Today at the Consumer Electronics Show, Motorola and Avvenu, a Palo Alto, California based start-up specializing in remote access and sharing technology, announced Motorola Share, a free service for mobile users providing on-the-go image access and sharing capabilities from a wide range of Motorola mobile devices - including the popular RAZR, ROKR, and V557 models.

According to The NPD Group, the leader in market information for the wireless industry, mobile phone sales to consumers in the U.S. reached 31.6 million units in the third quarter of 2005. This number represents solid incremental growth of seven percent from the second quarter 2005 sales volume of 29.6 million units and an increase of more than 30 percent compared to sales during the same period in 2004. NPD estimates total third quarter 2005 consumer sales of slightly more than $2 billion.

Cingular Wireless today announced the availability of two enhanced services: Mobile Email and Mobile IM. Now, for the first time in the US market, Cingular customers can gain access to their existing email or IM accounts from AOL, MSN and Yahoo! through a set of simple, easy to use applications which can be accessed through a standard mass market phone.

Motorola announced that Gartner Inc. affirmed the company's position as the world's second-largest handset manufacturer. The company commented following the release of Gartner's 2004 Market Share Report. The report estimates Motorola's fourth quarter 2004 global market share to be 16.3% based on sales to end users.

Motorola may have gotten an early Christmas present from rival cell phone manufacturer, Samsung. The Korean manufacturer reported that its fourth quarter profits were lower than expected, hurt by the recent price war with Finnish rival Nokia. It had been slow to beef up its portfolio in time for the holiday shopping season, giving Motorola's newest phones an edge.
