Just got this phone. I had the i730 for almost a year, until someone stole it the other day. soooo...I upgraded to this phone. so far, very familar to the i730 as far as operations wise (see my review under i730). even all the buttons are in the same locations. the major differences between the two phones are:
1. the weight. the i836 is very light. easily fits in your pocket without it bulging out like the 730. i think it weighs as much as the i830. maybe a tad bit more.
2. battery life on this phone is only 135 min max talk time. it's not really an issue for me because i charge my phone once a day anyways. the only time you may feel disappointed is when you are playing games on it or exploring the phone on a lengthy basis. you may want to keep the charger nearby, and/or buy a car charger just in case you lose battery life.
3. the shape of this phone is definitely a plus!!! i've fallen in love with it. has a sweet curve to the phone and it fits well on my hands when i talk on it.
4. sturdiness. the i730 definitely beats out this phone. it seems a bit more fragile and am now more cautious about not dropping it. although, i think the longer i have it, my cautiousness will decline. on the other hand, the exterior buttons on this phone will last longer than the i730. they are not made of rubber. but instead they are more of a solid material. also, the charger protective cover is not as flimsy as it is on the i730.
overall, i am very satisfied with this phone. i recommend it to those who are willing to lose the "NEXTEL" bulge/weight factor. i wish it had a phone on it. i do miss the blue light my i730 had on the exterior window. this phone's color is more of an orange looking light. i wish i could change it, but oh well. not a major issue for me. overall i give it an 8 out of 10 rating.

l have been using the i836 for just a little over a week and l would not change it for any other cell phone, no other cell phone l know looks or feels like this one; it is so attractive, my friends want to touch it, you would love the way it feels... and it is so easy to navigate and to use overall, it also gets great reception and the quality of sound and image is great for its size, of course it is not a camera phone but it does receive pictures from camera phones in the compatible network and its size and weight didn't dissapoint me, l believe this is the smallest and lightest all of nextel phones. This is a metal phone, it looks like a Lamborghini, really smooth, you would think it is heavy but it isn't at all, and since you can run java apps and emails, l am using it a lot more on the go, and l also felt in love with the nextmail service l've been using ever since l got this phone, which is the ability to send voicemails using the walkie talkie button to any email address all over the world! And, since l get the reply as a text message, it's the greatest way to keep in touch with everybody. l totally recommend this phone to everybody who is looking for the most for his or her money, and a lot of very well applied great design went into it, it is really stylish, see it live, oictures do not justice...and l would say that the few disavantages about it are that it only comes in dark gray -but it is really cool shade anyway- and the battery should last a little longer and the volume could be a little higher, but since this model is so small and light, there is really no big dissapointments here. Get one.
