putting out 4096 and 65k color phones, LG blows the competition away.
- Ring tones that are wav files. Record your own ring tone from an audio source. The possibilities are endless.
- Built-in digital camera and bundled features. 4X zoom, brightness and white balance image adjustments, custom frames, and more.
- Great reception and clarity. CDMA is by far superior in terms of voice quality.
- Get It Now. For non-tech savvy consumers, a one touch way to get pictures, ring tones, games, and more, but at a price.
Cons
- No infrared port. Difficult to transfer files from computer to phone. The only way is through a data cable accessory sold separately.
- The LG VX6000 relies heavily on Verizon's network. getIM, getEMAIL, getBROWSING, getTONES, getGAMES, getGOING, getPIX, getFLIX, etc. Pay for downloading games and applications, sending and receiving email and picture messages, and more. You get the idea.
- Keypad backlight times out after a few seconds. Makes it hard to type in the dark.
- Below average talk and standby time. The 262k screen and camera sucks a lot of juice. So consider getting an extended battery with the phone.
- Don't expect to revert to analog if you don't have digital service. Avoid rural areas.
Conclusion
LG has outdone the competition with the 262k TFT color screen. Perhaps the most important feature of a cellular phone, next to reception. Pictures cannot do the VX6000's screen justice. The clarity and brightness of the screen is unrivaled.
Additionally, the ability to record your own wav files as ring tones beats any number of simultaneous polyphonic tones. Record your own voice, part of a song, or anything else. Your phone will never sound like anyone else's.
The built-in digital camera is also excellent. By comparison to the Nokia 7250, and Sony Ericsson T610, the VX6000 was sharper. However has a more unnatural blue tint when outdoors. Regardless, the filters and features easily make this a great camera phone.
Lastly, the reception and clarity is exceptional. As said earlier, CDMA has something to do with it, but the VX6000 has good RF performance as well.
If we stopped right here the VX6000 would be a winner. An unmatched color screen, great ring tone versatility, excellent camera, and clear reliable reception. However, there are some drawbacks as well.
All the features come at a price. The color screen, camera, and applications have a large drain on the battery. Thus, the talk and standby times are less then industry average. If you get this phone consider buying an extra extended battery as well.
Verizon has integrated the VX6000 tremendously in it's network. Anything you want to do, whether it be sending messages and pictures, email, or downloading pictures and ring tones costs a small amount. Granted, one benefit is that you don't have to search the web for downloads, and everything is one touch away. But for many, it can get quite costly if you want to use the VX6000 to its full potential.
But probably the most severe drawback is the lack of analog. That means you might not get reception in remote areas. If you use analog frequently, then this is not the phone for you.
Overall the VX6000 is a good solid phone. Reception, color screen, ring tones, and built-in camera are the main features that are important in a cellular phone. The drawbacks are more annoyances than factors that severely hinder the phone. ♦

Solution for All Your Problems
This phone isn't that bad. But there's a lot of fixes you may not be aware of.
Ok, lets start off the with settings for the LCD screen. You can't keep it on forever the longest is 3 minutes. But when it turns off and you want to see what time it is you can press any of the outside buttons.
It will turn back and then off for however long you've set the timer for. And also if you want the date while the LCD screen is on press the volume key once and you should get the date and no if you press them while the phone is closed you wont change the volume.
Instead of changing your phone from "normal mode" to "manner mode" or "Silence all" while the phone is open you can do it by pressing and holding the little button under the volume key.
Now about silenceing calls while the phone is ringing. If the phone is ringing and you just want to silence it not send it directly to your voicemail press the volume key once, if you want to send it directly to your voicemail press it twice. I'll be glad to answer any other questions about this model anytime.

Great Phone, But Stopped Ringing
I have read every post on this site. My husband got me LG VX6000 when they first came out. I LOVE this phone. I never had any problems with it except to buy a battery a couple of times, and yes the charger that you slide the phone in to won't always connect, so I got a traveling charger that plugs in to the wall and viola! It was great and no fuss.
But just a couple of months ago it quit ringing. Of course this phone hasn't been made in a while and Verizon said they don't have parts for it and can't fix it, so I had all my stuff downloaded into my husband's (recently deceased) phone and it's a Voyager. Suppose to be the greatest thing on this earth. But more than a few times I heard him swear at it.
Well, I hate the Voyager with a passion. I'm now looking to see if I can send my cell phone off to have it repaired. It had everything I wanted (camera quality could be a tad better, but it was good for it's time) and LG VX6000 is very simple to use.
If my phone can't be repaired I'm looking for another LG (Ive now had 3) and a flip phone, but not a Venus, as my daughter has that one and she's more adept than I am when it comes to cell phones and she hates the Venus.

My battery after 2 years is not doing so well. I u
My LG VX6000 and I have had an awesome span of 2 years together. I've never had a problem with service, calls were rarely dropped and I always recieved my text messages and voicemails.
I have dropped my phone numerous times on cement, in the dirt, on wooden floors, you name it and I probably dropped my phone on it. It actually has few scratches and works perfectly! I've even gotten my phone wet. It is a tough phone.
My battery after 2 years is not doing so well. I used to be able to talk for hours on my phone and still have stand by for days but now it doesn't seem to go as far. My plan is finally up after 2 years and I'm upgrading.
I'm sad to have to end my relationship with my phone but its time to move on for the both of us. Of course I'm sticking with the LG name. I trust LG my mother and my brother have both had several LG phones and they too have had good experiences with them. Tomorrow I am expecting the arrival of my new phone, but I will always remember my LG VX6000 as my first cellphone.

The worst phone I ever had
I had a VX6000 for a grueling 2 years. So many times I was willing to pay the full price for a new phone but miraculously it survived to the end of the two year contract.
I can't recall any calls that were made or received that completed without at least one drop. When my wife upgraded hers to a Motorola, we would be riding along in the car. Her phone would have a full signal, I would have no service.
Also, it went through a phase where it would reset power on it's own in the middle of a call. It still does that from time to time.
Verizon wouldn't touch that because of the moisture sticker scam. Nobody thinks to check it when they buy it. It was probably pink from the start. What a waste of silicon and plastic!
I just upgraded my phone today. I feel like a great curse has been lifted from me. After I get the contacts out of my VX6000, I am searching for interesting ways to take all of my lost call agression out on my vx6000. Here is what I have so far: Hammer, Sledgehammer, under the wheel of a 30 ton fire truck, a fire house bonfire (in june), jaws of life (28,000 pounds per square inch at the tip), use it as a baseball. Suggestions are welcome!

It's a decent phone
I got my refurbished LG vx6000 in february, like 3 weeks after dropping my Samsung a670 in the toilet (smooth..)
I wasn't too excited with the scrolling clock display, and the fact that it wasn't a color LCD screen. But the more I see it the more I like it.
The first couple weeks with this phone were great. I got less dropped calls, I was so excited that I could change the theme colors, and it's easier to flip open compared to my old phone.
I barely had my phone for less than a month, and one day I pull it out of my pocket to find that the hinge broke off. It would click and pop out when I tried to open and close it. I saw that there was a piece of the hinge that would bend when I'd close it, and two days later that piece broke off.
Now the right hinge of my phone is completely broken, and I have to be SUPER carefull not to drop it. So far I've only dropped it once and the other hinge almost broke off too.
I also have to be carefull about using my phone in the rain. I've read reviews about this phone being "ridiculously sensitive" to water damage, so I'm trying to be as cautious as I can.
Despite the broken hinge and water sensitivity, I'd say this is a decent fone. Mine still works perfectly fine with a broken hinge and all, but it seems to me that it's a fragile phone and its users need to be carefull when they use it.

This phone rocks!
I have had this phone for over a year and it still is in perfect condition. All the people who are complaining about water, listen up! If you don't want the phone to suffer water damage, don't get it wet!
I love this phone, I could never get a new one.
It is sturdy and good-looking. If you hit a button on the side it goes into silence, if you hit it again it ignores the call. This is not complex!
If I had to pick a drawback, it would be that the phone changes modes (Normal Mode, Manner Mode, Silence All) if you hit and hold a certain button on the outside of the phone. Other than that the phone is amazing. I highly recomend it.

LG VX6000
My dad purchased a LG VX6000 on 12-6-03 from Verizon after using a Kyocera QCP for two years. Well, after his two year contract was up he got a LG VX7000 and kept the VX6000 for a phone book.
After my Samsung a650 screen started to burnout with me doing nothing to it (no dropping it, water damage) Verizon said it would be about three to fourhundred buck for a new one, or if we had an older phone we could reactivate it and use it.
So my dad gave me the old vx6000 with 462 hours, 20 minutes, and 52 seconds of calls on it, and 7446 calls made on it. That's a lot. And still I have been using it all the time since January 3rd and I have no trouble with a signal on it, or having dropped calls.
For the most part, I think that the camera on it is pretty good along with the quality of it. Any phone that last that long and has gone through two extendied Li-Ion batterys and still works great, has to be good.
The only bad thing that I would have to say is that when I set it on vibrate, when someone calls, it doesn't necessarily vibrate, it sounds like a chainsaw, and I think that it probably just worn out, but hey, what do you expect. Other than that, it's a great phone.

I've Had No Problems, Quite the Opposite Actually
I was camping in GA and accidently left this phone behind in a tree. It was two weeks before I could get back to it. The area had seen freezing rain during that time. I just assumed all was lost. When I finally got back to the phone I opened the face and it was still on and working fine.
Granted, I had a leather cover on it, but still, I could not beleive it was still work, let alone charged enough to make a call. I have had no problems with this phone before or since.
My only complaint is picture quality of the camera, though I have seen much worse. For the price of this phone, I have no hard complaints.

LG phones are horrible
I don't have a LG VX6000, but I do have an LG VX3200, I know i'm on the wrong page, but reading your problems about the VX6000, are the same problems i've been having with the VX3200, which makes me think that no matter what LG phone you have you're more than likely going to end up with the same problems no matter what.
My phone went into car kit mode, just like another member had.
I took it in to my dealer and they looked at the bottom of my phone and handed it back to me and said I had water damage and I would have to buy a new phone, (did I mention that they didn't open my phone and look at my battery?)
Afterwards I had my friend look at my phone and he ran his finger over the bottom charger of my phone and took out a piece of fuzz. My phone worked!
A couple months later it went back into car kit mode for no apparrant reason, i've had times when i've been trying to call someone, I wouldn't hear the phone ring but they could but yet neither of us would be able to hear each other, my provider won't do anything for me because they claim water damage (go figure).
i took my phone to another provider and they looked at it and said there's no way I have water damage because my battery hadn't changed colors. So now, i'm stuck with paying full price for a cell phone, which i'm going to have to save up for, but never again will I ever in my life buy any type of LG product.

Falls Apart
I have had the phone for about 18 months.
Very disappointed in VX6000 phone. I have had serious problems with dropped calls and now I have a bigger problem. The phone is falling apart at the hing between the screen and the keypad.
Verizon is my service provider and they won't replace or fix the phone for free. I have never had a phone that didn't last at least 2 years with normal use. This phone was not abused and I can't believe it would fall apart under normal use. I wonder if this fragile hinge has been a problem for other users.

Great Phone
I have had this phone for 2 years and it's been great! In a week I am getting a samsung vcast, but I have to admit im gonna miss this fone. I was amazed by the pictures, easy to navigate menu's, and the outer screens. I got it a while after it came out.
One thing i didnt like was it didnt have a speaker. But I have had some problems. Like everyone else, my phone went into carkit mode, and vzw said it was my battery. I think something is up about that. It was pink the night i got it!
Also, a few of my buttons actually almost stopped working! The menu button just doesn't work, so i cant answer text mesages. To go to a menu I usually press the picture button.
Also, just to dial a number with 2-5 i have t push really hard. I have had some problems with the battery. It used to be good, but now if i charge it all night, make five calls in the morning, it goes to three bars. Also you have to manuevor your fone onto the charger pins like a jet plane to start charging.
Well, I am going to miss this phone, and I won't forget it. In a 2 weeks, look for a review of the samsing a950.

Sound Quality Horrible
I have always hated the VX6000.
The sound quality is horrible on this particular handset, it was excellent on my other phone. I had gotten this phone in August 2004. Well it was on St. Patrick's day.
I had gotten mad at someone and I had too much pressure on the seam that holds the screen and the keypad together broke. The phone was physically in 2 pieces. I went to the store and they told me they would have to replace the phone thank god my parents had the insurance.
Well a few weeks ago it was raining out. I was running in from the rain and I had dropped my phone in the grass. About 30 minutes later I was looking for the phone the phone I was calling from my other cell (Cingular, Sony Ericsson T237) and I couldnt find it.
Well a member of the church came to me with my phone he asked if it was mine I replied yes. It was soaked and drenched. I immedietly took out the battery. I realized that the pink-Red water detector wasnt lit or faded.
The case saved my phone. Well Im planning on getting a VCAST phone next month. The cases may look ugly but they work!

Wow -- Best Phone Ever!
All the fuss about the VX6000. I own one and let me tell u the truth -- I have never had a better phone in my life.
The camara and graphics are unbelievable! The battery last for the whole day, then every night I charge it. So the battery has never been a conscion.
My phone has been exposed to minor moisture however the battery has not been a issue. It has been a great phone and I am not looking to get rid of it for quite some time. This phone is a must have! I love it!

This Phone Is Awful!
i have owned 4 cell phones previously, all with the same service provider, a nokia, a couple of motorolas, a Samsung and this one...
i won't spend much time describing you all my tribulations and headaches with this phone... I just want to save you time and tell you this is one of the worst phones ever made... DO NOT BUY IT!
First month service was great. Ever since reliability continues to decrease. Calls dropped constantly, will not receive texts or voicemails, battery life is extremely short. Everything about this phone sucks.

Fragile to Moisture
It was a nice phone, but it being ridiculously vulnerable to the slightest bit of moisture...
My 4 month old LG VX6000 died yesterday. The "Car Kit" indicator went on. I brought the phone back to Verizon. They pulled out the battery, showed me that the battery indicator was pink instead of white - and claimed that this proves it had been "exposed to moisture". They asked me if I had bought insurance with the phone (which I had not), and told me my warranty was void and I would have to buy a new phone at full cost.
I expressed that I had no idea where moisture came from other than perhaps a raindrop or two, perspiration or just plain humidity. Verizon basically said -- "too bad -- LG won't honor the warranty". I went home and looked at my daughter's phone which was bought at the same time. Although it is still working, its battery indicator is pink too. I suspect that it is only a matter of time until her phone dies and that Verizon / LG will likewise disclaim warranty on that phone.
I have seen several posts here and elsewhere about people with moisture problems on LG phones. I wonder how many other people have had similar experiences.
The phone is clearly designed to provide a "red flag" to enable Verizon and LG to deny responsibility under the warranty. We are not talking about a phone that was submerged or even dipped in water.
As a note, I have had Motorola phones in the passed that were actually "exposed" to water and continued to work! LG's moisture indicator is a racket and is set up to enable them to disclaim responsibility on their warranty!

Not a Great Phone
It was good at first. I liked the camera and general style of the phone.
But I had SOO MANY dropped calls... they dropped EVERYWHERE I live in a pretty populated area and they were dropped in my own home (and I dont have a land line) and everywhere else.
It got to be that I could rarely finish a phone call without it dropping. I could be standing somewhere and literally turn my head... and the call would drop (i'm not kidding) that was with Verizon wireless. I dont think it was just the carrier cause I didnt have that many problems with them... got some dropped calls but not as many as with the LG phone. Got so mad I switched to Tmo. not had a dropped call since.

No problems!
I have read many complaints here about the VX6000. I have owned the phone for 16 months and I haven't had half of the problems that people are reporting. For instance, the user who said that accidentally pressing the button on the side of the phone sends it to voicemail... that's just untrue.
If you accidentally press one of the exterior buttons on the phone while it is ringing (incoming) it silences the ringer but the call is still there and the caller still hears ringing. The only way to send it to voicemail faster is if you open the phone and press the "IGNORE" soft-key. You can only do this, of course, if your phone is not set to answer on flip open.
I am changing to the Samsun A670 now becuase I damaged my VX6000 and the insurance (Asurion) don't have any VX6000s in stock. I hope that this phone is as good.
The point is, the LG VX6000 is a good phone.
My biggest complaint -- my only real complaint -- is that after a while I guess the leads on the back of the battery (that contact with the leads on the cradle charger) must be getting dirty or damaged or something.
Sometimes I have to try 8 times or more to set the phone in the charger because everytime I put it in the light on the charger starts flashing - indicating that the connection isn't correct. Its a cradle. There is only one way to put the phone in. I shouldn't have such a hard time getting the connection right so the phone actually charges.

Lgvx600 vs Audiovox 8900
The LG VX6000 Camera phone with Verizon is awesome, especially when comapring it to the Audiovox 8900. The Lg6000 was rated #1 by consumer reports for all of the camera phones nationwide.
There are some differnces between the LG and the Audiovox camera phones. The Audiovox provides 300 pixels less than the LG VX6000. This is a huge differnce when comparing the quality of the picture. The outer screen on the Audiovox is a black and white / grey scale compared to the VX6000 which is color.
Although the Audiovox 8900 is tri-mode (where as the LG VX6000 is all digital) and has the speaker phone option, the LG VX600 is over all more, reliable, durable, and a better quality phone.
If you have any doubts, check out the Consumer Reports, Februrary Edition!
