I've been using this phone for close to a month already. Overall it's a solid phone with a whole lot of features. My review will be as extensive as possible, detailing every aspect of the phone.
Design
The design of the phone is a little different from its cousins like v3i, v3c or even the v3. It's much thicker, and is no longer the slimmest flip phone on the market. If thickness is paramount to you then v3x ain't the phone for you. Of course, the bulk comes with a much bigger and powerful internal processor, and a slightly higher capacity battery.
The phone has sleek lines and a very bright LED near the camera. The only port available is the mini-USB port, which is located on the right. It handles headphones, charger, USB - everything you can throw at it.
Multimedia Features
The phone itself is a multimedia handheld. It features playback of many different formats available in the market, like WMA, WMV, AAC, AAC+, MP4, MP3, WAV, MID, RM, RA. In my own experience, the phone plays 128kbps WMA, all bitrate MP3s with relative ease. As for video, WMV and MP4 formats play well on the v3x. More importantly, full screen (using the # key) viewing is wonderful, and if the files are encoded correctly, full length movies look beautiful. The in-video sounds with the provided headphones are excellent, especially with those surround sound movies like the Matrix and Saving Private Ryan.
Camera
The camera is explicitly labelled as 2.0Megapixels at the front of the phone. It captures images up to 1600 X 1200 pixels. The LED photo light is excellent and its shooting distance is good even at night. The unique hexagonal shaped aperture takes photos with sufficient light indoors and outdoors relatively well, but indoor pictures appear a little grainy in low light situations. The real essence of the camera comes from the Macro mode, which makes it real good for close-ups. The switch, which is below the inner screen, swaps plastic lens for the glass ones in macro mode, increasing clarity. Overall, the phone takes good pictures, but not the best ones in the market of equivalent Megapixels.
Games
The giant resolution of the screen makes games wonderful. The images simply pop out of the screen. Usual games played on nokia phones become only occupying the top left of the screen, the rest of the canvas is left white (blank). However, when playing maxiumum resolution (i.e. 320 X 240) games, the big pixel count makes games fun, but what I don't understand is why the status bar on top continues to appear, cutting off the screen below. My phone comes with new firmware, and apparently its performance is better, probably due to the enabling of the onboard processor. (yes, this phone comes with a Nvdia GoForce 4800 graphics card.)
Calls and Video Calls
Calls made via the v3x is good, reception is alright. Video calls are exceptional, and the big screen makes video calls very easy to use. However, perhaps due to network lag, the video is not in sync with the voice, though the effect is only minimal.
Battery Life
Here comes the headache part. The v3x suffers the same problem as its ancestors. Especially when using a 3G network, the battery really goes fast. It's worse when you play games and watch videos. Luckily though, the mAh rating for the BC60 is better than BC50 used on other v3 phones, or it'll go flat after a day's intensive usage. I tried using all the features one after another i.e. camera, video call, video playing, music playing, msging, etc.. and the phone lasted about 12hours before it totally died (i.e. doesn't even startup).
Overall
The motorola v3x is a top performer. Its UMTS 2100 support makes it the perfect starter phone for new 3g users. Its multimedia prowess coming from an Nvdia chipest is evident in most aspects, though there's yet to be improved. Battery life is much of a headache sometimes, and hence it is almost required that the user exercise power saving tips.

I have v3x here in Europe, a black unlocked "3" version, and its the greatest phone I've used so far !
PRO's: -Excellent display, very good camera with superb color saturation.
-Tactile response is instant and the keypad is big and comforatable.
-Bluetooth, PC sync, and USB connection works flawlessly.
-MP3 music is superb with included headphones.
-Stylish design.
-Solid construction and very stable flip mechanism.
CON's: - When listening to MP3 music using the onboard loudspeaker, it cracks a bit at highest volume settings.
-Internet browsing is a bit on the slow side.
-The fingerprints-prone external display can be considered as a minor setback.
OVERALL : Very feature-packed and priceworthy model. Overall, I would highly recommend this phone (9 out of 10)

for the longest time i debated buying this phone because hurley suddenly went so negative. and i have to say now in hindsight, his review helped the least. i bought a black v3x two months ago, it shipped from china, and it works flawlessly on the cingular network here in Memphis, TN. i knew i was taking a risk using a triband phone on cingular's quadband network, but it works fine here so i lucked out i guess. it's just a risk you take when using this phone in the united states on cingular's network.
the screen is beautiful, very clear and crisp. the sound quality in calls and on speakerphone is clear and distortion free. the 2MP camera is a plus, as well as the internal camera. i love the transflash slot for additional storage space. i think mobiledia has the specs wrong, this phone has 60mb of internal memory.
to address olmir's problem with the audio, mine does not crack on high volume. i will go so far to say it is probably a problem with either the sample rate or volume of your audio files. i make my own ringtones and i control the volume level of the file to make sure i don't hear crackling or popping in loud, intense sound clips. as far as a full mp3 song goes, same thing there. you may want to tweak the songs a little in a wave editor to bring the volume down a little. no it will not make the song too quiet, it just reduces the peaks in the wave so it doesn't overload/overdrive your loudspeaker, as that can damage it over time.
regarding hurleys review, i respecfully disagree - he bought an unlocked product and expected it to work on cingular's medianet. that was a bad decision. i surf the itnernet on my v3x just fine. then again i stay away from cingular's media net stuff. not only does that media cost way too much, but i make my own ringtones/wallpapers/screensavers that are far superior in quality. and the best part, they are free. so folks, do read up on the specs before you buy one. if you are on a quadband network, go to your local dealer and ask about the network. ask if the 850mhz band is widely used in your area. if so, then this phone is not for you and you will not be happy with the performance on the network.
final words, think ahead people, you have to research products before you buy them, especially something this expensive. it's too large of a decision to make on the fly like hurley did.

I must have lucked in with the quality.
This is a great phone for an affordable multimedia and camera features.
V3I's storage device switching is removed in V3X, so it reads and sorts all of your multimedia from all of the available devices(itself and MicroSD) automatically. Music plays just fine via FW's player. Ringers AND alarm clovk's alarms can be set to any file in the phone without the need to transfer it to the internal memory, making all your favorite mp3s ready to go as anything you need.
The speaker is better than V3I and so is the earpiece volume.
Camera is simply superb, 2 megapixels is quite enough for just a phone and to top that off, the macro mode delivers exactly what it promises- superb point blank shots. The "flash" should have "light" added on to it since thats what it basicly is, though it does make a very good night lamp. The inner VGA camera still has a sharp resolution and allows video calls. The videos are of the usual RAZR quality- not the best but pretty good considering the low resolution. Pictures can be viewed full screen making the best use of the gorgeous display.
The design is alot stronger than previous RAZR, adding both durability and some weight. Also, the side buttons are on the body rather than the flip making their use alot more comfortable.
The only flaw I see in this phone is that it's a tri rather than quad band phone. The reception of 1900mhz in my area is fairly poor, especially at my own house(no signal). Ironically, I can talk just fine with 1-2 bars and I had no dropped calls thus far.
All in all, for $250 this razr is superb since its carries ALL of the accessories you might need with it: Phone Tools CD, USB cable, charger, color matching stereo Headset, and at least a 256mb MicroSD(might vary, but at least you get it). Very well worth the money.

I bought the phone to work on The Rogers Network. It was an O2 3 phone for the UK. Rogers refused to held configure the WAP/MMS setting but with the net finding something that worked wasn't difficult
All the reviews were great.
A week after I got the phone it would no longer charge on AC/Car. Oddly enough it chared via my notebook cable. A month later this died.
I called Motorola and after they checked the serial no. wouldn't give me the time of day. They said it was NOT a north american phone and there's no warranty.
The dealer exchanged it for another phone but after a week the centre multi function button started to act up.
I like the phone and it delivers what's promised... The quality is its weakness.
PS: I use both the HT850 car headset and the HT820. The latter is just amazing. The HT820 works but voice dialing requires a bit of patience.

Earlier, I have made a review of Motorola Razr V3x. Now I revised my review to give in-depth report. Let's go shall we.
1.Camera Image
Perhaps its the first Motorola phone that uses the 2 mega pixel CMOS quality. With 2MP, the pictures are crispy and sharp. You can give thumbs up for V3x. With a pushable button, you can switch landscape mode or Macro mode depending on your taste. I find the picture is sharp on close range and clear. LED light are available as flash for anyone took pictures at night. With a 2 cameras for video call, I find the inner camera shows sharp image of the caller as well. The screen is excellent and sharp.
2. Multimedia
Video mode only allows you to take video of 3GP formats, standard to all the phones in the market. With a two speaker, the V3x is sound far better than its previous models. With its supported A2DP, you can play MP3 songs to your bluetooth headset. V3x supports MP3, WMA, MP4. Its video also support 3GP and MPEG4.
3. Performance
V3x has a fast interface. Sending SMS is easy and fast. Even turn on the camera is fast. Taking picture speed is average but you can take photo even if you close the phone, the display is shown on the external screen.
Criticism
Although I have mention V3x good things, its time to check the negative feedback not only from me but other users as well. Let us see the negative feedback...
1. Imaging and video
As I mentioned earlier, the picture taken are nice and sharp however, compared to other phones in the market such as N70, Motorola is still looks average. Video call mode beats Nokia, but unfortunately the video mode is disappointing. Supports only and ONLY 3GP, V3x really behind the competitors as Nokia is using MPEG4 with CIF to take video. It produce a clearer and smoother video compare to Motorola V3x. On the downside, its LED light supposed to help take pictures in the dark but so far, I have tried and make to pictures worse as the LED light seems not bright enough. Taking pictures is easy but regarding focus issue, I find it troublesome as I need to adjust the focus frequently.
2. Multimedia
Video is really disappointing. Even worse is that V3x claim able to play MPEG4. However, I tried to update software, convert video and other which I can't remember how and still uable to make it play the MPEG4 video. On the other hand, music seems ok for V3x but somehow I found out that V3x choose its own MP3. I download a MP3 song with 166Kbps. It can played on my PC, Laptop, PSP, N73, Ipod and my old 6230 phone, except for V3x. Can't really understand as other songs with 166kbps can play without poblem. Also, I face the same problem with WMA files as well. V3x have a 2 speakers that sound good...ONLY IF YOU PLAY ON LOW LEVEL. Compared my Nokia N73, I found the V3x have a cracking sound if turn too loud.
3. Performance
While V3x does not have problems with its software loading, it IS heir software that giving them problems. With the absents of Notes, QuickOffice available for Nokia phones, I find V3x is relatively basic. Sometimes I need to jot down notes and I have to save as draft on messaging section. Battery is the biggest problem for me. On normal use, the battery life last 1.5 days sometimes less. Web browsing like others feedback, is extremely slow. During voice call, I received a lot of complaints from my friends that my voice sometimes low, sometimes high. There are times I noticed my V3x suddenly end my call.
Overall..
There are many problems that I didn't go deep. But I must say that V3x is a stylish phone. It was made for people concern of fashion and style. For me, this phone doesn't suits me. In the end, I trade-in my V3x for Nokia N73, which suits me better.

I live in Malaysia and here, Nokia rules the mobile phone industry. I brought my Motorola Razr V3x solely under impulse influence(well, I was actually looking for Samsung E540) Anyway, After seeing what Motorola can do, I just brought it. Most of my friends including those retailers told me that this phone sucks. Inadequate functions, expensive for a 3G phone, and most of all, not user friendly. I do admit that buying a locked V3x phone has many disadvantages, however This phone is not as bad as they say.
Inadequate functions? True. Compared to Nokia N series, its functions are quite less. No Adobe Reader, can't view MS office might be a disadvantage but for me, no problem. I used to have Palm Zire for MS office usage purposes. Later found out that I left my Palm in drawer than in my pocket.
Less user friendly? Probably. But once you know, it will be as easy as ABC. I use Nokia 6230 before. Many say it was not user friendly, but Nokia 6230 still remain the best seller for Nokia that they have to launch 6230i to compete with trends.
Expensive. Likely as compared with Nokia 6233. But the bright side is that the screen is bigger, Sound is crispier and 2.0 mega pxel is consider good quality.
At first I found this phone is too many features I can't use as my phone is a pararell imports. Its a H3G and MPEG4, Screen3 functions are not working. I'm disappointed but do I use all this functions? I don't know but one thing I know is that I might even forgot that it have those functions.

well i hate to say but had a bad experience on the v3i and was a software issue with cingular and found out the slvr L7 took place of the razr v3i and do know the v3x is being released in may?? so i did return my v3i for a v3x and wow was worth the extra$$$ and is a 3g phone with video calling and mp3,all internet goodys, blutooth, messeging, gaming, and too much more and has a 2.0 megapixal camera!!! i paid about $350.00 for it..and came with everything all the chargers, sterio head sets,holders,512 mb transflash mini card, usb pc cable like the v3i does!! the best thing of the v3x was able to put the software for the cingular m-modes for all music,pics,games..etc. with out and issues i HIGHLY recomend this v3x razr!!!!!
Update
well gotta tell the truth on the razr v3x well here it goes!! first i had the v3i and now the v3x both unlocked phones and both after a week they took a crap so do not buy either of thiese unless cingular sells them otherewise you will have major issues with them you cannot get any media net software for them they are usually eropean versions and there software in them and not only that cingular here in california has the 850 frequency it has the overseas 1900 settings and there is no usa settings for thiese there for only looks to show off so why have the piece of crap??and they have lousy reception and droped calls GET AND KEEP THE OLD RAZR!!!AT LEAST IT WORKS!!!

i've been tring to set it up for about three weeks now. i got the settings sent to me by cingular. media net works now(not that i care about media net), but i "cannot download" or "unable to download, try again later". this is not good. but on the bright side: i can send picture messages for some reason. another thing is v3x doesn't have the 850 band which cingular relies on heavily, so my phone doesn't have service some times or its real weak. the camera is awesome though. i just got the 1gb memory card and the music plays great too. i like the phones physical design also. it looks great and is un-noticable in my pocket. also the camera flash is great. the camera is really some thing else. i mean i really like it, and i can send the pics, but i like to recive them also. one more thing. cingular doesn't give a crap about your problems if its not their phone.
