I have had this phone for just over a year now it works great where i am. On long island i have had great service every where. In some area of the city i had problems though, but my signal was strong throughout newjersey and pennsylvania. nut back to the phone it seems to be indestructable. I have dropped this phone into small puddles dropped it down the stairs (several times) and just dropped it a lot. I'd give the i 730 a 9/10

Hmm, where to start with this phone. I'm a technician for an Authurized Nextel Service Center, so i've seen my share of these phones. They are nice phone's with viberant color screen, polyphonic ringtones, and download capabilites. Over all i was impressed with the usablility, the menu's are easy to read and understand, and most everything is easy to use. I did like the fact that the OK button is in the middle of the Navigation button, it's a bit easier to use than some of the other iden phones. The only complaint i do have about the phone is the poor reception. The way the GPS and Cell antenna's are set up in the phone make it hard for people to get reception in less than optimal conditions. This problem was bad enough that Nextel sent out a memo to Service centers making sure that we let customers know to leave the Antenna up and not to touch the Antenna. Overall i give the phone 6 out of 10. If not for the reception issues this would be a great phone

This phone has the poorest reception for a cell phone I have ever seen, I currently have service with Nextel, it could be them, but then on the other hand, I've had to do a door to door 4 times now on the pieces of junk they keep sending back. I will diffently never own another one.Very very poor phone, when you have to carry a prepaid one with you also because the i 730 wont get out half the time.

I've had this phone and Nextel for about 2 months now. I must say, reception wise, it is excellent for me here in hawaii. not a dropped call yet. it's more than likely because of the carrier I have now. Prior to nextel and the i730, I was with T-mobile, and had the Nokia 6610. I had no problems with my Nokia, but the reception of T-mobile was awful. Especially where I worked.
As far as the PRO's for this phone, I've got to say the reception is what sticks out in my mind the most. I am actually getting reception in my office now!!! i hated not getting phone calls/messages/alerts/etc. now i get "Real Time" phone calls instead of voice messages when I step out of my office.
Although not as user friendly like my Nokia 6610, it is user friendly enough for the average cell phone user. Like any other cell phone, you just got to play with it for awhile. So user friendliness is not an issue with this phone.
The phone body is also a major PRO. it is solid, and doesn't feel like it'll break if dropped a few times. the battery compartment casing is made out of a silver metal material. Same goes with the buttons on the phone. very solid and it doesn't feel fragile at all.
Now for the CON's.....
The i730 is heavier and larger than the older phones i've owned. so if you don't feel like carrying somethying heavy around, I don't recommend it. but you must factor in sturdyness when you think about the weight. I was willing to sacrifice the weight to have a solid phone like this. you may or may not.
The status screen on the front is not worth bragging about. it'll tell you whose calling you when someone calls obviously. and if you have any messages. but once the ringing ends, you must flip open the phone to know who called you. So that can get annoying at first. other than that, it's only other purpose is telling you the time/date/reception bar strength/and battery life.
Ring tones that came with this phone is very basic. Very 20th century style motorola need to step up on this feature on all then iden line of phones, and get to the 21st century ring tones like everyone else.
Overall I am satisfied with this phone. I don't recommend it to users who are looking for more than just a phone. (ie text messaging/taking pictures/recording videos and emailing it to other recipients). This phone is definitely not built for that. it is built for, however, to mainly make/receive calls . and I mainly use it for that purpose only. and playing games on it occasionally. From a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, i would give it an 8. Really people. it's what you're looking for that will effect how you judge it's performance.

Alright, I can't complain about the phone itself. I recently went from Cingular with a Nokia 3320 to Nextel with a Motorola i730. The Nokia was definitely user friendly, but as for Cingular, crap. I can't for sure say that this phone in particular is great for reception, but it is better. It's a large phone, but a flip phone decieves that. I would rather have a fancier phone with the built in cameras and all that fancy stuff, but at the time, this was cheap and there. Maybe carriers should look into having ALL their phones available to customers. I guarantee they'd sell them better instead of having to order through a catalogue. To sum it up, if you're just lookin' for a cheap phone that works, this is a good phone. If you want fancy, don't buy this phone!

There are no words to describe how much we hate this phone. It drops every other call and freezes every day. I have to charge it at least twice a day. My two year prison term with this phone is finally up on the 24th and we are going far, far away from this phone, Nextel and Sprint. We are going with the Samsung a970. Such a sigh of relief.
Can't really tell you what we will do exactly to destroy these phones. Hey, at least we'll be able to say we got SOME enjoyment out of these phones. Almost every month weconsidered paying the early termination fee, JUST to get away from the phones.
In the begining, we loved them.....for about a MONTH! Now, with no top buttons, no antena and a phone that shuts off after every call, I am so pleased to hear they were discontinued. Too bad they came out in the first place!
