Motorola SLVR L7 User Reviews

I bought this phone unlocked and use it on the T-Mobile To Go service. This is a great phone to anyone who does't like the RAZR's flip style and prefers a "candy-bar" style phone. While the RAZR and the SLVR have many simularities, the L7 deffinitly has more features. I've had this phone for about a month now and have had no problems with it.

The things that I see that people critisize the most, is the no EDGE support and the fact that its not CDMA. First of all, Motorola is coming out with a CDMA version that will be supported by Verizon (but if its anything like the V3c that Verizon has, then it'll be crap). Second, I find it really annoying that some people will review a phone a give it a 1/10 just because its not CDMA - Just like people who give it a 1/10 because it does't have EDGE. This is a review of your personal experiances with the phone, what you like and don't like. While I can see its fair to mention that there is no EDGE support in a Cons list, its just stupid to give it a 1/10 for the same reason. Besides, GSM is better anyway. GSM is used world wide - I can go to Germany and put in a O2 SIM card I can use their service, I don't have to buy a new phone if I want to change providers, and if I want to change providers its extremly simple (just swap the SIM card). OK, now back to the phone.

The internal speaker volume is no problem, I can hear people fine. The external speaker is great, I can always hear my ringtone (my old phone played ringtones thru the internal speaker since it didnt have an external one and I always missed calls).

I was very impressed with the external speaker, it is noticably louder than my friend's RAZR; when I play music thru it and when I'm on speaker phone with my friends we have no trouble hearing it.

The screen is smaller than the RAZR's, but I really don't mind (its not that much smaller).

The camera quality could be better, but its great for what I use it for. The video camera is great quality (mp4); I can't explain how impressed I was with the audio quality! Even from the little microphone it has! I use the video cam all the time, so this is a need-to-have-feature for me.

I have had no trouble with the keypad, but I can see how some people would. My friends who have RAZR's complain about how small the keypad is (actually I just think they're jealous because they just bought the RAZR right before the SLVR came out).

The reception is great on my SLVR. I was using my Cingular SIM card for a while before I got my T-Mobile SIM and I always had 5 bars wherever I went (my old phone that ran on Cingular didn't always have 5 bars, so its not just a service thing).

I love Bluetooth. This thing has a loooong range. My friend and I will transfer videos and pics; Sometimes when I ride the bus, I'll come to my stop when the transfer is still only half way done. I get off and the bus continues down the road a little bit and it will still complete the transfer! I think I remember reading that it has a 20-30 foot range. As with headsets; I left my phone downstairs and walked all over my house while on a call - with the exception of one room the connection was always great, no static and no breaking up.

The battery life is probably the SLVR's weakest point. It'll last about 4-5 days. But it all depends on what you use...example: If you leave bluetooth on all the time it will wear down your battery; if you always have it set on vibrate, it takes more power to spin the motor than it does to play a sound. And make sure you turn it off at night, or you will only get about 3 days out of it (off topic: good battery managment - every once in a while you should let the battery completly drain, this goes for all Lithium-Ion batteries. If you always have it connected to a charger and the battery meter is always at 80-100% you will kill your battery. Keep doing this and you'll battery will last you 30 minutes at max, it happened with my friends iPod and my friends Nokia).

The web browser I don't really use. But when I am browsing T-Zones, its great, I don't have any problems with it. I have never used EDGE so I can't compare the two, but GPRS seems fine. I know some people are critical of the phone because it doesn't have EDGE, but I don't really see a need for it. If I really need to use the internet then I'll use a computer.

If your into phones that have a lot of features and such, then you'll like this phone.

I just got my SLVR L7 a few days ago as a gift for Christmas. The silver limited-edition one. I would like to say that it is a great phone.

- Signal - Im inside many places and I get a good reception, where other phone's won't get any. Although if you'r in one of those places where the reception is 50/50 then you might not be able to speak clearly with the other person, so you'd need to move to a window or something. But it will go through in those places.

- Expandable memory - Music lovers, this phone is a really good one with the exandable memory, I'm pretty sure it comes with a 512mb memory chip of external memory in the United States, although here in Costa Rica this phone only comes with a 128mb and no iTunes, but I can easily put the songs into the multimedia sounds area.

- Camera - Although I've read that the camera on this phone is not one of good quality, I have to say that I am very happy with the Camera and think it's an excellent one. I'm not sure why people say otherwise, I've taken many photos and loaded them on my computer and the've come out excellent without blurs, etc... Obviously it won't match up to a $500 camera or something, but it's really good imo. Just make sure not to move when taking the picture or it will come out blury.

- Bluetooth - I don't know if it's just my phone since it's costa rica, but it was kinda hard for me to find the bluetooth feature on the phone, I didn't find it with the other things together like phone book, multimedia, etc... I had to go to settings and try to guess where it was which took a while. But it easily was put in the front so i just click one button now and I can get it. A phone with Bluetooth is a really good one, easily transfer things. Remember you have to copy the files first into Bluetooth then find the person unlike other phones.

- The phone's box - Comes with very useful things, charger, iTunes (in USA), a disk for bluetooth and other features. It is really handy that it comes with a memory chip you could put on the computer, or a usb port to transfer the stuff. You could also control you'r phone on the computer once you've installed your disk and easily transfer files. I love it.

- The numbers pad and it's skinniness - I love that about this phone, it's really skinny and the number's pad is metalic, along with the feel of the phone, it's not a plastic or stock color like other phones. Instead of being a plastic white for example, the silver edition will be a metalic silver chrome finish.

What I don't like:

- It only comes with 5MB of Internal memory, so if you wanted to put a song as you'r ringtone, you could only put 1 or maybe 2 and use only those. Because if your thinking of using a song that you put on your external memory card chip as a ringtone, you can't! What disapointment.

- 512MB is the max ammount of external memory you could put onto your phones, unlike others were its up to 2 or 5GB! 512MB is about 100 songs btw. Although 512MB is alot, compared to other phones like the normal RAZR V3, where you CAN'T expand you'r memory!

- If you wan't to transfer pictures from your computer to your mobile you have to shrink them and make them alot smaller of a size so they can be compatible and fit on you'r phone.. And while doing this, it will probably distort alot and look really bad if you plan on using it as a wallpaper, etc...

- Using a picture and voicedial for a contact, I'm having problems finding out how to do this.. It could be that it can only be a picture from the internal memory or something like that. Or it's possibly that Costa Rica doesn't support things like the voicedail due to I think it being needed to be set up to the internet, or perhaps I just have to play with it a bit more.

Overall, I love this phone and find it to be an excellent phone for many things. It's proffesional both how it works and how it looks.

I definatly recommend it.

I got this cell phone as a gift for getting good grades in early March. I really like it.

After seeing everyone with their RAZR phones I wanted one because I loved the way they look. My mom took me to Verizon to get one but I hated the Verizon UI so much, I did not get it and I went to Cingular and purchased the SLVR.

I got it for $250 on a one year contract with Cingular. I think that is a fair price. It comes with, the phone (obviously), a charger, a iTunes CD, and a USB thingy.

PROS:
Nice To Look At--I find myself just looking at it because I love it so much.
Motorola UI--Call me crazy but I love the UI. It is easy to use and looks very cool
Bluetooth--I love this feature because with my Motorola H700 I can hear better with it than with the phone itself.
iTunes--I think that this is so cool on a phone. 100 song limit bothers me, but I have an iPod.
Speakerphone--This is a must have on a phone for me. The clarity of it is not the best but it works.

CONS:
Clarity of Calls--I find myself asking the person if they are there and they have the same issue with me during a conversation.
Address Book--The fact that I cannot store mutiple numbers under one's name bothers me.

Other than that I cannot think of anything else. This is a great phone for the money and I am glad I decided on this one. I recommend this phone to anyone. It does not have insurance right now and it will not until June of 2006.

I wanted a MP3 phones and bought the L7 and I love it . First of all I like the look and the size. After I bought it, I also went to the Motorola web site and bought the Motorola Phone Tool (download version, already have the cable)...It's great. I created MP3 clips for ring tone nad make wallpaper from a picture of my grand son. The battery life is pretty good. I enjoy my favorate music thru the entire round of golf (4 to 5 hours) not a problem. The phone tool also make phone book editing a piece of cake. I don't have problem with the number of songs it holds, a couple of hundred songs is good enough. Never understodd how people need a thousand songs in the IPOD, how's he/she remember what is in it. The only thing I am missing now is a holder to attach to my belt . I have been putting it in my packet but it gets in the way for retriving other stuff in the pocket. Hope you guys go out and buy one and start enjoying it.

I have had this phone for a week now and i have to say its one of the best products that motorola has come out with!! I have been through 2 razr's, a sony ericsson s710a and a sony ericsson w600i and i have to say by far this phone is the best. from its looks to the sound quality not only of the music but by the ringtones as well. the battery life is great after heavy use. I have to say i have no problem with the internal antenna when im in school im usually the only one with reception!! on both sonys i had a 1.3 megapixel camera but it really killed the battery under heavy use and i dont mind vga quality. the only thing thats bad about this is that when i go to watch videos on the phone i cant fastfoward. but overall this is one great tech toy!! the price and everything is just right!!!

As i saw the new motorola slvr l7 the first thing i noticed about it is a lot smaller than the pictures on the internet. the screen is rather large still. the keys are very tiny. it is a very nice phone if you like storing your itunes on it. this phone has a lot of cool features on it. the camera has a large zoom and a clear picture. it takes a while to load all 100 of the songs you want on it. i recomend downloading 20 or so of your favorite songs at a time. it does not have a long battery life and in the manual it does not say to charge it for any specific time but i recomend the first time you charge it to charge it for at least 20 hours. i also advise you to get a case for this. it is very fragile. i hope you enjoy the many advantages of the motorola slvr l7. icon_cool.gif

Had the phone for less than a month.and I absolutely LOVE it! Call quality is amazing, takes pictures like a dream, MP3 function is on target.what else can I say! icon_wub.gif icon_wub.gif icon_wub.gif
I dropped the phone on the hard concrete parking lot.and it landed on the screen! I thought it was destroyed, but when I picked it up, just a tiny lil scratch on the keypad reflected that it had been dropped!

Amazing! A true keeper!

I think its funny how in the last post they hated motorola b/c everything they complained about, is how I feel towards Nokia.

Since ditching my nokia for the motorola slvr, I've been very pleased with my purchase. The only negative is that I can't seem to set the itunes songs as a ringtone, therefore I have to buy ringtones. The guy at the store said I can do it but I have yet to figure it out (seems like they want you to buy the tones to make money).

Thats it tho...I love the size its perfect, nothing will replace a digital camera or ipod but its nice to have all of those features with you on your phone. I don't like flip phones so I didn't want to wait for the razor v3i with itunes, plus its expensive, I only paid $200 for the slvr. The bluetooth is great it syncs with my car right when i walk near it and programming it was very simple.

In conclusion, I showed my friend the phone two days later he calls me telling me he got the slvr...1

ok first of all,i love this phone.i think its an all in one phone.it has eveeything you could ask for, such as bluetooth, ringtones, wallpapers, quadband, great battey life,mp3 player, thin and attractive, etc.

i think most parts of the phone are good, however i need to point two things.

the battery life is impressive,it can last a few days.but,it needs to be recharged after making to many phone calls, vibration, etc.

also, the memory is bad.i put a micro sd card in my phone.it reset my phone, took FOREVER to load up the phone, but did not erase my contacts.either its my phone,or the capacity is too big.also,it added new feautures.funny
icon_smile.gif

overall,a great phone for ppl who do not like flip phones, but really want something liek a RAZR.

I recently purchased the SLVR, but plan on returning it. This phone may work for most, but I am returning mine for the following reasons:

1. Call volume is too low on phone. Even in a quiet room alone it was difficult for me to hear with the volume maxed at 7. With the kids around, while driving, or in the grocery store conversations were useless. (however, my phone may simply be defective) External speaker was loud and much easier to hear on than internal. I never used the included stereo ear phones for a phone conversation. My bluetooth earpiece worked good but was also quiet.

2. Slow iTunes music transfer. It took between 25 and 30 min. to transfer 70 songs. On my iPod shuffle only takes a few min. 30 min is unacceptable for me. I would expect a new phone, such as the SLVR to have the latest. Why would they not put usb 2.0? I bought this phone mainly because of the iTunes feature. Hopefully, the V3i or ROKR E2 will improve on this. Switching views in iTunes had a short delay. Not a big deal, but felt a little glitchy.

3. No external clock. I have not owned a bar style phone in a while. All the previous ones that I have used, such as SE T610 and Nokia styles, have all had an easy to read clock. When the SLVR's screen is locked it is black. When you hit a button to wake the display a big message opens telling you how to unlock the display. At that point you can see the digital clock but it is small and not easy to view. To me this is important because I carry my phones in my pocket and no longer wear a watch.

4. Reception was poor. My wife had a hard time hearing my voice when I would call her on the SLVR. That could also be a Utah thing. Cingular does not have the greatest reception in these parts.

I paid $200.00. I feel like that was an okay price for all of the things that come with the phone. It includes stereo ear phones. A 3.5mm adaptor for use with other ear phones. USB data cable. 512mb data card.

I don't use the camera feature on phones. The SLVR camera was slow like others I have used. I try to take pictures of the kids. By the time the camera captures the image the kids have moved and all you can see is a blur.

The phone itself is really thin, but feels a little heavy. It is wider and taller than I thought it would have been. I prefer all around smaller phones. The display was nice. If I was to keep the phone I would invest in a screen protector. I never owned a RAZR so I am not sure how the keys compare. I didn't have a problem using the key pad, but I can see it being difficult for those with large hands. The lower left corner of my key pad has a bubble or something in it. It makes a popping noise when lightly pressed. It feels like I am pressing the star button when I actually am not.

I think most users will like this phone. The issues I have listed above may not bother other phone users. As for me, I am going to return mine and wait to spend my money on a future iTunes phone.

I have this phone for 3 weeks now and this is the most satisfied I've been with a Moto phone... No more lag with the software... I been through 2 RAZRs and a A630 this past year... I told myself the SLVR would be the last Moto phone I would try... so far it hasnt disappoined... as for the ringtones, you need a separate software with Motorola and through that, "crop" a section of the song you want as a ringtone...

I really really love this phone. but i dont think its worth the risk. right now cingular doesnt offer insurance for this phone. Most people wouldnt buy a phone this expensive without insurance and thats what happened to me. The cingular person asked if i wanted insurance and i said yes. Well my boyfriend broke the phone and when i called to talk to cingular about it they told me insurance wasnt offered. They did say they were sorry and would send me a new one for 60.00 (insurance price) but it was never sent. What i'm going to try to do is wait until a few months after insurance is offered and then call it back in since they don't have it on record obviously. i wouldnt suggest anyone buy this phone until cingular starts to offer insurance for it, however, with other people in the past i know their insurance has been great.

back to the phone, its great! i never loved a phone this much. at first i didn't know if i'd like it since i had never owned a motorola before but it was awesome. i would suggest getting maybe a silicone cover for it and a pda screen protector (you'll have to cut it out) but that goes a long way to help peserve the phone.

There are a few tricky ways of getting ringtones off your pc onto your mobile phone. The best way that I have found is using existing mp3. files on your hard drive. There is a program on the web you can use to minimize the song length so you don't kill your phones memory. The program I use is ringjone. You will need to unzip the zip file in order to use the program 1st. The rest of the process is rather self explanitory . You will just need to hook your mobile phone to your Usb port , then drag your new saved ringtone to your phones external memory (which it will do automatically) by using "My Explorer or My Computer" . Open the file folder named "mobile" and then click on your ringjone clip from your Explorer's music storage then just drag it into the mobile ringtone folder.
Note: After this process you will have to move your ringtone that you just uploaded to the "phone storage" from "external sim storage" and then you should be golden!

i'm not super picky when it comes to phones but i like my slvr. i like that it has itunes/camera/video in one. it's perfect for me. haha. and i like the fact that it's easy to carry because it's thin. it has bluetooth which is convenient if i want to transfer a picture or video to another bluetooth phone. if you're fashion/feature conscious, this is for you. but if you're more simplistic and just care that your phone works, don't buy it. the only issue i have with it is that my yahoo messenger won't let me sign in. but i just wanted to try it for experimental purposes since i don't use IM anymore. if anyone would like to help me fix that problem, i'd appreciate it because i want it to work in case i do want to use it.

I just got this phone. I really am excited about the Itunes feature. Its Extremely slow!!! It also hangs my pc. It works but you have to have patience to use it. The play back however is awesome! Just like an Ipod!! Also why did they not put in USB2.0! I don't get it. That seems crazy! The whole 100 song thing does not bother me. I use it mainly for podcasts and change out tracks frequently.

And, according to Specs the V3i does not have USB2.0 either!! Come on Motorola!!

I have phone tools and it works well. However when you just plug in your phone to your PC and "browse" it in MY COMPUTER on XP, It shows folders but nothing in them...I am confused.

I have owned a V400 before so I am already familiar with the Moto interface. Easy to use.

I give it 3 out of 5. Good design. Just lacking USB2.0 support sticks out like a sore thumb.

at first it was just a fad for me until i finally got one.. the sleek design, a crisp look and a charming chromy smooth finish taste my senses. as a music lover i defenitely love it, i can't even wait to try it even on my way home after i bought it.. and sadly as of my excitement it slept out of my hand en threw out the window of my car and crushed into pieces as it hit the asphalt and run over by the truck...BOOM its over! my $200 just flew instantly out of my hand.. how traumatic isn't it??
