The NEC 525 builds upon the success of the 515, the first handset in the 500 series, by adding a camera to the 515's suite of high-end features. The 525's 100K, 2X digital zoom embedded camera enables users to capture sharp pictures, which can be viewed on the large 65K color display. The distinct 4K-color external-LCD screen enables consumers to use caller ID to view color pictures of all their friends, family and co-workers.

I was kinda surprised by the many negative aspects mentioned about the 525. Like every phone I or my friends have owned, there are some quirks. One is you cannot hear if you are at the club dancing or there is a lot of noise around. Two, Since Cingular took over AT & T (I like neither service) I've experienced more cut offs - even with full bars. I do love the camera quality and the text messaging and emails are fine (send by SMS) especially if you have attachments. Battery time was ok - better than some, worst than others.
I just purchased my 2nd one because after three years the other fried. That's probably not normal so I'll wait to see how the life of this one does. I researched others before I decided to stick with the 525 to save my SIM card info and convienance. They don't make them anymore so I'll be on EBay when this one goes.

Six months ago I decided to get a GSM phone. The NEC 525 had all the bells and whistles I could ever want and it looked nice. I baught two for the family plan. Soon after the 30 day return window, I realized how horrible this phone is. I've had multiple software issues:
-Phone turning on when charging or charger removed
-Phone resetting mid-call
-Phone not being able to connect and resetting itself.
It has a poor speaker so it is nearly impossible to hear with any surrounding noise. The headphone jack does not sit right on the phone, which causes for poor connection of the headset (multiple headsets used). Worse of all, it has the worse reception I've ever seen (may be a carrier issue but not completely). It will show 4 bars (full) reception and cut the call within 2 minutes - showing no reception at all (then often resetting). I've been through 3 of these phones, all of them having the same issues. To top it off, my service provider won't give me a different phone (because they know how horrible it is). So, save your $250 and get something different!!!! I wish I had
