Quality Phone, But Why Not Go With the VX8100?
Reviewer: RobertGoretsky on Mon Apr 09, 2007
It seems that LG has developed a habit of releasing a 'next-generation' phone, then a few months later, releasing an updated model that improves on it. This has happened most recently with the VX8600, followed a few months later by the VX8700.
This was the case with the VX8000. While it is an excellent phone in its own right, a few months after its release, the VX8100 was released, which improved on the one major deficiency of the VX8000 - its large size. The VX8000 is a bulky phone, although some may appreciate this due to the enhanced durability it provides -- I have dropped this phone hundreds of times without any issue! The VX8100 also features bluetooth, which is missing from the VX8000. If you don't have a choice between the 8000 and 8100, the 8000 is still highly recommended - it has a beautiful large screen, the speakerphone works great, and the battery life is excellent.

LG VX8000 REVIEW
Reviewer: cee-dubinaz on Tue Feb 15, 2005
OK, first let me just say that when I'm in the market for a new electronic product to purchase, I AM OBSESSIVE with my research. I check out all the editorial reviews, as well as user opinions, to make an informed decision. And if I can I'll talk to people that own the particular model I'm considering. That being said and done I now have had my LG VX8000 for about a week, and these are my personal findings. Please remember that what I consider a positive may/may not mean anything to you.
My criteria for selecting a phone were the following:
a Verizon phone - out here in AZ it's almost a requirement to be on big V, unless you want to have to stand on one foot leaning out the window to get marginal reception...I used to love my T-Mobile service out east.
Reception quality. If a sales rep tells you all phone reception under a particular carrier is the same, find another rep!
Batterylife. Otherwise, it's not an option!
Friendly user interface. Don't want to feel like I'm learning fluid mechanics just to save a number.
Speakerphone. Holding a phone to my ear for long periods of time gets old.
All the other features are nice, but I'd rather a cellphone to do well what it's intended to, make and receive calls. (Note: I've come to LOVE some of the bells and whistles that come with this phone)
That being said, here are my pros and cons, for MY taste.
PROS:
Good reception, so far. I've had a couple of calls drop on me, but I don't know of a phone/provider where this never happens. The calls are clear and loud.
Battery: Mine was defective, giving me only 1-1/2 hours of talk time. Should have been upwards of 3 hours! Verizon promptly sent me an extended for free! (Just got it today) I should be getting around 6 hours now. One of the best battery life's out there.
Ease of use: I've been a loyal Nokia fan for the last 5 years, mostly do to their ease of use. If Verizon had a decent Nokia selection I probably wouldn't even have considered another brand. However, I find this LG to be very easy to use and learn. 5 minutes and I had about 80% of the phone figured out.
Size: while many are turned off by this phones size, I happily trade off 'ultimate' pocketability for larger buttons. As I do most of my dialing with my largish thumb, this makes for less mistakes.
Speakerphone: Wow! As per other reviewers on various sites, you don't know what you're missing until you have a good speakerphone. This one is CRYSTAL CLEAR and LOUD. I rarely need to turn up the volume past medium. I hardly ever put the phone to my ear unless I need the conversation to be private. Don't think I'll ever need to use my headset.
Display: Large and clear. Has 2 displays. The exterior one is nice since you don't have to open the phone to see who's called or read text messages.
Camera: 1.3 megapixels - by FAR the best cameraphone out there. Resolution 1280x960 down to 160x120. Self timer, flash, white balance, file size, Iso settings (100-1600), macro, and night mode. But don't expect this to replace a decent digi-cam. low-light pics are marginal at best, and the flash range is only a couple of feet. But for daylight pics, whoo-haah!
Video: 15 sec video clips - smallish in size, but in a pinch works great.
Sound clips: can record up to 3 minutes.
Ring tones: Dismal choices on the phone, BUT you can record whatever you want and select it as one of your ringtones. I cornered my girlfriend and tickled her, recording her laughter. Now everytime she calls it puts a smile to my face. Unlimited possibilities here!
Picture ID: apparently quite a few phones have this feature, admittidly another nice option having a pic of your friend show up when they call.
AN OPTION I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH IS EVDO CAPABILITIES. I bought this phone for the pre-reqs listed before. Where I live they don't have that service yet for streaming video. But from what I've read it is a good experience if that's what you're looking for.
CONS:
Display tends to get washed out in full sun.
Can't answer the phone when closed, or use speakerphone.
Phone can open sometimes when on my belt.
No stopwatch function.
Can't archive text messages you want to save.
A bit large for a pocket. Makes the belt clip almost a necessity.
IN CONCLUSION:
This phone does a great job of the things 'I' want it to. While I've found that no product is perfect, this is a pretty good phone that I'm happy with. Now if big V only didn't nickel and dime you for everything...

I fell in love with this phone
Reviewer: G35Gurl on Mon Nov 28, 2005
I used to have Verizon service, and recently switched to Cingular. I had the LG VX8000 though and absolutely loved it. The camera took great pictures, and good video as well. I loved the big inside screen, and an outside LCD is a must for me, and this phone had that as well. I really liked that I could record whatever I wanted to as a ringtone:) I would have my friends say funny stuff and set it to their ringtone. Battery life was great, as well as reception. I live in an apartment and get really bad reception when at home, but with this phone you would never have known it!! I had tried using other cell phones in my apartment that wouldn't work at all, I actually used to have to go outside!!! But with this phone, was never a problem anymore. I ended up selling my phone on Ebay after I switched service providers, but the girl I sold it to was very happy adnd very impressed with it. I would say the only con about this phone was the retail cost of it. I mean if you're getting service with it, the cost isn't so bad, but I paid retail for the phone right after it came out, and it cost me about $400.00!!!!!
Good phone though:)

VX 8000 did a nice job for me
Reviewer: Digicoffee on Tue Jun 21, 2005
Hey Everyone,
I used this site quite a bit when researching my recent phone purchase so I figure I need to "give back" for everyone who is going through the same thing I was.
A little quick background... I was a Sprint customer for 6-7 years. Wife needed a new phone. Was going to buy her a new one at Sprint. Then mine broke and we needed two. Then I started contemplating providers and made the swith to Verizon for many reasons that aren't on topic here. I have been happily on Verizon for a few weeks now.
When I went in to buy my Verizon phones, I wanted the Motorola V710. They did not have it in stock, so I "tried out" the LG VX 8000 for a week (they have a 15 day trial period). All in all nice phone!
PROS:
Solid feel: The construction feels very quality and seems would last.
Gorgeous screens: Inside and out are customizable, bright and clear.
Interface: Easy and simple. Similar in feel to Samsung.
Camera: Took best photos I have seen on a phone.
Keys: Large, Well let. Good for big fingers.
VCast: Cool feature but pricey and not useful for me.
Web: Large screen, good browser (Openwave).
CONS:
Storage: No memory expansion.
Networking: No bluetooth.
Size: It's pretty bulky in the pocket.
Design: Kind of boring to look at.
Accessories: Not much out there yet (but it's new...).
Speakerphone: Seemed to be pushing the speaker to it's limits.
I only had it for a week, but would trade back to it if the Motorola doesn't work out. I have seen others comparing these two phones from Verizon. The Motorola V710 is better for me since it addresses the CONS of this phone. VCast is not something that I wanted either, altough the LG executes this feature well.
Anyone who buys this phone will likely be very happy with it, provided they have then pocket space to accomodate. Keep on eye on your bill with all of the extras you can do! VCast, Ringers, Wallpapers, Texting, etc - wow!

VX8000 was worth the wait!!
Reviewer: UltraD007 on Thu Feb 03, 2005
I got my LG VX8000 phone from Verizon Wireless on its 1st sale date 2-1-05 and I have been loving it since. The design is great. Kinda futuristic in a way. The main things I love are the huge screen thats inside which looks great, like a mini computer monitor, also the outside screen is nice too while able to see a wall paper, shoot a picture or control some functions without even opening it with great resolution too. The speaker phone is a great addition with nice sound to and from it. The video function is very nice. Took some nice 15 second clips to send family. The only thing that bothers me a bit is even though the 1.3 megapixel camera takes nice pictures, if its a moving object it will blur and after you press ok to capture a pic it will take the frame about 1 to 1.5 seconds after. Hopefully it wont ruin any great moments. The video shoots doesnt blur though. Same lens, oh well. But no matter, Im glad I waited and even though I dont have VCast availiable yet in my area I'll be ready and wont have to update my phone when it come here. I will keep this phone for a long time. But thats what I said when I got my VX 6000 early last year. Very Satisfied Customer

LG VX8000 ... WOW ...
Reviewer: FuzzyLogic on Wed Feb 23, 2005
I must admit that i'm a tech junkie. Anything that beeps, blinks, has a display or buttons I have to have it. If your like me than this is the phone for you.
I'm on a Verizon plan and opt'd for $15 extra per month to have unlimited internet access with the LG VX-8000. Believe me friend, once you start using this phone with it's broadband capabilities your gonna thank me if you opt for it as well simply because just about everything that's displayed on the phone while surfing the web has a price next to it to view or download.
So far i've downloaded a few apps and games. One game I have called Asphalt Urban GT is mind blowing. The 3d graphic capabilities of this phone have to be seen to be believed. So good infact i'm in the process of trying to hunt down a joystick accessory for the phone. I also d-loaded a game called Baulder's Gate which is a great RPG and it plays fantastic. When I show my friends and co-workers the game Asphalt Urban GT they say things like, "You have to be kidding me... that's insane!", and, "How much did you pay for this?".
This is also one of the only phones i've had that when the volume is at 90% it's too loud. Most phones your smashing volume up long after it's reached 100% potential. Also, the speaker phone mode when driving is simply perfection, no ear-bud cords for my anymore.
I'm very pleased with it as you can tell and I show it off every chance I get. I can use it to get my local weather forcasts in full video just like watching television or checking local movie listings then watching the movie's trailer in wide screen format, ( just hit the full screen button and rotate the phone 90 degrees ). Get one... you'll love it. Just make sure you can get unlimited internet access for a nominal extra fee.

8K MP3 Player
Reviewer: azdps on Thu Jul 07, 2005
I eat crow on saying that the 8K does'nt have an MP3 Player. Tech. it does'nt have a dedicated one, but following the directions from the guy who posted them at howards forum in th LG section you can do it, plus more. I've already loaded MP3 song's , Music Video's & more. You just have to also learn BitPim and have the right Drivers & Cable. You can't load much though, with a normal MP3 song at 128 bit.. that alone will take up in the MB's range, same w/ the Video's...just more yet, and rememmber the 8K only has 126 MG's to play w/. Compared to the upcoming 8100 that's pragging about it's 512 internal memory plus the unlimited amount, using the MMC cards that now day's go as high as 1 Gig. I do, however stand strong on my statement of LG's superb reception !

LG'S Reception bad ? Not ! Mp3 Player ? Where ?
Reviewer: azdps on Wed Mar 16, 2005
A: This is just my experience having/using 1- LG 4400, 1- LG 4500, 3- LG 7000's, 1- LG 8000 with the rest of my unit using them as well. Why would A State Law Enforcement Agency provide their officers with Equipment that is'nt proven and reliable, such as reception; the most important feature of a Cell device, expecially when you often rely on it in remote locals. Of cource, that's were it being CDML helps. Like I said, having a total of 6 LG Phones, 4 of them being different models yet, and using them on a daily basis, often in remote areas for the last 9 years, I can honestly say I have NOT lost one (1) call yet ! Yea, I know your saying, Yea, right. Your on a pipe dream ! But our Dept. keeps records of ALL communication Stats;- Land lines, Cell phones, Radio's. etc. And we are required to summit them to the FCC. I have their #'s for those who want to give them a call to check their breath for the same pipe scent. And as far as MP3 Player's...I'm not gonna call anyone a liar, it's just LG & VZW say the 8K does'nt have one. I'd pay the extra $ out of my own pocket for that feature, cause Big Brother is'nt going to. What I believe is, some of you "Scary smart" Cell phone guy's out there have figured out a way to some how make it work. By, the way, you guy's should be designing & working for the LG & VZW type who appairantly don't know how to empliment a true Version in the Phones. So if you guy's know the trick to get an MP3 Playing application on this Bad Boy, could you pass it on for us "less Cell Phone compedent" folks ? Speaking for myself, that is. Keep up the good work. We'll get the design WE want yet !
