Motorola RAZR V3m User Reviews

1. Posted by Verizonuser82 Wed Jun 28, 2006 9:55 pm

I recently bought this phone and so far happy with my purchase. When I first took it out of the box the phone looked sleek. The color is not too light and not too dark.

Design
The design of the phone is obviously very thin, and still manages a good feel in the hand. If you are coming from a phone like an LG Clamshell you will probably feel a difference at first, but easily adjust to the RAZR. The camera is convieniently placed, and the speaker is on the back way on the bottom making it barely visible yet very powerful. Although some keypads are loose, mine seems to be in there tight.

User Interface
As we all know, the Verizon User Interface is present on this phone. Unfortunetly, the new flash version is not present, so the red bars are permanent. At times I like it and at times I imagine how much better the Motorola User Interface would look on the phone. Although the speed is somewhat fast, it is still disliked by most of the public. Yet, with matching wallpapers the red can be somewhat enjoyable. The user interface also has a status indicator bar, which is always visible when speakerphone is on, this can get very annoying. There is also only availability for the Down Key to be customized rather than all 4 keys. The user interface also blocks a wallpaper visible on the front screen, replacing it with an orange default wallpaper which is permanent (unless you know how to hack the phone and do a simple seem edit) The entire user interface is erasable, but requires a lot of technical experience and the skill of flashing a phone, which I won't get into it. Overall, wether you love it or hate it, you have it, so get used to it.

Camera
Do not get excited about the camera people, it is very slow. Even though this will probably be fixed with a future software update, the current camera speed is very slow. Expect to wait a good minute (including startup and taking time) to take a picture. The video quality is not terrible but its not crytal clear.

Music Capabilities
The "mp3 player" only plays WMA files. Which I don't see as a big problem only that I think they are much larger files and will take up more memory. Something profitable to the transflash card dealers..but whatever. I found VCast music to not be a very useful feature seeing as the song quality when downloading is terrible, it is way overpriced, and you can sync with music on your computer anyway (with much better quality) The manage music section is very organized and easy to understand so that would be a plus on verizon's side. You can listen to music with the flip closed but can not use any controls.

Basic Information
The call quality is excellent, even with an internal antenna. There are always clear calls and have never had a dropped call. The battery life is decent. I can get through a few days without charging and still have decent calls. The speakerphone is crystal clear, im very happy with this feature.

Added Extras
The phone is filled with added extras like Vcast Music Video and Games and new features like VZnavigator. Ive tried the navigtor and seems useful, but I know my streets and don't need it, but for those who do it seems like a very useful feature. I myself think that VCast is a ripoff, but if you're willing to pay, you still have it. The transflash card is something I found to be very useful. The phone itself has less memory than the V3c, so the transflash card is a must for people using this phone as an Mp3 player.

Overall
Overall I am very happy with my purchase. I don't have many regrets and reccomend this phone for people looking for style and funtionality.

The Motorazr V3m is a solid phone- making and recieving calls is easy and effective, the operating system is consistent, and it looks small and stylish on the outside. However, once you go beyond simple phone tasks, things get more complicated.

First, the exterior: it is sleek and thin, and looks very good. One problem is that the outside tends to smudge, but this can be corrected by wiping the phone off. The keys are nice, which is amazing because they are so thin. The d-pad in the middle is a little hard to use, though- the phone could have used a little more space around it.

As for basic features, almost everything is very accessible and intuitive (with the exception of the camera, which is hard to get to from the menus). The contacts software allows you to add multiple numbers for one entry at once, which is a bonus. Settings are easy to find and change. Messages are straight-foward, however, if you miss more than one message and then say "yes" at the screen that asks if you want to check them, you are taken to the newest message, which can be confusing if the earlier message is connected to it.

Now, the extra features that Verizon advertises are the disappointing part. I know this is common for phones, but just remember that what is advertised does not come with the phone for free. You must pay pretty hefty fees for web browzing, Vcast (video service), downloading ringtones and using the navigation system. Even the games are only demos and can only be used once. I have tried the navigation software as well as the browser, and both are top-quality. It is up to you to decide whether you want to pay the fees ($10/mth and $6/mth respectively). Music is also difficult to transfer from your PC- I have had no success trying a USB cord I had at home, so you might need to spend another $20 to get the propritary cord. The bluetooth software with the phone does not support file transfer.

Overall, a good phone for everyday needs, just make sure you know what you are getting into.

MOTORAZR V3M

Ok, I've had this phone for about 2 weeks, and I'm pretty dissapointed with it. I absolutely HATE the fact that the outside screen doesn't display my pictures. thats the least of its problems. The keypad buttons are non-responsive while text messaging, and sometimes while entering contacts. The screen is lower res. than the gsm version of the razr, which was not impressive to begin with. The battery was not the best either. The gsm razr has a better battery! Verizon's service isn;t that great either and i'm strongly advising you to avoidthis phone and pick up an lg phone instead. Sorry motorola.

i 100% agree with mike_renninger, verizon wireless is a greedy company. i bought the phone last year, it's been okay, but verizon has been my main problem. first of all, the customer support is horrible. i called a couple of times to ask how to transfer my phonebook, i barely got a legit response. second of all, i hate the verizon locks down their phones. i really wanted to get tetris for example for free, i know that sometimes we do have to pay, but every other carrier i kno of (at&t, t-mobile, sprint, etc) have j2me enabled games which you can download for free online and then transfer to your phone. verizon thought it would be a good idea for us to pay to get our games and used qualcomms great idea of BREW games. you can't even transfer your games (even if you paid) to another verizon phone. they make you pay for every damn thing. no wi-fi, not even on the new LG voyager, yeah i'm pretty sure the iPhone is going to win., finally another thing that bothers me is that verizon stripped down $40 motorola phone tools. since v4.0, they disabled the multimedia features. the only way to get it, you have to get v3.7 and do this seem editing and junk, which could mess up your phone.
well otherwise this phone isn't that bad. it's slim and sleek, and even though i was hesitant on the keyboard at first, it has turned out to be pretty good. i didn't buy a case, and unfortunately the camera lens cracked, but it still takes pictures (luckily everything but the actual lens that takes the pictures was cracked). oh yea, did i forget to tell you that verizon locks down the phone so you can't change the wallpaper on the outside? yeah, they don't even want us to let our external screen have wallpaper we won't. i know i'm going off on a raid on verizon, but i'm just pissed they disable everythin, i want to switch to AT&T, but i still have a year left on my contract. so, if you want to get into verizon, be aware, if you dont care about getting free games, wallpaper, or ringtones, then this phone is fine. Verizon Wireless has great service, i get 3-4 bars most of the time. but, if you like to get stuff for free, get this phone to sprint service.

i have had lots of experience with cell phones. i joined this forum to express my dissapointment in verizon and this phone. i had this phone for 2 months.

first i would like to say verizon has limited this phone so they can make even more money. disabling features that allow you to download music and movies to the phone from the computer. they also disabled the ability to change the shortcut arrow keys other than the down arrow. they point to pay services from verizon and you cann't change it. i had to hack the phone to just use the ring then vibrate function.(still looking for simutanious ring and vibrate function) why would verizon block these? i had to download all kinds of special software to manipulate around verizons road blocks. enough with what verizon screwed up on the phone.

where are the games that should come with the phone? i understand you should pay for extra games or even the extensive games but come on there should be atleast 1 or 2 simple, free games.

verizon issue------every program you want to use cost extra... but is kinda neat. for around $3/month you are able to use you email including pop, yahoo, hotmail, ect. you have to pay $10/month $3 for 24hours to use the navigation software they brag about on the commercials. you can also get weather, comics, stocks, and news. all costing more and more money

to get around some of this you can sign up for txt messaging (again more money $5 for 250 messages unpublished txt option) txt message 466453(google) for directions, phone/reverse phone number lookup, weather, movie times, all kinds of info. net search for google sms for more info.

the phone also lacks the ability to store notes or reminders in the phonebook about the phonebook entry many other cell phones offer this feature.

there is no menu shortcuts for the main menu! in other phones you have the ability to press menu then the number sequence ie on my lg3200 it was menu 56 for calculator menu 51 calender ect. for the v3m you must navigate to the settings then you can press 1 for tools then you can press a number corisponding to the tool. lots of buttons you have to look at to navigate to the correct menu, which can be bad while driving...

next the physical issues. the volume buttons on the side don't work properly. when pressing the volume down button, it goes up sometimes or nothing at all the other times. in order to resolve this i must press up button very hard then the down button works properly. the phone doesn't offer very much protectiion for the camera lens or outside screen. i purchased a hard cell phone skin/case (similar to a leather case, but it snaps on the phone) it didn't come with anything to protect the outside screen or camera lens either. i'm cheap and creative so, i used a thin clear vinal cover under the cover for the camera lens. i used a laser (from work) to cut a clear cd jewel case to fit in the case and protect outside screen.

memory card is in a bad position if you tend to take it out often. even though it is possible to take it out and put it in with out taking out the batery. it doesn't feel good...somthing about bending the small micro sized memory chip doesn't seem right

now on to the good features....
i liked the generic usb data connection. ebay+$10 got me the data cable and software from motorola. the calculator is fantastic. the movies are a little lo res but it is a phone not a tv. the camera is adiquite, just make sure you don't need a flash and NOTHING is moving. again it is just a phone. music is a little frustrating do to the conversion to wma, but it isn't all that bad. and the sound is loud maybe not the best from the speaker, i still havent ventured out to get the usb to 3.5mm jack (normal headphones).

sorry about being long winded, i just wanted to let you know what you are getting into if you go with this phone and verizon. also i'm a very bad speller......

I got this phone a week ago and so far i really dislike it. I got it hoping it would be a better phone. But its not. The Razr holds a very low charge I charge it to where the battery is full and two days later it has one bar left, and I don't even talk very much. My friend has a razr also and she said she had charged it three times that day( although she is ALWAYS texting). Also when you start to get into the specifics of what you want to do it gets really confusing, it is very hard to find what you want without going through five or six steps. icon_sad.gif but there are a few upsides to the Razr it always seems to have at least a couple of bars. And the camera is pretty good, but when you want to make a movie it only lets you make a video for 30 seconds even when you have a lot of space on your phone. I think this phone is WAY too overated and much to pricey. I would give this phone a 4.5 out of 10

I have this phone, the Verizon Wireless one, but it's the gray one instead of the pictured silver one. This is my second Motorola Razr V3m, I had one before, but it froze up on me, so Verizon Wireless gave me a refurbished model.

Design-

Personally, I believe that the gray color is more attractive than the newer silver/black color. On the outside, the LCD 2" screen is a nice, pleasing orange color. Inside, the attractive thin silver metal keypad lights up light blue, and the 4" LCD screen can be viewed in dim lighting. It is thin, so it fits in my pocket easier then most cell phones. I can hardly tell it's there!

Speakerphone-

The speakerphone is the best I've heard compared to Samsungs and LG'S. It doesn't crackle.

Music Player-

It plays music, but there's no touch-sensitive music controls on the front of the Razr.

Video Player-

You have to pay for the V-Cast Video Service (V-Pak Subscription), but it plays sports, entertainment, news, and weather videos.

Inprovement over the Verizon Wireless Motorola Razr V3c-

Unlike the V3c, this V3m has a music player. Under the battery, it has an SD Card slot, unlike the V3c. It also comes in a sleek silver color.

Overall-

I'll have the Motorola Razr V3m for 2 more years, but I'm pretty satisfied with it!

Ok. All i am seeing is complaints about the Verizon Razr v3m. I have one through U.S. Cellular, and have had it for about a year and a half. I've not had one problem with this phone.
The only thing that is a little disappointing is that the battery life is not that great, but come on. what do you expect from such a slim phone with a great big display and music player?

The Music player is great, but to play more than one song at a time, it would be wise to create a playlist. Easy to do. Also, the menu, camera and other features are very easy use.

As far as getting to the camera menu, there is a camera button right on the phone. to get to the menu, the left soft key brings you to options.

So, All i have heard about Verizon Wireless Razrs have never been great, so i wouldn't get this phone if you have a plan through them.

This is a great phone. icon_smile.gif

Caution: Don't let all the advertising hype get you. Razr is a dog. icon_frown.gif

Got Razr due to Verizion promo. Small size and ability to fit in pocket a good point icon_smile.gif

Ergonomics are terrible. Buttons on side get in the way, especially if your a lefty. Software not at all intuitive for basic tasks redialing last call, sending a test message, etc. icon_frown.gif

Better if you want a pock game toy than if you want a phone. icon_frown.gif

Phone is EXTREMELY fragile, especially sensitive to moisture. icon_exclaim.gif Verizion will void warranty if white sticker under cover turns red. Just a little sweat will do this, read the real fine print in the warrantee.

Buttons do not have a solid tactile feel, makes dialing with thumb very difficult compared to other cellphones with even smaller buttons.

Plan on returning this. I will actually pay a $100+ to get rid of this, big mistake on my part, was enticed by the small size.

The usually great Motorola really blew it on this one.

I truly love this phone! This phone never gave me any problems. I especially love the Verizon Wireless VCAST user interface that is on most Verizon Wireless phones, including this RAZR V3m. I have the silver one, and the color scheme is weird, but I love the slim design. I haven't had this phone long, but when I got it, I knew that it was a great selling phone, so I had ordered it on the internet, to save money and to prevent myself from going to the store and realizing that the phone was sold out. I love the music quality, once you download music from your own PC. Using music from EMusic works on this phone tremendously. I use part of the songs as ringtones. I love how you can record music on it also, a feature I wanted, seeing that all the people I know with Sony Ericsson phones have it. I have seen that the phone is completely different from the RAZRs on Cingular and T-Mobile, basically in user interface, style, and overall performance. I especially love the 1.3 megapixel camera with video. It may not be high resolution, but I never had a camera phone, so this phone has kept me content. The interior 65k color screen is spectacular, and it reminds me of a 262k color screen. This phone is unbelieveable. I've only had it for a couple of days and I have learned to do everything on this phone. The gaming performance is amazing, especially with the VCAST 3D games. For the price, they're worth it. The only thing woth this phone that annoys me is that the TransFlash/microSD slot is beneath the battery cover, but I'll get used to it. I really love the reception I get with this phone. I usually get a full grid anywhere I go with this phone. This phone has given me no problems and I strongly recommend it to anyone. It is amazing!!!!!

The Razr V3m by verizon is about one of the coolest phones out there. Such a little phone but with so many features. Comparing this phone with the newly released Razr V3i by cingular the V3m knocks it out of the park. It can hold up to 1 gig of extra memory via transflash over cingulars 512. It has a better camera and doesn't require an external memory card to use the highest res like cingulars. Plus the V3m has Vcast and ez navigator which is really nice to have and helpful. All in all the V3m is a great choice and knocks all other razr's out of the park.

Ok i don't actually have a v3m but my friend does. Although she owns one i have it all the time icon_biggrin.gif. At first glance it looks great and then you actually get to mess with it and it is horrible. At first i tried to navigate through the menu's and that was a joke. It was so complicated thanks to verizon. Also the external buttons are extra sensitive, when pulling out of pocket or even in pocket it gets changed way to easy unlike my v3 i got from cingular. The external screen can't be personalized either thanks to verizon locking that feature so now you have to have the ugly red and orang. Ringer is a joke. You cant have a vibe and ring so when i had it i missed half the calls cause i couldnt hear it or feel it vibrate. Batt life, don't get me started. Yeah it may look ok at first but soon it will die really easy even when not using. Software or hardware what ever its called is slow. It took forever to work with . . . until she dropped it in the bath tub. icon_w00t.gif then half the keys didn't work and the outside screen freaked out. . . but after i slammed it closed from being mad it actually worked faster. Another thing is the mp3 player doesn't play mp3's! icon_twisted.gif Hello it makes no sense. I transfered some mp3's to it and it said it didn't support them and it deleted them. I read later on that it only supports wma. icon_wacko.gif The text messaging takes alot of getting used to. This iTAP you enter the word and to go through the words stored you have to press the right arrow key which took me three days to figure that out. icon_neutral.gif Another thing is that you can't close it and send a text. It will cancel the sending. Not convinient when in school and texting a parent. Overall i would not recommend this phone to anyone. I'm actually pretty glad that i didn't get it. Instead i got sprint and about to upgrade to the new UpStage. icon_biggrin.gif

I dont think i have ever been so unsatisfied with a phone. icon_mad.gif I thought at first it was because I wasn't accustomed to the functionality of a new phone, but that's not it at all. I have had the phone for 6 months and have had to have it replaced 3 times because the speaker goes out. I dont use my speaker phone much at all, so I dont know what the problem is. When i took it back recently the guy told me the speaker will go out if i leave the ringer volume up all the way all the time. This makes me wonder why design a phone so the volume goes up that high if its going to cause the speaker to blow. icon_wacko.gif Besides, I keep my ringer on vibrate the majority of the day, so that cant be the problem.

The front screen is small, which I can deal with since the only thing I use it for is to see the time and who is calling me, but it has a huge window which leads you to believe you have a big screen, but you dont.

I also dont like the location of the memory card. You have to remove the battery everytime you want to install and remove it.

The earphone plug and the charging plug go in the same place, so you cant charge it and use the earphones at the same time. It also needs a separate atachment for the earphones, this is included when you buy the phone, but its one more thing to keep track of.

Battery life sucks too. If you play games at all you can almost watch the life drain out of the battery. I thought about getting an extended life battery, but I didnt want to invest the money because there are so many other things i dont like about the phone.

You can only program one of the shortcut keys. icon_frown.gif

There are only 3 alarms. Guess that should be plenty, but i was spoiled by the phone I had before.

Takes crappy pictures.

Preloaded ringtones are lame.

About the only thing I like about the phone is its size.

The phone i had before this one was fantastic. It was an E815 icon_wub.gif , and the only reason I didnt get another one when my contract was up was because they quit making them. Figures. icon_cry.gif You could program all 4 of the shortcut buttons. It had a EZTip Calculator. I loved this because we go out to eat all the time. It also had a quick alarm feature. You could set it for 15, 30, 45 minutes, 1 or 2 hours. It also had 5 other alarms you could set. You could name the alarms too - Like Work, Kids School, etc. It had a speaker phone and i never had a problem with the speaker. It took great pictures and had pretty decent preloaded ringtones.

I talked to the manager at the Verizon store near me and he said he would credit my account with the CURRENT retail price of the phone ($100) and I could get a different phone. He said he couldn't credit the price I paid for it because its been so long. I'm thinking they should credit the price I paid for it because the phone is a piece of crap. If I wasn't having any problems with the phone and just wanted another one that would be a different story, but they have had to replace it 3 times already. Obviously, the problem is with the phone. Oh well, I'm thinking about getting the new enV VX9900. I read the reviews on it and about the only negative thing anyone had to say was the front screen was small. Cant be much smaller than the one on the Razr.

I have a Motorola V3m since February and the phone looks slim, sleek and eye-catching at first. icon_wink.gif But then after while it has gotten to the point where the battery bars strength were not only being charged up fully and the same day it goes out and shows "low Battery", but the problem is that when you want to set your picture or the image that was already made on the phone as a screensaver, you want to show it on the phone. I set a delay for 1 minute.I waited for it to appear.nothing happened! icon_confused.gif Another problem is that you want to take pictures to show clearly, but the phone did not have a camera flash that was built in it. OOOoookaaay. icon_twisted.gif I just started to get fed up with this phone so bad icon_mad.gif ! Bad quality, everything! I should've sticked with either any LG or the Samsung instead. Never trush Motorola if this phone is not for you.
In August, I'm getting a Samsung Gleam upgrade phone and I just wanted to say---- R.I.P., V3m. icon_frown.gif

I'm getting my 3rd razr because they don't work and they have to be replaced every 2 months. I had a charging problem with the first one, the replacement that was sent i can hear the people i call or that call me but they can't hear me at all. You cannot pick this phone up or grab it without hitting one of the external buttons. The camera (sans flash) is aweful. Worst phone i've ever owned period.

I love the design, sure i want it to have everything but i absolutely love its design.

closes up nicely
close call just by slapping it closed
open for an easy snapshot you can see instantly
thin enough to fit in your pocket or in a thin holster
rectangular screen large enough to get reasable quality video at 320x240
feature rich
easy to play games

Its only down side is that I want it to have everything ! icon_rolleyes.gif
