The Nextel King
Reviewer: SlimJim on Fri Apr 18, 2003
I purchased this phone about 4 weeks ago. I switched from Sprint, who was my carrier for 3 years. Sprint gave me very few problems but coverage in my house was minimal at best and I constantly would drop calls. So I took the plunge, dropped Sprint and gave Nextel a shot.
Coverage here in Florida is fantastic. The signal penetrates most buildings as well. I have heard that Nextel has coverage problems around the country but here in Florida it is great. The direct connect feature is fantastic. Works like a charm.
My only issue with the phone is that occasionally the speakerphone function doesn’t work correctly and I am unable to hear the other party. The Nextel representative told me that this is an issue with most of the Nextel phones but they are going to replace my phone anyway. A nice gesture on their part.
It has Java Apps which is an impressive program. The colors are amazing. Plus you can customize your ring tones and wallpaper. This phone can store up to 250 numbers. The games that you can buy for the phone are also amazing. The only difficulty I found about this phone was your face can stick to the screen and leave oily marks and the face of the phone gets scratched very easily.
The phone is large if you compare it with the phones that other carriers are now selling, but it is not all that large. The phone is actually pretty light compared to its size and you can put color batteries and antennas on. I would recommend this phone to anyone who can (afford it) because even with the cheapest plan the overcharges are incredible expensive.

Worth every penny
Reviewer: Kevin on Thu May 29, 2003
Hardware: The i95cl is definitely worth the slightly extra size compared to its competitors. I am extremely satisfied with the clarity of the calls and net connectivity (unlimited compared to most Sprint plans). The screen is large and crisp while the Java Applets run extremely smooth. Keep in mind you DO NOT have to go through Nextel to pay/download additional apps, ringers, or backgrounds! The built in speakerphone is also a great feature which I use on a regular basis - especially since talking on your cell in NY is against the law. Another GREAT feature is also the online address book which updates to the phone. One strange thing I noticed about this phone is that when close to speakers or monitors I receive strange interference. After speaking with Nextel and Non-Nextel technicians, determined this is caused by the frequency Nextel uses. Bottom line is this phone is worth every penny of current $99 offer.
Service: My initial activation with Nextel was a bit aggravating since it seems Amazon didn't communicate the entire offer to Nextel (or vice versa). It took 3 representatives to finally activate my phone. In addition I had to call Nextel when my bill arrived since the $100 credit was not applied (again due to the mix up between Amazon and Nextel). On the positive side I NEVER had to wait on hold or go through a series of automated menus (or the EXTREMELY annoying "Clare" with Sprint). I got connected to a live representative right away who was very willing to help me out. I also changed my plan 5 days in with no hassles whatsoever.
To sum up, my experience with Nextel has been many times better then Sprint. With the unlimited incoming service plan offer, I have now completely cancelled my Verizon phone (and I work with Verizon!)
