This phone was very good when I first bought it a year ago. You have to replace the battery about every 7 months because it won't hold a charge very long, and now the speakers and ear part is failing with the volume all the way up I can hardly hear anyone. The speakerphone is made now so it keeps breaking up and they can hardly hear me. It was glamorous at first but now it is just a peice of junk. Have the static problem and the white screen problem it randomly does it and takes a few seconds to reload itself which sucks when you texting...WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

if you're like me, a motorola die hard, you'll love this phone as much as
i did when i saw it. it resembled my old v60 which i loved in very much the
same way... on a cosmetic level at first, with its silvery finish and sleek
space-aged lines and curves, then after a while of usage,
i realized that it's functionality was brilliant. as a matter of fact,
my first comment was "this looks as if someone took
a v60 and loaded it up with everything it needed to be called new and cutting edge,
including a face lift!" it basically has the same simple interface that we v60ers
love, spiced up with some jazzy animation.
i was thinking about getting the samsung, but after holding the two flips in my hand,
i felt more at home with the motorola. it felt sturdy in comparison and who could
beat that sharp colour display.
a much welcomed feature was the antenna which is shorter than the v60.
makes it less fragile in a pocket. it also looks more appropriate for a phone that
size. i must admit, if you look at a v60 carefully, it really looks a bit deformed around
that part.
I wasn't too thrilled about having the camera, that is until i took it home and began snapping shots of everything and trying different pics as wallpaper.
the camera is great as long as the lighting is good. and the zoom is cool.
it captured some very sharp images.
as usual, reception is excellent. i live in trinidad and tobago where people always
complain about droping calls and no signal messages due to the hilly landscape.
i'm not one of the regulars in that department,
and i don't think i will be joining the group soon
with my recent purchase.
i'd tell anyone to buy this phone with their eyes closed.

Hi there, I have purchased the V400 about a year and a half ago. It is very good loking phone and it also works wery well. Hell, I even throw it twice and it still works. I am in Canada and use FIDO probably the best service for my area, friend has a diffrent provider gets no signal, in the city. I get service all the time and I can here well and people can hear me. The only thing that happens sometimes is that while charging my display doesnt power down. Result is , probably longer charge time. Over all I like it and wouldnt change. Sincerly Mike.

I bought my v400 a week ago. I had the infamous v60 and I have to say the v400 is like the v60 on steroids. I love it. I would say that Motorola makes about the best phones on the market right now. My girlfriend bought the LG 1200 and I am so glad that I got the motorola. Reception is amazing. I didnt have the greatest reception with my v60 but since I bought the v400 I have 100% reception all the time. The motorola is a little bit heavier then other cingular phones but I actually like that. It makes me feel like I am holding a phone instead of a plastic toy. Functionality of the OS is the same as the v60 which is great. The only drawbacks to this phone and this is not a biggie but using the speakerphone. It requires you to open the phone, place your call once your call is connected you have to hit a button to turn on the speakerphone then you can close and talk with the speakerphone. When you want to end your call you must open the phone and end your call normally. However the speakerphone is great I was about 6 feet from my phone and my girlfriend could hear me clear as day. If you are in the market for a phone. I would say buy the Motorola v400.

I have owned the V400 for a week now and I have to agree with the previous post with the lack of installed ring tones. There is not even a standard ring installed. For the amount of money that the phone can cost, it should have at least a standard ring.
The other thing that I am not happy with, is the speaker for the ringer and speakerphone. Depending on the ring chossen or the volume of the person on the phone, the speaker can sound rather tiney, almost like it is busted. My first phone I returned because of it, and found that the new phone sounds as poorly as the first one.
Also the phonebook is a bit clunky. It does not have the option to program all numbers for a person under one name, instead you will have 2, 3 or 4 entires(pager, cell, home, work, etc..) listed for one person. That can make scrolling for a persons name a bit tiring and cumbersome.
Other then that, the camera is great, the best that I have seen and the phone performs better than my Samsung for Sprint that I was replacing.
Conclusion:
There are some tweaks that need to be worked out, but all in all, it is a good phone and I do recommend it.

Like xequar and stephanie_52_, I have had similar issues with the ear speaker. My first V400 worked for a few months, then I would hear only static whenever I tried to use the phone. The static was sporadic but once it started, I would have to end the call completely because it's not the slight crackling you would remember from analog landline phones in days gone by.
Since the phone was under warranty, I had Cingular ship me a new phone, which, out of the box, did not work. Same static problem. I am now on my third phone, which has worked for about 4 - 4.5 months. Now, the ear speaker seems to have given way. It works sometimes--not often enough. I have had Motorola phones before (with Nextel) with no issues, ever, but this V400 makes me wonder...Hate to admit it, but am glad to see I'm not the only one with these issues. Can't wait to trade this in!

I love this phone, the best feature for me is Mp3 ring tones. I own a data cable and I upload ringtones, pictures all the time, it works great. I have owned the phone for just under a year now. The ringer works good, I've had pretty much no problems. Until about 2 days ago, I opened the phone and the screen was white, i reseted it, no change. My screen went out on me, the phone otherwise works great. Yes I have dropped it many times, in the snow, rain, everything. I knew someday something would brake, it took about a year. I am getting a brand new phone rush delevered to me right now, so its ok. I do recommend this phone, for the price its great, lots of features, minor problems

My thoughts on the V400:
I originally got this phone as the insurance replacement when I lost my V600. This was during the time period when Cingular had discontinued the V600, but had not yet released the 551. Now I see why they were so willing to part with these craptacular phones and are totally unwilling to acknowledge that I ever owned a V600.
The phone operationally is very similar to the V600, except for the lack of bluetooth. It gets great reception, probably the best I've seen. I very much enjoy the MP3 ringtones and use the camera all the time. The large display with 65k colors is vibrant and easy to see. Functionally, I love this phone, although I do miss the changeable faceplate option that I had with the 600.
Now the downside and qualification for my initial statements. These phones, although a pleasure to use, are of horrible quality. I am now on V400 #2, and that'll probably be #3 in a month or two. My first one worked for a couple of months, and then the ringer speaker quit working. Since this is my only phone, if I can't hear it ring, I miss the call. You can see the problem. The one I currently have rings louder than any other phone I've used, but after about a month, the ear speaker (where you listen to the call) now works only sporatically. Indeed, I have had a couple of occasions where, during a call, the ear speaker would actually cut out, only to be restored by a quick tap to the steering wheel of my car (or other suitably hard surface). Honestly, I know several people with this phone, and not one of them is still on #1 (as in, they have all had to get replacements because of quality problems).
The summary to above: I love the phones' features and operation. However, the very poor quality greatly disappoint.

I've had a Motorola v400 since the middle of November and this is now my second one. My previous phone all of a sudden one day allowed me to hear callers but callers couldn't hear me. This seriously irritated me since I only had the phone for a few months. The v400 often has dropped calls and the 'call failed' appears more than I care to see it. Yes, it's a cute phone that attracted me mostly with it's camera and speakerphone, I often can't hear my phone ring if the speaker is turned towards my body rather than outward. On a couple of occasions, I had to turn the phone off by taking out the battery because the phone would freeze, if that's the right term for it. I wouldn't recommend this phone.

OK this is my first Motorola, former Nokia user on Cingular here in the south. So far I have enjoyed this new V400. So far the items that I'm less than thrilled with are, limited number of installed ringtones, it records all calls as 11 digits and the manual is terrible. Other than that I find this phone very reliable for service in my area. After using it for a week or so now, I have found getting around the menu easy once you set up the shortcuts, well worth it to me. THe speaker phone works well in a car when the radio is turned down and there is not a lot of road noise.
I would at this pint recomment this phone.

I have to admitt, when I originally purchased the v400, I considered it an amazing phone, not to mention I have always loved motorola phones. Unfortunately, after about 2 months, the side buttons on the phone stopped working. I did not blame this completely on motorola though because I had purchased the phone on ebay unlocked, so it might have had something to do with that.
I returned that phone to cingular and they sent me a new one... this one worked great for about 1 month, and then the internal speaker started getting rediculously quiet, to the point where I could not understand what the other person was saying, even in an extremely quiet enviroment. I have lived with this problem for almost 4 months now, mainly by using the speakerphone as my primary speaker.
The only beefs i have against this phone minus the hardware problems that I experienced, was the ever-so-annoying extremely slow response time when pressing buttons. I am an unfortunately impatient person, so this annoyed me beyond measure. Besides those few things, phone was great.

Have just gotten this phone. Was gonna get Sony Ericsson, but the Cingular sales rep recommended this one for its great reception. Had one like that himself. For me this is important as I live in a dead area in which my old phone did not pick up the sygnal at all (my old phone was Samsung N105 with T-Mobile).
My first impressions of this phone are these. I love all the bells and whistles. The screen is great and I like the phone's design. The reception is very good and it actually works at my house - nobody's esle's phone with any service works there.
Here are two issues I have with this phone after just one day of using it. Compared to Samsung N105, my old phone, this one is a bit bulky. One of the things I absolutely loved about my old phone is that it fit into any pocket and I barely noticed having it. Sometimes I wasn't ecen sure which pocket I out it in. It was so thin and light. This Motorola phone, while certainly not large is much thicker than my old one and weighs more.
Also, maybe I'm not used to using this kind of a flip phone yet, but so far I find the position you have to hold it in while talking very awkward. I have to twist my wrist backwards to make sure my mouth is close to the microphone. Even after a 5 min call my wrist starts to hurt. If I hold it in a comfy position for the wrist my mouth is too far from the mic.
So these are the pros and cons. Since I have a 2-week trial period I'm not yet sure I'll keep it because of the latter two reasons.

This phone makes me sick! I dislike this phone very much! I've been with cigular for over a year and I've had THREE of the same freakin crappy phones! The Motorola V400 is awful. The first time it got to where I coudn't hear ANYTHING! The replacement phone wouldn't answer calls when I opened the phone or wouldn't aknowledge the fact that it was open. Then the third phone the antenna didn't fit in it, it was cross threaded and the number one didn't work that great. No, I didn't drop it or step on it or anythink like that. It just sucked! Anyway, they FINALLY decieded that it would be a good idea to give me a different phone, thank the lord! So, I'll let you ALL know how well that new Motorola V551 works. Have a wonderful day!

Phone is the best yet from motorola.
I disagree with all these posts. I must have got a great phone because I have had no problems. My speaker is perfectly loud and I have data cable that easily transfers files to it. I love this phone. The only thing I hate about the phone is when you try to set it up, or do things, it does not respond for a second or two or says loading. But thats rarely. Great Phone. Two Thumbs Up.

ok so i have had this phone for about 2 yrs and have a few problems w/ it
my biggest problem was that the earpiece volume would not even work at time and then i would have to turn my phone to speaker just to hear the person i was talking to...this was very annoying expecially when i was in a public place....i have had 2 of these phones because when the first one developed this problem i was still in a 1 year warrenty the second one also had this problem so i dont think it was just a defective phone
the only other trouble i really had with this phone is that when i open my phone ocassionaly the screen will go blank...but the quick and easy way to fix this is to close an reopen.
besides those 2 problems this phone is perfect! the camera is amazing all my friends are jealous of them ( i got a pic of the disney castle in broad daylight and it looks as if a professional took it) i love the features
when i get a new phone i think im gonna have to stick w/ moterola cause i absolutly love how they set up there phones

I got a V400 to replace my GOOD old Ericson. This phone was great for about two weeks. I don't remember the details but soon after that I had to call customer service and do some resets which kept me going for a while.
For the last few weeks I do not get good charges or consistent battery life, my service sucks big time. I have at least 5 times more "call failed" instances than calls going through. I loose calls in the middle of town and even on the interstate.
I had none of these problems with my old $20 phone.
I'm think I am going to use a hammer on this phone and try again. Most everyone who has this model has few complaints...one or two peole I know are having my problems.
One major problem is the local help in Hammond, La. Hit or miss. You wait like cattle and get a moron to help you half the time.
Thats another post.
Would I get this phone again...no. If you aren't having problems now, the potential is great that you will.

Im writing this review to say that my v400 motorola was very good. I hardly ever had problems with service yet there were a few times that it irritated me. I don't have any thoughts on the ring tones because it was always on vibrate. The battery life was awesome. But I have one major problem with it, its not water proof. I was out at the lake (with full towers) and my fishing pole went crazy, I went to grab it and next thing i know my phone fell off my belt, hit the rock i was on, bounced (turning on the blue led display) slid down the cliff 5 feet and into the water and i just watched it sink outta site. Untill that point i didnt have to many problems with it though. I reccomend getting this model but dont submerge it in water.

Overall the phone has been outstanding, My problem is that I DID NOT want a camera phone and that was all that the cingular store stocked. I was fed up with the problems that I had with my old nokkia phones so was happy to get a motorola. MY problem is that I work in a courthouse and (you guessed it) Camera phones are NOT allowed in a courthouse. so now I'm essentially stuck with a phone that I can't take to work. I understand that now-a-days everyone wants all of the bells and whistles. I believe that there are a few of us out there that just want the plain 'ole black box when it comes to a telephone.

I got this phone a month a go and had to return it twice already. After 2weeks LCD went out on me got a new one after visiting 3 different Cingular store cuz they didn't have the damn junk in stock. Finally got a new one and after 2weeks phone won't turn on at all. Called Cingular to replace the phone and they tell me I can't even pick up a new one from the store. Now with the new policy, I have to send it in and give them my credit card number as a collateral incase if the problem of the phone is at my fault. OMG!!! I only had it for 2weeks and never dropped the damn junk. I asked if I could get any other phone which will actually last for awhile and they tell me I have to pay extra for that! I'm mad!!! they are charging me monthly usage for a phone I cant even use!!! I loved T-Mobile but I was dumped with this cuz my cousin activated this phone with my name and took off to over seas. I will never ever recommend Cingular nor Motorola V400 to anybody in my life.

I work for Cinglar Wireless, let me tell you something about this phone it's a 10 out of 10! Excellent product that Motorola came out with. Antenna wise on reception is better than other Motorola phones! The audio is amazing and the price now is 199.99 with 2 year contract and a 100.00 mail in rebate! You can't beat the price on this phone
