LG VX8700 review
Reviewer: gp on Sat Apr 14, 2007
I've been using my new LG VX8700 for a few days now. It's a sleek stylish phone with a brushed alluminum finish that attracts attention.
The exterior does show some fingerprints, though not as bad as the VX8600. A soft pouch is included to help clean the smudges. The main display is sharp and very clear. The front display is effective, but minimal.
The overall sound quality is very good. The speakerphone can sound a bit tinny at high volume.
pros:
- sleek great looking phone
- camera and video work very good
- sharp crisp main display
- speakerphone has been improved since the VX8600
- familiar Verizon menus have an improved sharp look to them
- voice commands work effectively
cons:
- the charging port has a tiny cover on it that is cumbersome to open
every time to recharge, and the cover feels flimsy
(I bet the cover will break off soon)
- the microSD card slot is behind the battery !
to access the microSD card, one needs to remove the back cover
AND remove the battery, every time
(this is a big design flaw for someone accessing the card often)
- bluetooth file copy has been disabled
and Verizon Mobile Office cable is not available yet (hopefully soon)
So far, I am very pleased with the phone and I hope that I will get use to the charging port flaw .

I went through three of these phones before I got fed up
Reviewer: vzwt2 on Sat Jul 21, 2007
I got my first 8700 in May. A couple of days go by and I love my new phone. It looks tough with the brushed metal, it is easy to use, call quality is great, picture quality is amazing, it is small and fairly lightweight. All around the phone is fantastic until it happened. When I took a picture and tried to send it to a friend the phone just reset out of nowhere as soon as I began to type the text to go with the picture. When the phone powered up it didn't recognize my SD card until I shut it off and powered it up again . . . I thought it may just be a fluke. Fluke until it happened again a couple of weeks later. I went back to the store and told them of my problem so they gave me a new 8700. Almost a month goes by and this one does the same thing. I go back to the store, again, and they give me my third 8700. Apparently there is a software glitch that they are working on. I think maybe my SD card is the problem, right . . . I got a new SD. Two weeks go by and everything is good until the PHONE DID IT AGAIN! This time when I went back they let me switch phones to another model. I did not want to keep going through and setting up the phone options to my liking every two weeks. I was fairly disheartened about the whole thing. I went from the sleek yet tough 8700 to the brick known as the enV. If you can live with the software garbage then this is the phone for you . . . I just got sick of going back into the store with the same problem over and over again.

Earpiece Noise
Reviewer: LGVX8700 on Mon Apr 30, 2007
The phone is great except for the fact that the earpiece produces a significant buzz at medium to high volumes. I received the phone a week ago and just shipped it back today to exchange it.
Verizon tried to get me to accept a refurbished one, but since this is a brand new phone, they said they would go ahead and replace it.
Another significant drawback of the phone is the charging port. It doesn't fit as securely as even my Pantech (cheap crap) did when charging. This will be even more of a problem for your car charger, and comes out much too easily.
Other than that, I like the phone. Think they will probably revise some things for future models though.
